A sign stating "$10,000 fine for each garbage thrown into this water", it costs almost nothing, doesn't require any person to operate, and works all the time.
Umm the world already has things that do this. how is this different from an existing rubbish boom that funnels rubbish into a trap on the surface? Slow clap. Gawd people are easily impressed.
This probably only works in perfectly still waters and without wind. Also the amount of power you'd need to spend for this to work effectively would be rather inconvenient compared to just having a sanitation guy pick up thrash with a good old net I suppose. Also the "inventors" just rebranded what already exists. The real problem is in all of us, the people. Those who allow production of so much plastic packages, those who produce such, the ones who throw it all around wherever they feel like, those who turn their head another way when faced with action. But anyway, reality will come at us fast and we are all gonna be forced into adapting to a more ecological society.

Yes and no, we need to end forever plastics-that’s the root of the problem. and have the corporations that produce them and lobby against greener options pay for it.

Congratulations!!! You two deserve a Nobel Prize for saving our waterways. I hope you have millions of these manufactured. They are needed all over the world. Many thanks 🙏🏽. ❤❤❤❤❤
And then when the bins fill up,they can bring the contents to a recycler, who then recycles it all into new plastic, which is then made into new plastic containers, which then gets discarded back into the oceans. It's the circle of life.
Actually, this is completely non effective because it needs constant flow to collect trash. Once the clntainer is full of water it's useless. Always surprises me that someone can throw a vid on YT and people will accept it with zero critical thought.
Sadly, what you don't hear is often for a reason. It's common practice (and approved by the government in most areas) in America that trash gets compacted and dumped 4+ miles offshore directly into the ocean. I know this to be a fact and is extremely well hidden and not talked about at all. When you rent a dumpster, more often than not, it is getting compacted and dumped into the ocean. The richest 6% cause 68% of c02 emissions (mostly due to private jet use. Just look up Taylor Swifts emissions for 1 year) The more you know the more you realize it's all a giant grift.

@@mikeconey2164 your standards are realistically high and you can be called the human dictionary. You’re an extraordinary person and you’re the hero. Forget about these two guys who invented the seabins which really don’t mean a thing in helping save the environment. Let’s just celebrate you and your major contributions to the heavily polluted/problematic environment. Bravo! You’re the real life hero! 👏🏻👏🏻
Just shared on my wall. Hope everyone here will do too to spread this genius invention of these 2 gentlemen who sooo deserves an award. The world needs this ❤🙏
This is absolutely amazing! It could change the world to a better place, definitely, and improve the quality of many seas. These two brothers deserve praise, big time!
I couldn’t find their names here, if anyone is interested: Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski, both lifelong surfers from Perth, created their first prototype of the Seabin, an invention that helps collect trash, detergent, and other waste from the waters in marinas that would otherwise make its way through our oceans.
There is actually something like that being used currently. I forget what they are called but they catch massive amounts of trash from rivers to keep it from going to the ocean. Mark Rober did a video on them a while ago
I really don't care where they got the idea from. They took the concept further to use it in populated areas where the trash collects. This needs to go worldwide.
They didn't come up with it. These devices are called skimmers and are known for decades. I used this principle in my fish tank as a kid... more than 40 years ago.
Every employee in a waste disposal company is better for the environment than this invention. It's just another classic greenwashing project. Instead of starting at the source, clean oceans are advertised, which is not possible with this method
They wont be recognized by the Biden administration bc they aren’t trans and they aren’t true tree huggers… 🤷🏻♂️They are actually doing something for the environment that matters.
This is true but when children are spoon-fed a curriculum that is politically dictated their 'creative imagination n exposure to Nature's needs' is affected.
Well, producers have engaged in disinformation about pollution for decades. But I think the tide is turning. I hope. I don't think they'll give up without resistance, however.
They do much better than useless politicians who, for the most part, have no real answers to our problems. Their reaction to any new issues that comes to their attention is new taxes. That's the only thing that most of them are good for!
@@RyanBanmanI think millions of these need to be placed EVERYWHERE all over the world, the trash that gets into the water usually travels further out yk so we’ll need lots of them everywhere not just a specific place
Yep, and like so many great ideas - corporate see the potential and acquires the company, rights, lock, stock and (literally) barrel - then markets it as an indicator of great corporate ethical, environmental/green ownership ..... think carbon offset, carbon bonds, carbon credits/allocation, OR they spend a fortune on media/academic/scientific articles and programs dicrediting the risk/need/effectiveness of the threat/ innovation .... it has all hapoened before and will again
Aussies make something similar for swimming pools. It looks similar and sucks up the floating debris like leaves. It might actually be these same guys. Works great.
WHY? WHY IS IT ONLY THE GOVT RESPONSIBILITY?. YOU DONT LIVE IN THIS COUNTRY, YOU DONT SWIM, OR EAT, YOU NEVER LITTER, WE ALL LIVE ON THIS FUCKING PLANET AND EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TRASH GETTING THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE, SO WHY IS THE GOVT RESPONSIBILITY TO FUCKIG CLEAN UP OUR MESSES?. IM GOOD I CAN CLEAN UP MY OWN.
And what did they do? Exactly a new greenwashing project without any benefits, wow how great. It just sells better than a regular garbage collection system, which is really effective
Maybe they were made aware of how big the problem was because of protests, maybe they protested themselves before taking charge. In any case protests are almost always a necessary step to enact change.
@@ahz4877If you watch the video they were just fed up dealing with it while surfing. Protests and riots do nothing except convince people to be against your ideas. To change something would be to physically work on the problem not complain about it to the public.
Excuse me. The magic should have begun years ago. When we were Greta Thunberg's age. Our window of time is severely truncated to 9 or 10 years. Lots of work to do. In a short time. Can we do it???
Corporations who make disposable products should have to make or purchase and deploy one of these for every equivalent volume to fill one of product they make.
I totally agree!! The damage and on going cost to environmental issues let alone the expense it's costing tax payers all over the world for the sewage treatment plants!!! Just like those disposable nappies, the new generation are lazy selfish and self righteous attitudes is disgustly!! Us humans are distorting our planet for our future generations, shame on US!
I didn´t know what a pool skimmer even was untill I saw your comment and looked it up. Your comment should be at the top of the commentsection, lol! I think most people don´t own their own pool and hence have no clue how to keep them clean. So 99% of the people watching this video have their minds blown.

@@GiSoldier559 yes I agree 👍 💯 it's nice now but it wont be a beautiful planet forever if we. Continue to.pollute our oceans eventually it will.have a negative affect!!
@@sebastiansch7inventions always take some sort of inspiration. Doesn’t mean we need to take away from the creativity of applying a solution in one setting to another.
But you already pay those taxes, goes to cleanup contractors that raised the prices very high because of foreseen delayed payments and fixed biddings, also the payments to officials to make themselves pass though it all, including to guarantee they win the biddings and receive the payments quicker.
Lol, it's not just that people are doing that. A lot of garbage get blow around from dumps, garbage cans so you are wrong it's purely people doing it in purpose 😅
Agreed! Yet it's not just the "litter bugs", it is about waste management. The way trash is poorly contained and poorly collected within our rural & urban areas is the greatest contributing factor to pollution, the wind carries it straight out to the oceans and seas.
@tonyz6421 they aren't wrong. Humans are responsible for how we collect and contain the debris, so both of you have correct and valid points. It us OUR responsibility
For a idea that's in every pool in the world. Man, everyone is stupid. This is a literal pool drain skimmer. It's not a great invention. Now that they built it and got them out there is what they deserve a award for. But it's a feel good project smart people realize this won't help much.
Can you imagine that the amount of trash we created has been only the last 55 years. I'm 72 years old. I remember growing up without PLASTC or portable plastic bottled water. Plastic was a good invention, but it'll become our doom if we continue serving our self-serving, ambitious, lazy ways. So far, I haven't drunk water bottled at all. If I have to go out for long periods of time I take with me cold boiled water in a glass bottle and reuse it as many times as I need it. I also reuse the food storage bags, I wash them with a bit of soap and a drop of alcohol and rinse them while I rinse my dishes so is not to waste water... afterward, I let the bags air dry. By doing these "crazy" things I do, I feel less guilty and sad when I contemplate the destruction of our BEAUTIFUL BLUE PLANET ❤❤❤❤❤❤
It already is our doom. Read about how tests reveal that there are micro bits of plastic all throughout our bodies. Is there any wonder why the number of autoimmune diseases have skyrocketed? So you think that just because you have never used plastic water bottles that you have escaped the poisonous invasion of plastic? Ever eat food that was stored in tupperware or restaurant plastic carry out containers? Or anything from the grocery store that is in plastic pouches, trays, containers? What is the inside of your refrigerator lined with? Your plastic coated food utensils used to avoid scratching your non-stick pans? The abundance of items in your house that have plastic in them or on them? Think again.
I am 74 and in 1969 I took a hydrofoil from France to England. On the trip I asked a worker for a trashcan and I was told to throw my food wrapper into the English Channel. I said I couldn't do that so I was directed to a garbage can. A few minutes later the same worker emptied the trash- dumping the contents into the water. What a difference 50 years of dumping has made to the planet .
We are already screwed. 90% of humanity has microplastics and forever chemicals in our blood stream. Not just in our stomachs. These are the end times it would seem.
