As someone who grew up with The Phantom of the Opera Broadway soundtrack - it was my first CD ever - I have loved VP's version from the first time I heard it. It is faithful, while adding to it. So, a lot of it is in the original, (it is arguably the main song of the musical) - the spoken parts, the rising notes that the female (character's name is Christine) sings at the end, etc. - but the beat and most of the harmonies were a VP special. I love the percussion track in this. The water drops had to be an homage to the musical, as in that scene, the Phantom is taking Christine down to his lair underneath the Paris Opera House, where there are water pathways and it looks like old school dungeon. Anyway, it was super fun to watch you experience it for the first time. It was wonderful material for VP to work with, and as always, they killed it. Tony is really talented. He and Layne have their own production company, Pattycake Productions. They do awesome RU-vid videos. (Fyi, VP's Eleanor Rigby and Geoff's Sixteen Tons was filmed at their studio!) You should totally react to Pattycake's The Villains Lair series. The second one is my favorite song, Tough Love. They are original songs, written by Tony and Layne from the POV of Disney Villains. The productions are so great, with different people playing the characters.

While they never go wrong with Rachel this is my favourite Collab with her. Layne and Geoff held the base and beat so well. Eli and earl were on point with harmonies and Tony and Rachel were just magic together. Great reaction.

Geoff hits a lot of chest Bb1’s in this and he’s doing a lot of ‘Wooaahhs’ which make everything sound more full. He hits a D1 growl at the start and and a F1 somewhere in the middle. He went beast mode in this

How have you NOT heard the original Phantom of the Opera!? Now that my little outburst is out of the way. I love your reactions. They are just so genuine and so warmhearted :)

As old as this video is, it is still one of my favorites from VoicePlay! Edit: Not sure why I thought this was older than 5 years but that's what it shows on their channel. In any case, it's still one of my favorites!

Tony is sadly gone from Voiceplay, and I discovered VP after he left, but he’s my favorite. He is doing PattyCake productions (I may have gotten the name wrong) but he is now partnering with Layne, and a fun music thing he’s in is “The Quarantine Musical” it’s pretty funny. Take a listen if you can. Thanks

It is from the Broadway musical and later movie, Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and has some of the most beautiful music and score and story. Take a couple hour break from all you do and watch the film. It is a stunner.

I love what they did with this. I did this one with my high-school choir, ages ago. lol The original is obviously more operatic, but this vibes so well.

At 6:25, you asked what was going on and what that sound was. It sounds to me like that is purely coming from Layne. It sounds like a lip-roll combined with some throat-singing (possibly using growl notes) to hit it. YES, it's un-godly low, so everyone assumes it's Geoff (who is holding a phenomenal bass line on top of this part, btw) but we can't forget that Layne calls himself a baritone but can get down to an A0. If no one has explained it to you by now, allow me because this is an easy one. The next time you see a full size piano (like the 88-key variety), walk up to keyboard, and find the last (or first) key on the left-hand side...literally, the lowest note on the piano. Play that note and let it ring for a second....you just heard an A0.

The face you're making in the thumbnail is the face I make every time I hear them. Have you reacted to their "Beautiful Low" song? It's one of the first with J. None And already can't wait for the reaction to the one they dropped us yesterday! Your reactions are amazing every single time.

I think it would behoove you to watch the movie (free on RU-vid). I actually saw this live, it was amazing. There is no "upbeat" to it. Michael Crawford sang this on Broadway for years.

In their last chat on Pattycake productions patreon Tony showed us that mask. He said it was molded to his face so it'd be more comfortable and easier to sing with.

HISTORICAL NOTE: VoicePlay / Rachel Potter 1st collaboration [ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-spa88tPh2HE.html] was released Mar 2013 - a few months before Rachel competed on X-Factor and VoicePlay competed on The Sing-Off (adding Honey Rochelle - a poor fit, IMO). Arguably - VP may have beat Home Free IF they could have added Rachel instead. Home Free are top notch; but VP + Rachel ensures a strong performance! Also, note that (before 2013) Rachel Potter had played on Broadway (ex: Wednesday in The Addams Family) after playing Disney princess roles at Disney World.

I am very familiar with this song/Broadway Musical/book, I have five sisters, though they weren't the only ones that listened to this around me growing up. I recommend you watch the movie based on the play. Anyways I also suggest you check out the cover by Floor (Nightwish) and Hank Port, you'll love it as well, it's closer to the original but more Rock. The original is NOT opera, the play is based around characters in the Old Paris Opera House.

You need to watch some of the Pattycake Productions. It’s Tony and Layne’s company and they use the people from the theme parks. My favorites are the villains and I’m waiting for the next season of that. However they just are .starting up the princess academy and releasing them.

For another great but totally different version of this song (my favorite version actually - as much as I love VoicePlay) I recommend Nightwish's cover with Tarja (the first singer) and Marko (the grittiest Phantom you'll ever hear). I bet you already have a lot of suggestions for that one on their videos and I don't believe you've heard Tarja yet?

If you do decide to check out The POTO, make sure you check out the original musical with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. And this version is, in my opinion, my favorite besides the original (which is less percussive, and is slower and more dreamy and haunting).
@steveray9655
@steveray9655 3 года назад
It's funny (to me) how many people automatically think of the musical, first. Personally, my favorite POTO is the horror movie, starring Robert Englund (yes, Freddy Kruger). I read the book a long time ago. It's another story that Hollywood keeps screwing up. Even my previously mentioned favorite gets it wrong. This music cover, however, is absolute gold! And, your reaction was great.

Same, I am not so fan of Opera too, for me, the vocals of opera was too much for my ears and makes me to lose interest listening to it. This voiceplay cover was a masterpiece, especially when listening to it with earphones or much better with headphones because the production was so awesome and making them sound smooth and clean, hmmm Geoff and Rachel have an agreement that when Rachel sings higher, Geoff gets lower HAHAHAHHA.

The background singers were too loud they almost over did it as I had a hard time figuring out who was singing at times.

You seemed a bit like you were ashamed for not knowing the phantom of the opera in advance. If you are this ashamed by it, just take 5 seconds before the video and google it^^
