Oh, they're stunning! Full length is the way to go. Can we take this as a lesson to not take for granted or minimize an artist's work simply because they haven't been categorized among the hallowed masters of yore? Just because it's not old, doesn't mean it's not great art. In other words, can we have more vision before deciding to molest a piece of art? I'm so glad that this magnificent restoration was possible. Kudos to all involved.

The question remains as to why the painting was truncated in the first place.

I presume the paintings were cut down when the room was redecorated in the 19th century. This, I think, was alluded to, at least indirectly, at the end of the video, when the desirability of restoring the room to its original Baroque style was mentioned. While reducing the paintings was certainly not ideal, at least the pieces were retained, instead of being discarded.
