The dispatcher tells the cop "she sees the two of them tied up in the basement, we know at least one of them is dead," and the cop's immediate response is, "sounds like suicide?" What in the actual f_ck? How do these clowns get this despicably incompetent?
Ha ha ha! I said the same thing! He might’ve wished it was suicide so he didn’t have to do so much paperwork. Did you think the 911 operator sounded perturbed and not empathetic?
Imagine having to be reliant firstly on that belligerent dispatcher, then those inept police, and finally that dodgy judge for dealing with a crime involving your child. I feel very sorry for that mother.
Exactly! Police - Prosecutor - Judge. It's a well known and well-oiled machine. If they want to prosecute you, you're done for. Especially if you're not guilty. The system is so corrupt that it's literally unfixable.
Police hands are tied because the can't go barging into houses without probable cause. A mother who insists they break into a house isn't probable cause. And the judge is right about the cigarette. There's not enough evidence to find someone guilty on 1 cigarette butt. It doesn't tell you when and how it got there. Any respectable judge would make the same decision.
@@wormhole331 If the homeowner gives permission to make entry, that is enough probable cause to find a means to do so. Alexa also said that the second, floor was ransacked. That poor mom was frantic. Why leave to the father to make that horrific scene?

Fired for what ? Obviously you didn't hear the entire thing Her job is to take and relay the information given and that was done The cop or cops who arrived can't break into a home with no good reason It was the son's father who busted the door and found the bodies ? You're letting emotions cloud you
The police concluded Johnny probably knew them. After the girl heard him say on the phone, who the f... are you? Brilliant deduction by the detective. LOL
Exactly! I totally agree with you. Coming to that conclusion makes little sense because if you were familiar with the person pushing their way into the home unannounced you’d say something like, “Hey John Doe, what are you doing here?” because it makes zero sense to repeatedly ask someone who they are when you already know.
@@mysticobra1 he said both. Bro what are you doing and who the F are you? I think they were ambushed at the front door and he knew one of them but not the other. @@sandygravel39 - I believe they have the wrong guy sitting in prison for this as well. I haven’t done a lot of research into this case but that girl Tiffany knows more then she’s letting on. It’s reported that Johnny was suppose to pick up Tiffany and the 17 year old Zack to hang out back at the house, after Lisa was done with work? So Johnny picked up Lisa after her shift and they went back to the house instead. Why did Tiffany and Zack need a ride over there to hang out, when Tiffany clearly had a vehicle to drive around in and go to the residence anyways? Something is off with that story. Sounds like incompetent detective work as well.
@@sandygravel39 - After watching all the interrogations, it’s clear that this story involves one too many unsavory people. Sadly such a handsome young man and beautiful young girl were victims and had their lives taken far too young.

I'm sorry but that 911 operator should be reprimanded. You don't talk to somebody, that's in a panic, in that manner. You know you don't tell them to not talk to you that way or to not yell at you, and tell them to calm down in a harsh way. you're supposed to be calming and soothing and help these people. Being rude isn't going to help them through this.
It's not the 911 operators Duty to coddle and console people. It's their job to get as much information as possible, as fast as possible to keep First Responders safe. When people are frantic and screaming the operators have a hard time understanding what's going on and precious time is being wasted. Bad information can get a cop killed so they need to get facts straight. They know why the mother was frantic but it helps no one when screaming at the operator about what happened earlier and not relevant to what's happening In that moment. I thought she sounded a bit rude too but feelings don't matter in an emergency.
@@wormhole331 Basic de-escalation training is contrary to what you are stating. How the hell did a random citizen concerned about her loved ones see more than the police that were sent there to investigate? Police supposedly have training for this while random citizens do not. Absolutely showcases how much police actually don’t care about serving and protecting.

@@mattm8817 It is a sentence that ends with a question mark and desires further explanation so yes, yes it is a real question. Just like the previous sentence in this reply is a statement.
The mother’s call to police was so triggering for me. I’ve recently had to call the police over something far less serious, and they had a similar flippant attitude like the dispatcher in that call. The way she sounded so careless and unhelpful over searching the house would’ve made me blow up like never before. And now two people are dead because of their inaction.
I have seen these full interrogations and heard the multiple 911 calls before, and the rudeness from the dispatchers is astounding and the “detectives” talking to witnesses are outright idiots. Most investigators will let them talk, and ask questions in between. It’s obvious these people have zero strategy in questioning, and the fact that not one witness could even finish a god damn sentence is just ridiculous. Training, who needs it, right? Apparently no one in this town”s law enforcement/dispatch team!!
I hate some of these pathetic emergency call operators sometimes. I’m from the U.K. thank the lord 99 percent they don’t act like that. Is it a requirement in the United States for these idiots to be devoid of all humanity and common sense?
They are suppose to stay calm. Not be belligerent. And talk the caller through the information. I have heard some ridiculous operators in the UK, AU and Canada. I don't think any amount of training can prepare for each individual call.
Also listen to how the cop is looking to cover his ass “suicide sounds like?” The girl on the phone knows they fucked up. She’s like “no… I don’t think so. Sounds more like an abduction or something”
Surprise, surprise: yet another case where law enforcement shows itself to be intensely goddamn incompetent. If his mother was able to peer into the basement through a window-ultimately learning the plight of her son and his girlfriend in the process-why in the FUCK did the officers not bother to do the same? And jesus... the sheer anguish in her voice on that 911 call is heartbreaking. 😔

What a ridiculous verdict! Clearly there was reasonable doubt, what was the jury doing? Were there no appeals since? Additional evidence has been collected but no appeal for a new trial has been filed? I hope the innocence project will take on Sam's case. I don't believe he's done this. That would never be allowed. Conflict of interest. Didn't hear that in the video. Maybe it happened later. Not only conflict of interest but grounds for an appeal.
The cop asked, “ suicide?” Omg!! Ya, NO!! Who ties themselves up and puts a bag over their head to kill themselves? Or who puts a bag over their head and ties them selves up to kill themselves? I also kind of felt the 911 operator where is sounding a little perturbed.
This is not actually unheard of as a method of suicide. Restraining the hands is needed because of the panic response of lack of oxygen will cause most to tear at the bag otherwise. It’s not the most common, but it does happen.
WTAF is wrong with these freaking cops and 911 operator?!? They possibly could have been saved if they would have taken the time to investigate further! These cases like this infuriate me!! It's like the cops are annoyed and can't be bothered.
Doesn't seem to be beyond a reasonable doubt. It is scary to know that people are sent away for life based on verdicts with so little evidence. Unfortunately, the pressure to solve cases incentives bringing weak cases to court.
It's scary the way so many detectives operate by choosing their goddamn suspect, confirmation bias completely building the case from there. Even scarier that the other case was dismissed for “not meeting the burden of proof” but the sole testimony of a jailhouse snitch somehow changed everything; receiving 2+ life terms and even almost death!?! The fact that they see no flaws with jailhouse snitch testimonies is beyond any logical reasoning. Desperate, sketchy, unreliable sources with an overwhelming incentive to completely fabricate a story and be grossly overcompensated. All beneficial to them with absolutely nothing to lose.
Sounds like another case of all the branches of the justice system yawning through their job. I can't believe how so many of them couldn't care less if someone is convicted of a crime they didn't commit as long as they don't have to actually work to find the guilty one. It's nauseating. Not saying I think these particular guys are innocent but the evidence was weak.
Great video! Really like this guy! Your footage, interrogations, pictures, videos that have to do with the crime, are awesome! Thank you for all your hard work!
Funny how they found who’s dna on a cigarette butt yet don’t know who’s dna on the tape and bodies. Seems to me those cigarettes were planted by the real murderer. No smoker just throws cigarette on the floor after putting it out elsewhere it’s either thrown lit so it burns down to the filter or it’s thrown down and stomped on to put out. That butt was oddly placed after being extinguished
I love the way you narrate Kevin. I love your voice even more... You're articulate with a very nice, calming voice. What's not there to love listening to?
Dude, every one of those 911 operators should be ashamed of their attitude. This lady just discovered her son and daughter in law dead in the house she already begged them to check multiple times and she wants to be all snotty with her telling her not to yell at her... Are you kidding me. Drop your pride and do your job with some compassion and understanding. It's not about you, it's about the people you're supposed to be helping.
They weren't married. And the operator can only do so much over the phone. How is she supposed to know where her son is??? She wanna get snappy with someone it needs to be the officer
The fact that alex has been arrested for ARMED ROBBERY and then texts a chick saying something like “fuck with me bitch” “havent you seen the news!? I duct tape and kill mfs” just doesnt sit well with me. I have found noone else that has mentioned this or her? AND she had a motive? Seems odd to me.

I read someone else's comment about how you cover stories that others haven't done, and we have to agree - we know it's probably hard to find those stories. Thanks Kevin... way to go!
Yeah, they killed themselves by tying themselves up and putting plastic bags on their heads. When they already knew someone else had been there. I can't believe that was his first thought. What a joke.😂
How is one person convicted and sent to prison for life and one has his case thrown out when they were charged with the exact same crime and the exact same evidence was used against them both???
If the stupid had gone into the house after the first time they went to the house both kids would probably been found and saved. When someone calls so upset about a missing kid that should have been enough for the cops to get in. Because the cops three times didn’t go in to check the house the kids are dead. If found earlier they might have lived.
Could the Police be more useless and pathetic when checking the premises? who pay those idiots for doing such inefficient lazy duty?... that's a very puzzling story and I can't make up my mind if Sam is really the culprit or if he was "made" the culprit Thanks a lot for this video, your calm and clear narration makes listening very pleasant
Hi Kevin, just a small suggestion. if the volume of the interrogation is low, you might want to match that level. your volume was 2-3 x the interrogations and i needed to go up and down on my volume throughout. I enjoy your content. :)

I can't fathom why the police didn't get a warrant right away and go inside, not just look through windows. It's possible, although not probable, that maybe they could have saved them if on time.
I was accused of having stolen money once and although I knew I was innocent I didn't go mad. It's disbelief at first which then actually turns into some sort of resignation once you understand they already made up their minds. In fact when my boss realized he had made a mistake and apologized to me his first question was how on earth had I kept so calm. So no, this doesn't prove anything.

The one where the social worker was begging and pleading that the dad just grabbed the kids in the house and won’t answer(ultimately killing his two young sons and himself and the tragic case of the female delivery driver dying in a flash flood and the disgusting operator putting phone down and telling her to calm down. Guilty off a cigarette butt that happened to match two suspected dudes already in the system? No matching DNA on the duct tape, hoodie, or anywhere else to match them though? The fact the jury found one guilty but not the other from a jailhouse confession is nuts even though the circumstantial evidence was the same.
Gotta love when the authorities have to be forced to do thier damned jobs. And that detective's skills are concerning. He is told two people are found bound and his first thought is suicide? Is that willful incompetence or simply astounding lack of ability?
@@bruggeman672 oh I am educated in that and that's exactly why what happened happened that way. There was no proof of imminent danger. A screaming mother that wants to go in a house isn't proof of such. Imminent danger would be if the cops could see inside and see people tied up or hear people screaming for help inside the house they would definitely go in. A quiet house with no signs of intrusion isn't probable cause to go in. And investigate what? They did come and they investigated but LEGALLY they can go inside to investigate. After the father broke in and saw the bodies that gave the police LEGAL authority to enter. If I called the cops and said I think something bad is happening in your house they can't just go breaking down your door. And if they did then you would be complaining how the police just go barging into people's houses without probable cause. This is all written down in law books so not sure why you're arguing against it. Educate yourself.
The 911 dispatcher and the guy from the sheriff's dept are awful. The guy really thought being tied up in a basement with bags over their head sounded like suicide?! Ridiculous.
Tiffany did a great job describing what she heard on the phone. She even knows the rules of the house wherein she realized there was something wrong when she went to the Straub's house.
I was always unsure about this case. They have no fingerprints on the duct tape and jailhouse snitches are not reliable and the foreign currency was online. They had one cig with 2 DNA that could have been there. I think the LE as usual didn't preserve evidence on the bodies duct tape and the guy with the other DNA testifies against his friend. I watch alot of true crime and there is reasonable doubt. I want to know what the forensics were on the bodies. This one has always baffled me. It pisses me off that things come out after the fact as far as the foreign currency being online and that's what convicted him. The dude was going to school trying to get right and bam. A lot of he said she said and the young man murdered owed $$$ sounds like drugs to me. I know my opinion probably isn't popular but that's what I see and LE likes to shut cases down when under pressure. They need to test the evidence on the bodies asap bc evidence has a way of disappearing when LE doesn't do their due diligence. How tf that evidence wasn't tested boggles my mind. This guy's finger prints weren't in that house.
Well I guess after all these years the bodies will not yield any evidence anymore. But I totally agree with you. Sham conviction. Cigarette was planted if you ask me.
I'm still halfway through the video but the friend didn't want to call the police because she knew that there were drugs in the house. You know... Dealing or doing drugs is a dangerous business.
I had to call 911 recently. I was sobbing my eyes out. Im. Never. Emotional. Not like that. Not since I was a child. And that woman was such an angel on the phone. I’ll remember it all my life. I’m so happy I didn’t encounter a monster 911 operator like this.
This case is aggravating (mom calling for help repeatedly while being treated dismissively) and baffling (they convict a guy whose DNA was not on the tape or bags used to restrain and murder two people and have yet to find the people whose DNA is present. I hope one day the ones who did this gave justice.
@@martinashaughnessy1800 so easy to create reasonable doubt by just tossing a few around. would drive a jury crazy and guarantee a hung jury every time you'd think.
Truly extraordinary that they did so little when the mother was so convinced and adamant there was something wrong. And heartbreaking to think if they had, it may have saved their lives.....
I hate cases like this one, so how much more sickened the family and friends of the victims must feel over such an outcome, whether the police/prosecutor botched it, or whether the accused were not the true villains matters not, there are no winners in a case like this... thanks for another humdinger there matey. Very interesting case! I don't believe the convicted man is guilty! The police seized upon his DNA match, corroborated by an unreliable informant. Done and done! May the victims rest peacefully and their family and friends find comfort! ❤
I feel like the police focused on the DNA from the Cigarette butt because someone messed up somewhere with the DNA on the tape and that could easily be argued against in court. After watching several of the witness interrogations and everything, I have come to believe that this case goes beyond reasonable doubt. I know that is not what anyone wants to hear in a murder like this. But the police messed this case up from the beginning and making too many deals with juvenile and young adult offenders. It all screams a scam to me and every single one of these officers should be audited. I think that there are two things that helped convict this man and it had nothing to do with reasonable doubt, justice, or the truth. This guy was a narcissist and he had a bad criminal history. This guy oozes narcissistic behaviors and that comes across as a bad person in court. I am sure the prosecutors played to that and along with his criminal wrap sheet, he wasn’t looking good in front of anyone even if he was innocent. But it bothers me on a whole because this case was definitely not strong enough to stand on its own. I don’t know how well this guy’s defense lawyer was, but he should have been able to beat this easily. I think it was a matter of pure bias. He doesn’t carry himself the right way in court. His defense team should have better prepared him. Also, I think that the mother was right on target. I really do thing it was a setup. Believe me, if this was a robbery, there are electronics and other items that could have been taken as well. I think this was a revenge killing. A robbery would have just executed them point blank. These people not only knew them, but premeditated the murder. I think that whole scenario where Tiffany Williams talks about her and Zack taking a tour of the house just a week before these murders was no coincidence. Watch her interview, it made no sense. She shied away from saying Johnny sounded scared on the phone. When the mother called 911, she recounts that TW told her that her son had dropped the phone to the ground. So how did TW just hear this conversation where Johnny just sounds angry and not scared and he is just going to hang up the phone. I believe she told the mother the right version the first time and I believe the mother was on point about it seeming like she was part of the setup and how it took her 2 hours to say anything. She’s supposedly getting a ride from Johnny that night, but arrives at his house in a car? Doesn’t make any sense and I think that momma was spot on. These investigators just rushed this investigation. This Sam guy could very well have been a part of it. I think it was many of them involved. They didn’t shoot their victims because the sound of bullets would draw suspicion. They wanted time to search the house. Another thing, when the mother does talk to 911, she relates that TW told her the house looked ransacked. But the police are looking through the same window as she had to of and didn’t see anything. How would TW known the house was ransacked? And she was concerned about Johnny and was calling him so many times, but took her time getting there. Hours later. I think they all thought this was a huge payout and I bet they all were involved. But even still, as a Criminal Justice expert; I don’t feel this case had enough to win a guilty verdict. As for the jailhouse snitch. Completely unreliable. And how many times have we seen the police put someone in a cell with someone on purpose so they can build the case. They put someone in this guy’s cell on purpose because they knew there wasn’t enough evidence. And they probably fed that person information because bad cops sometimes think it is better to have a burglar get off than a murderer. The lesser of the two evils. Don’t think for one second cops aren’t dirty and don’t plant evidence and don’t tip snitches for the conviction. When it is all said and done, Sam may not have known the victims and may not have been in the house. If I was premeditating a murder, not hard to get a cigarette butt off of someone who cheated on one of my friends, as you will find out this Sam character cheated with many women. But the setup is too easy. You have to ask yourself, who would be dumb enough to leave a cigarette at the murder scene right by the door? And don’t think for one second that I think this is a good guy. No, he is crap and I think that is what makes setting him up so easy; if that was what happened. But dumb police officers think we are still stuck in the 90’s and no one has ever heard of DNA but them. We all know what DNA is now. Criminals are getting smarter and more difficult to catch. It’s only those crime of passions, or crimes where one doesn’t care about the outcome; that causes one not to use any common sense. Sheesh!
Other than the actual victims, the parents of the deceased are also victims. They won’t get any justice here. I hope they’ll find some peace somehow, but it likely won’t be from anything dealing with this case. I feel bad especially for the mom. She knew something bad was going on and no one took her seriously. I wish that guy had broken down the door sooner.
Agreed. The mom was spot on 🎯 and this should’ve been an easy case for legit cops who actually give an ounce of f^^ks. I watched another video where the cops were called to do a welfare check at a trailer park and went above and beyond speaking to neighbors when no one answered the door. These cops didn’t let up on locating the woman in question and making sure she was ok. These types of officers are few and far between sadly. The mother was caught between a rock and hard place of not breaking the law and going through the proper processes based on the assumption the cops are gonna do their part. This department needs to be investigated and audited by a 3rd party. They’re the worst in this because they failed to protect and act in timely manner when that’s what their paid for and we are expected to abide by rules based on that premise. Im surprised no officers or departments were charged, terminated or sued. personally I would’ve entered the home with a weapon looking for my son or a perpetrator, the adrenaline and rage would’ve made all concern for laws go out the window. And recorded driving up to the home and tucked my phone in my pants to record as I search the home

Another masterpiece Kevin!! You really do have one of the best true crime channels on YT!! I was just confused by something that you said. At 12:40 you said "their Rottweiler pup" and showed a pic. I used to breed Rottweilers for the California K9 Academy and was also a dog trainer that worked with many breeds but that pic you showed didn't look like a Rottweiler pup. It looked like a pit bull mix or something along those lines from what I could see. It just stood out to me personally because of my history with Rottweilers
Hey Ken! Yeah a few people have commented on the puppy likely being a Pit Bull instead of a Rottweiler just from the photos.
