Chandler Halderson was the perfect son. In the summer of 2021 he was about to graduate college and begin a career with SpaceX. However, things weren't exactly as they appeared. When Chandler's parents went missing in July 2021 his lies began to unravel and the truth that Chandler had been hiding came to light.

How big of an evil monster do you have to be to kill and dismember your own parents? Imagine what he would have done eventually to that girlfriend a few years down the road. She really dodged a bullet, literally and figuratively.

I thought the same thing about his girl friend until I saw the messages and jail house phone calls after he was arrested. Something just doesn't seem right. I don't believe she was in on the murders but I just can't understand how and why she seemed so ... I don't know, unconcerned and still so cozy with him. There doesn't seem to be any doubt that he did it but she still called him "hubby", how much she missed him. Just odd.

We had just finished recording everything on Tuesday when we saw the 'That Chapter' video come out, which was gutting. We thought about scrapping the video altogether at that point but decided to push on through the editing and get out version of the story out there. Mike has a great team behind him so it wasn’t a surprise that they were able to cover this case so quickly. Needless to say, it’s a lesson learned and we’ll strive to have our content first out going forward (or maybe we just have to get better!). Krista was a darling, one of those sweet people who loves everyone and dotes on her family unconditionally. Chandler killed his father in a rage and inexplicably killed his mother whom he loved because he had to but the diabolical actions he then took are unforgivable. Perhaps if he had told the truth instead of lying about everything, he wouldn't have gotten Life Without Parole.

This kind of story makes you really want to fact check everything your kid is doing, and really be hands on very early in the game. If you are giving them money you should be all up in their business. There are so many murders that have something to do with money. And really, that's what this story boils down to as well. True, his lies were going to be exposed but at the end of the day is wasn't about that. The lies were going to be exposed by the people who were financially supporting him. It was their money he would no longer be getting, and possibly his home, car, food, and other benefits. Game over for him. Really he was a useless waste of oxygen on this planet.

I saw an interview with one of his attorneys. Their goal is to hold the state to their burden of proving a crime NOT their role proving a person’s innocence. Our judicial system only aims to show if one is “not guilty of the crime” of which they are accused. She was very thoughtful and I could see her passion for her role in the judicial process. It’s not for the faint of heart, but it is for the principled person who wants to ensure that the correct person is held accountable. The state proved their case very well. Why, why, why? Kat and her mom was supportive of him (well his lies)..I’m sure they would have helped him navigate life if his parents wouldn’t support him changing courses or whatever he had going on. He just lied to everyone around him. He reminds me of that guy who killed his mom, dad and brother because his dad cut him off from funds that he was loaning and stealing from his dad to give to an East European lady that he was so in love with.

Too many of these shows just show the person telling the story the entire time and no footage is shown. Also I liked hearing about the lives of the parents it makes you feel more of a connection and realize these were good parents and wonderful people. A gut wrenching story. To have your child kill you and see it coming. The dad must have seen his son with the gun as he’s shot in the stomach at close range in the afternoon. That poor mother seeing the nightmare. Probably begged for her life. All he cared about was getting caught. So disturbing. Prayers to their other child that has lost his entire family.

And imagine then that maybe a phone call to your mom and dad might be the most comforting thing you could find in the world... But then you don't have them to call you, or help you because you killed them. Friends vanish fast when you go to jail, FAMILY IS ALL YOU HAVE. Take care of family, always say you are sorry and always forgive family. I can't imagine the hell that would go on in your head after killing the only people that would support you no matter what you did.. I am always baffled that anyone in today's world who has access to a television would be stupid enough to pretend that they don't know what their rights are, even if the cops did not read their Miranda rights to them immediately before questioning them. I have never been questioned by police and I have never been Mirandized, but I probably could quote them almost verbatim from all the times I have seen them being read on TV, both on fictional and nonfictional programs. Also, it is rather lame for Chandler to claim a brain injury in a fall that never actually happened. The neck brace he wore because he also hurt his neck (in the fall that never actually happened) magically disappeared when he no longer needed to put up the front for the sake of his parents...because they are now dead! The truth is that he is a pathological liar who had been feeding people lies about the degree he was getting, about the job he had and about the job he was getting ready to take a short time in the future. He didn't go to school, he didn't work, and there was no dream job lined up for a month or so in the future. His dad was going to take him to the school to talk face to face with the administration there so his lies were getting ready to be exposed. He murdered his parents so those lies would never surface. He deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison. I bet Chandler got a bit sick when that one lady said the police had already been by her house and had picked up a copy of what the Ring doorbell camera had captured. A lot of people, including me, sort of wanted Chandler to take the stand to TRY to explain why he did what he did, but I think one of his lawyers brought up a very valid point when she asked, "Why should we put him on the stand? He's such a liar no one would believe a word he said anyway." HIS lawyer said that! Of course, I guess we already know WHY he murdered them. He did it because his lies were about to be exposed.

Bizarre, but maybe not as bizarre as it seems at first blush. I actually agree with the defense that the impending meeting wasn't his ultimate motive. He was just profoundly degenerate. He didn't just kill them. The way he did it...and the things he did with their remains... Sickening, but also sobering. On a related note, parents can be terrifyingly clueless. One of my college roommates was into HORRIFIC stuff with HORRIFIC guys. It eventually caught up with her. But her mother refused to acknowledge the full truth even afterward. Bart was clearly suspicious about college attendance, judging from that phone call, but neither he nor his wife seemed to have a clue how dark their kid's soul really was. How? After so much time? People tell themselves so many lies these days, minimize so many red flags as no big deal. It's tragic how much it can cost them.

I love the phrase you used...at first blush. Re parents in denial. My friend was a high school headmaster. Overseeing a 1,000 plus kids. One lad did something really awful. He admitted it. Parents called in. They were 100% convinced their son had been coerced into making a false confession. Even their son couldn't convince them he had done whatever it was. Another friend works with kids who have been expelled. A few are violent. I assumed the kids were from poor, unstable backgrounds. No...they are the 'golden kids' of professional parents. E.g.
