Melodramas that have this kind of story line are often lost (misunderstood or panned for wrong reasons) by modern viewers. The skill (and the character actors) needed to make it work may not be apparent, due to the soap-and-tears. Some movies like this seem more successful to us than others. I like this one - thank you for posting it.

thank you for posting this beautiful diamond. excellent plot. this film should have been covered (during golden age of hollywood), this time with famous players. it had real potential to be a huge hit. too bad no one thought of it :-/

Norman Spencer and Bernard Brown, who did the music for this old picture, also did musical scores for the Leon Schlesinger cartoons at Warners during the mid-1930's, just before Carl W. Stalling took over.

The brunette at the start was a honey.

He was the Frank Sinatra of the 1930's. All the women swooning over him. Not a dry panty in the audience.

Who is the African American actress at 3:25 and 4:54 referred to as "Mini"?? IMDB seems to have no information at all on this character. It appears to me to be the same person in The Mystery Train (1931) playing a similar role who is also completely uncredited and missing from the cast list on IMDB, although the maid in Goodbye Love (1933) is actually listed on IMDB while uncredited in the film. Was this Hattie McDaniel? God bless her soul.

Audio ... not for me.

An early take on the "treatment" of the handicapped. This is directed as if it were a silent film. Note the facial expressions. And note the unarmed shooting toward the end by the police. Not so much has changed!

Nice Drama! If ya gotta kill someone, do it with a little class! Thanks for the REAL movie!
