You have no idea how much this channel means to me. As a child raised by television in the 60s and 70s (it was my babysitter), these movies are more than nostalgia, they heal me to my soul in an ever increasing complex world. Now into my 50s, this channel is my goto for a piece of my history and a sense of calm and comfort comes over me. It used to be maddening traveling to other cities (I travel a lot for work) and trying to find old movie channels and inevitably, their idea of vintage film was vastly different from my own. Now I have you to keep me company, no matter where in the world I am. From western to Sci Fi to film noir this channel is everything to me. Without your efforts these films could be lost forever. You are a part of the living history of America and you keep this but important part of cinema alive.
Yeah my parents were divorced... Lived with a mom who worked every day......so the new medium called television baby sat & raised me too ...in fact most values I hold on life were instilled watching 30 min sit-com's ...... ha ha ha
@@rudolphguarnacci197 Exactly, can't wait for the coming Cataclysm cycle to really happen on this earth plane. Poles flipping is what I want to see. What was dry, will now be tropical and wet, what was tropical and wet will now be cold and dry. Yay!!! Exciting times indeed.😁
Got to love these old movies. They put the cheese in cheesey. Life was simpler when we were naive and innocent. Captain Kirk would have nailed all those women.
and the guys have haircuts of the same era (that would change by the end of 60s due to the Beatles) - and it's a lucky coincidence that the aleins spoke american english
@@johneyon5257 how else can you make a movie so you can understand it , entertainment was all they did just like tv nothing but entertainment no real help or intelligence to care
Surprisingly accurate with regards to quantum physics. I am surprised at the scientific knowledge that was around 60 years ago. And how so few people in 2020 are aware of such anomalies .. 🌛
@@mattyrock2467 For me, the 2 all-time best scifi movies are : 1_ Jack Arnold's 1953 "It Came From Outer Space" 2_ Walter Wanger's 1956 "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers" They are complementary to each other. The 1st is a message against xenophobia. The 2nd is a cautionary tale against complacency : When you have something as precious as your freedom, you can be dead sure that there is someone somewhere who want to take it away to dominate over you. No wonder certain people at the time & even today, rabidly & hysterically denounce this movie as "hysterical". Perhaps because it cuts too close to the bone. See them for yourself if you can find both of them.
All older movies like this couldn't rely on only -(or hide behind) Fancy C.G.I. SPECIAL EFFECTS, profanity, graphic nudity. They had to have some kind of plot, story, and character development - NO matter how "stupid" that appears to be!
Brian J. Carnevale how profound!!!!! i guess, according to you, if we’re not spending hours playing video games, then we’re like out of it, yeah? glad you’re so successful in this 2019 world!
Here's a clue -- CGI, profanity, and nudity do not make or break a movie. I love how people like you somehow think that a movie with CGI and some swearing can't possibly be good or have a plot because, well, it has CGI and swearing!!! As for the profanity, the reason why you hardly ever hear it in these movies is because, in those days, the heavy hand of censorship made sure even gangbangers could only call each other "rat finks" and "blockheads" because, yeah, that's just how gangbangers talked even back then, right? Or how some WWII soldier gets machine gunned and dies without so much as a drop of blood being seen anywhere -- and instead of blurting out an expletive which is actual reality, the censorship police ensure he can only say, "Gosh darn it, I've been shot!" Never before were wars, fights, and hateful rivalries portrayed in movies so ... so gosh darn polite! Forget about even trying to portray reality because we as an audience are just too ... gosh darn sensitive to hear horrible words. (Profanity is just arbitrary nonsense, I might add -- a handful of words that were pulled out of the English language for no reason whatsoever and decreed as being ... somehow bad. As if they had magical powers or something. They're just words no different than the ones I'm currently writing. If not for centuries of indoctrination that claimed these dozen or so "naughty words" are, in fact, naughty, they would just be ordinary words. Some people just aren't happy unless there are at least **some** meaningless rules to break.) I know a lot of WWII veterans complained bitterly about how old Hollywood portrayed warfare as essentially bloodless and very glamorous -- which couldn't be further from the truth. It wasn't until "Saving Private Ryan" came out when veterans stood up and said, "Now THAT is the closest thing to reality that I've yet seen." Except how good could "Saving Private Ryan" be with all that terrible CGI and profanity!?! Why not find some veterans of D-Day and ask them, hmm? I will agree with you about the graphic, steamy love scenes that I can definitely do without. I can at least understand these scenes within the context of a romantic comedy, a romance drama, or plots that focus on relationships. However, that is my one big complaint about new movies that have to throw in a pointless love-making scene that doesn't advance the plot or do anything to move things forward. It's just a meaningless scene thrown in there for horny men who get their jollies from watching two strangers having sex. To me, sex scenes are like commercials -- a time for me to get up and use the bathroom or make a sandwich. Yet I'm not sure which is worse -- the steamy love scenes or the utterly fake kissing they do in older movies. Just watch how people kiss. They just put their lips on each others' mouths and move their heads around. But their jaws stay motionless -- and if you're not moving your jaw, you're not kissing. At least you can really feel the passion they have for each other in a steamy love scene. These old kissing scenes are a joke; I derive no love or passion whatsoever from those fake kisses. You can tell that neither actor/actress really wants to kiss or be kissed which spoils the scene.
I'm over 74 and used to live back then and I can tell you that the women of those times and modern woman were all the same. We tend to romanticize the so-called 'good old days.' Covid 19 withstanding the good old days are NOW.
I was soooo fascinated with these sci-fi films as a kid I could not back then see the "cheese" so to speak. To me everything in the movie was real and could not think of anything in the movie to critique and I was so thankful I lived in an Era that had these movies...thanks for the upload.
The good thing about this film is that its watchable. Its a bit wacky in places but it doesn't drag and the actors are doing a good job of putting across their parts with good conviction. No doubt it was a good gig for all of them. Better than waiting tables and parking cars. Check out the Japanese-American babe (Akemi Tani) sitting at the command desk! Her hopes for a Hollywood acting career were high ... I'm pretty sure the elderly guy who is something of a judge (Sesson?) is Francis X. Bushman who was a famous star in the first Hollywood golden era. Died in 1966. Once billed as the handsomest man in the world, he performed in silent films and early talkies, then played supporting roles in prominent films throughout the 1940s and 1950's. He also guest-starred in many of the golden age TV shows. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Interesting to note that this film came out during JFK's first year in office. The space race was heating up and it must've been mere months later that Alan Shepard did his first manned space flight. Up into orbit and right back down again. Even back then, I imagine this film seemed to moviegoers a bit more like mid-1950's sci-fi fare.
Yeah old bald..i always thought there was a humorous point to Harry Nilsohnns :’Spaceman’ wherein he sings about all it is really is round and around and around. They’ve never been anywhere really despite their bluster and budgets!! 🎸
Are you kidding me ? In a heart-beat I'd have stayed. All of these opportunities - I'd leave planet earth, in a short New-York city second, WITH A SMILE !
The blond guy is principled and honest. Not qualities admired today. I would do the right thing in any given situation but many view this as a weakness
Robert Kinoshita was also art director on “Lost in Space” & it’s fun spotting all the similarities in style and tone in this picture. (“Star Trek” & “Land of the Giants”, too).
People aren't necessarily lazy -- it's hard to be productive when most of the jobs are being replaced by automation. Not everyone can be a scientist, engineer, computer technician, robotics expert, computer programmer, etc. There has to be jobs that literally anyone can do -- but those jobs are becoming extinct, leaving the less intelligent or people without the right social connections to rot on the vine. A lot of people want to equate that with laziness because it's easier to make that assumption than it is to address the various problems in our country -- and it also helps when millions of people suddenly need government assistance to survive. Just call them lazy since that's easier than acknowledging that people really do need help. I agree with the rudeness, though. The internet has done a brilliant job of dehumanizing our social relationships since it's easier to just fire off an email than it is to get up and actually go to your friends' or neighbors' houses for some actual face-to-face interaction.
You have to love the old, small budget syfy movies, Bad Acting, Bad Directing, Bad Script, Bad Cinematography and Bad Special Effects, but they are Cult Classics that I love watching
Love this channel Movies that were great I really don't care for the movies they make now , I don't really watch a TV anymore because I do not care for any the shows , plus I don't have to pay for a outrageous cable bill I can watch what I want on RU-vid (my favorite) I can get old radio shows ,movie serials , old movies and old TV shows Tubi And a couple of other places as well
The alien costume was made from Mrs Murphy's old living room drapes. It's set off nicely with an attractive fringe edging from Mr Murphy's late spaniel Mary. True story.
Good movie for the Saturday matinee crowd (kids). Surprisingly good music score, special effects for that era, and sub- story lines. Solarite antagonists and their method of attack are right out of "This Island Earth". So, it's (1961) and you're 11-12 years old with a box of "Dots" chewy candy... all's right with the world. What memories... Ridgway Strand!
And I also notice that one of the two astronauts (who gets blasted on the first scene) was played by Jimmy Weldon who is also the voice of that little duck Yakky Doodle on The Yogi Bear Show.
One of the best sci-fi love stories I've ever seen. Always watch it when it comes up. The great acting, the cheesy props and special effects, the music, even the black and white filming was awesome. Saw it first over 50 years ago and it still has the same mystique as when I first saw it. Thanks for sharing. Made my day.
I am from the 50s. Where is my flying car? My spandex jumpsuit with flaring epaulets. My robot butler. My antigravity belt? Guess I'll have to wait a few more years...if I've got them... ..
The worlds most uncomfortable astronaut chairs, plus (typically) the boss's daughter is a tramp. At least he didn't have to snarfle the garthog for the mute girl.
What I don't understand is this advanced civilization master sits on a rock throne. The two women look hungry for a man. Were are all the Black people?
When the guy in charge of Mission Control says, “HE’S GOTTA BE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE! HE JUST HAS TO BE”, you know we’re in trouble. You just know we are.
Regardez "Beyond The Time Barrier"(1960) un charmant scifi en n/b sans pretention et empli de douce nostalgie. Comme "La Machine A Explorer Le Temps", version de 1960.
The Captain must’ve been blind in his right eye, to let that Solarbaby get that close to him for that long. Perhaps he was given a Red Rider as kid? And too also, who else was hoping that Liz Taylor’s formerly mute sister had snuck onto the ship, and when they went to open open the cockpit door to disembark, she’d be standing there wearing nothing more than a space blanket and a smile? Although I think she could’ve done better, the Captain was a bit of a dope for leaving her in the first place.
"RHETON'S GOT TALENT" ("Ray-ton" is "The Phantom Planet") The only thing that TURNS ME OFF about the LEADING MALE'S TALENT, is that his PANTS are ...... ...... Halfway up his chest, like SIMON COWELL! 👎😂 I'm going to have to press my BIG RED 🔴 BUZZER! "Sorry! It's a NO from me!" 👎😂 However, noticing the LEADING MAN'S BUNS, while he was FIGHTING BARE-CHESTED, I may have to press my GOLDEN 🛎️ BUZZER! 👍😂
Wow !!! What a perfect sunday, chillin out with some pizza and watching an awesome classic sci-fi flick ! This movie was actually really good ! Good script, hot chicks, I would have never left Raton ! Thanx pizzaflix, you guys are awesome !
These old SCI-FI MOVIES from the 50s and 60s are often SO BAD, they're REALLY GOOD! 👍😂 No such luck here ...... this movie is just REALLY BAD! 👎😂 This movie's only saving grace, is that the leading MAN IS A HOTTIE in his tight spacesuit! 👍😂💜 It's just a pity he's only SIX INCHES TALL, and as big as his own [WORD CENSORED BY RU-vid] before he was miniaturised! 👍😂
What a great plot..........The human looking aliens are benign and the malevolent aliens are sinister. Having sexy human aliens always makes the plot better.
1961?? Really? Looks like an early 1930 comedy movie. LOL! Meteors flying in formation like the Thunderbirds, except not trailing any red, white and blue smoke. ROTF "A ship in routine flight." hilarious!
So says the Marxist Scumbag. Marxism vs American Capitalism, I'll take U.S. Capitalism every time which preserves Freedom. In fact it was America that rebuilt all of Europe and saved 10s of millions from starvation caused by your Marxism. Yet, no one bothered to say "thank you." Your character really show. To hell with ya.
funny they are doing a kind of space walk but there's gravity walking on spacecraft funny not hooked up to ship at all , spacecraft keeps going and ... so on I still watch these unrealistic movies I don't know why
I used to go to the Saturday mat. and watch 3 of these space or monster flicks for a quarter, get a pop corn and a pop...Great times back in the early 60's, I'd work all week for 50 cent and spend it all at the movies...
My dad raised in the depression said when he was a kid the movies only costed a nickel but nobody had a nickel he said he was so poor he would walk in backwards when the show was over before the next viewing
A usual error in sci fi movies of all times (with exceptions as 2001) is setting the facts 40/100 years ahead using techmology state of the art of the movie epoch.
