The Perfect Starter Quail Cage | Deep Litter Bedding | Raising Japanese Quail | Guten Yardening
There are ways around expensive quail cages. As new urban quail farmers, we have found one solution that provides inexpensive quail cages is to easily transform dog cages into quail cages.
The dog cages we use come from thrift store shopping, and are therefore inexpensive ($10-$15 each), and the additional supplies of terrace board and pine shavings are also relatively inexpensive.
Using the deep bedding method or deep litter method for the bedding, we are able to raise the quail in a method that doesn't involve wire under their feet.
We are also able to collect a great deal of quail waste for compost.
A cage like this takes about 20 minutes to setup, and there is plenty of room inside for the coturnix quail, or whatever type of quail you might be growing.
If you are trying to become more self sufficient, and you want to add quail eggs or quail meat to the list of what you are doing to grow your own food, we think this is an effective and budget quail cage setup that you can try. And so far, we have been very pleased deep litter bedding quail.
