Amazing to know how there are people that cannot just set back and enjoy an old movie for what it is. One of the early talkies. These movies are total classics, and fun. Thanks for sharing this movie!!! I love it!!! :)

Yes, It is a good one. I'm trying to see a lot of movies from the 1929-1934 era. There were a lot of risque scenes in those movies; and I can see why moralists were screaming for censorship
@openview8463
@openview8463 4 года назад
@@Mritalicsmine Plenty of people like to scream "censorship" but the 1st Amendment is there to protect political speech, not society-destroying filth. I wish the code were still in force today so children were no longer targeted by pipelines of sewage as they are today through their "smart" phones.

Those people that you are talking about,... that cannot sit back and enjoy an old movie, are what I call......the 2020 generation,....the assholes that want to be the first to hear and do what they hear in the radio, or TV and newspapers or what society dictates, and are afraid to talk about dying and the end of times......Young or OLD they haven't matured yet,..... and still have a lot of growing up to do.

Amen to all who appreciate these old flicks. in the days before heavy special effects and ridiculously expensive sets, the dialog and facial expressions of the players had more to do with a good film than all the "eye candy" of today. These days films are more about visuals and effects than plot or witty dialogue. One has to go by the standard of the day as well as the history of its background.

John Christy - in the days before squibs, sharpshooters were on set to fire near the actors. And some shots were too close for comfort.

What story? The one where some guy breaks into a rich guy's home, menaces his daughter by waving his fingers in her face, then she and her boyfriend run off to investigate the sanatorium the guy was mumbling about (instead of, you know, TELLING THE COPS), and encounter some goofy stork man who talks like the Swedish Chef, while the maid runs around like an idiot sounding like Olive Oyl? I think I'll take the monsters, explosions, car chases, cgi cartoon stuff, and gun battles, thanks.

thank you so much for posting this film. some scenes in this film were very amusing, and that's understatement, in fact, I consider them classics! :) if you are not too square, if you are cool, you'll enjoy this film. keep your mind open and don't be too harsh. this film worth much more than the low rating in imdb (4.4). some viewers just haven't any sense of humor, they are just too serious. don't be like them! be cool & stay cool ! ;)

I LOVE old movies, especially from the golden age of horror! This is NOT one of those golden age horror movies. Terrible acting might explain the IMBD low rating of 4.4 it received. The humor just wasn't very humorous. I'm glad some of you enjoyed it, I however fall into the 4.4 that thought it should have become a lost movie!!!

Classics? This whole movie is basically taking scenes and plot points from the Roland West movies The Bat (1926) and The Monster (1925), and from the Paul Leni film The Cat and the Canary (1927), and stitching them together into some kind of Frankenmovie that makes no sense. Why did The Phantom escape, and send that note that he would be at Hampton's house at 12:30, only to not show, because he was too busy playing mad doctor with a bunch of loonies at an insane asylum? I admit I like the Information desk guy, but that's all I liked. Apart from him, the acting was awful. I highly recommend the other films I mentioned, or if you don't like silent films, there is a 1930 remake of The Bat called The Bat Whispers, also by Roland West. As for The Cat and the Canary, the 1930 sound remake is a lost film, but the 1939 version is intact, though I haven't seen it yet. There is no remake of The Monster, so that can only be watched as a silent film, but it has Lon Chaney, so whatever. All three stories are also based on earlier plays

When you consider that in those "early days" the creatives had very little to copy...so much today is a regurgitated "mixture' - one admires the achievement. The question always remains - "could any of us do better in their shoes?" And given the chance today could we overcome the controls and restraints and restrictions of our totally different world to produce something as new and as enthralling as the films of those days"

Always loved 'Big Boy' also~ he got that sobriquet, as well as his movie start, from Will Rogers! Hed' been a cowboy, from N. Texas before movies, and here's a funny anecdote from his love life: "His last wife was Dorothy Peterson, whom he first met in the 1940s. Prior to meeting her he had been engaged to Lupe Vélez but she broke off the engagement at their friend Errol Flynn's home by breaking a framed portrait of Williams over his head and then urinating on the picture." 😃 (wiki)

Of that genre. Reporter says she should be escorted by handsome officers wherever she goes. Let’s not be sexist now. I’ll nominate driver as worst actor, but maybe he wasn’t, might have been having round the set. Remember 77777 number. Yes receptionist has star ⭐️ all over. Let’s also not be sexist here now.

" Uncle Tom's Cabin" ? By Harriet Beecher Stowe.I' m not sure what was meant by that reference,other than the time frame it was written in,as it was about " the slaves& their lives" during the period of their servitude under the control of plantation owners.
