I use the PTU-2U in my rack at every Wedding and I've never had a issue or dropout with them. I use the PTU-1U for Ceremonies and also never had an issue. Now I did have some dropouts and interference with their PTU-71 System(little brother to the 7000) at a wedding, thankfully no one noticed but me because it was during open dancing. I only use that for bar gigs now lol. I think they make great products for the money. The build quality on all of them is up there with the Big Boys. Great Video Man!! Keep it up!!

Hey thanks Kris! Yes the 1U is pretty solid, I’m just hoping this one was just a fluke. I wanted to build an SKB 3U shallow cSe with these but not sure now😐

Hey, great and honest review!! I was curious about Phenyx too and bought the PTU 2U recently and made a review video as well. I was super impressed by the range too! Phenyx should send you that one next! I wonder what you’d think of it compared to your sennheisers

LED lighting at the venue or effect lights can affect the cheaper systems. LED's are notoriously noisy. Great review!

I have the PTU-6000 8 mic system that I use for Karaoke. Sound wise, while not up to Shure or Sennheiser standards they don't sound bad. I still have issues though. First being, most of the wireless systems I've used show the battery strength of the transmitter on the receiver, the Phenyx Pro doesn't, which leaves you guessing. Not a major issue but still a pain to deal with. Second and most important is DROPOUTS!! I've found out the hard way not to use the volume controls to control the mic volume. Just about any time the volume is past the 10 o'clock position on the receiver I've watched the signal just cut in and out. I run a Mackie 1604 VLZ3 so each mic is XLR out on it's own channel and use the boards input gain to give myself enough headroom. Even then I have to keep a close eye on the receiver to make sure it's still getting a signal. Third is that the grille is cheap. I had the system about three weeks and a singer accidentally dropped a mic (accidentally or on purpose, it happens a lot in Karaoke), while the mic was OK (great build on the mic), the grille looked like an ice cream cone that was starting to melt. No way the grille should be bent that far out of shape from one waist high drop. Fourth is that the on/off button is poorly placed (not just a Phenyx Pro problem). Dealing with someone who knows how to handle a mic is one thing, but dealing with singers in a bar who haven't a clue and have been drinking?....I've lost count of how many times a singer has managed to mute or turn the mic off in the middle of a song. Like you said, you get what you pay for. OK system, just don't trust it for anything important.

Very nice balanced review with both good AND bad ! Like a review should be, like a real dj-buddy would say it, and like DJ Unstopable warned you ! I have never been a fan of these 4-mic systems, I rather have better single systems. And I was never in a situation where I needed 4 mics. At 37:33 you talk about the single transmitter+single receiver/box if thats the PTU-1U from Phenyx Pro a review and real-world experiences at a wedding would be greatly appreciated. I have had an eye on the PTU-1U to replace an Alto Stealth 1 as my 2.wireless mic, I´ve had good results gaf-tapping the Alto receiver high up on top of my speaker wich gives good "line of sight", and running XLR-cable down to my XR-12 mixer, but must admit it doesn´t look good🤥

I live in Long Beach ca and I use the shure QLXD’s also and I have performed at 100’s of weddings. I only ran into problems in Palos Verde trying to find a clear signal and realized they using the shure ULXD mic at the same and maybe were using the one good channel? I picked up the 7000 because RU-vidrs swear by these but being a wedding DJ I was hesitant to depend on them! I used them ONCE for a ceremony in Malibu CA because I needed more than my normal 2 QLXD’s mics for singers and musicians performing. So they did work ok since I was about 50 feet but I did here one SLIGHT drop out and never used them since! I am thinking about selling them and replacing the 7000 with the 2U model instead? Good real world content and I am guessing that people who LOVED the mics don’t live in southern CALIFORNIA

I hear ya on that! The 7000 was sent to me for a real world review and they failed me at my first event but thank God I had my Sennheiser as backup. Ever since then though they have been solid. I dont think I would trust them in Downtown Houston though. Even my Shure system has trouble finding an open channel in Downtown from all the heavy UHF traffic. 🥹

Have you tried to remove the capsule? The amazon listing for these shows a picture of the capsule screwed off yet other reviewers have claimed it can't be removed... The actual capsule looks like a Shure Beta58a copy on the Amazon photo too. It would also be nice to also see the capsule with the grill screwed off.

Maybe you should buy an antenna distributor and use the dual fin set up to extend the strength and signal of the RF... You should have a much better result with the 7000.

@@djdannybhtx good to know! Thank you! I’m in Los Angeles so wireless mics are 😬 sometimes here. Hard to find a good channel. I’ve been borrowing the Shure Qlxd from my church and it does the job. I’ve been looking at the phenyx for a while but I’m still nervous about it!

Only My opinion. I maybe would've tried having your receiver antennas above your facade. Maybe that would've helped with the signal. Maybe a stronger antenna would work. Plus for video purposes, I would've tied my camera into your board to hear the direct audio. That way we can hear what you hear. But all we hear is the muffled audio coming out of your speakers to the camera. Regardless still a great honest opinion of the product. It makes me not want to buy it. The "Hiss" and "dropouts" are 2 different things. Your "hiss" is because of the gain/volume on your mixer or controller being to "Hot". The "dropouts" is a signal thing. But those are still equipment issues. Plus you really didn't do a "field test". If guests were in the room and you tried it out. That's a true "field test". Because you know as well as I do. People with cell phones can make a big difference. You can scan as much as you want before guests arrive. Once you have bodies in the room it makes a big difference. Especially with Frequencies.
@djdannybhtx
@djdannybhtx 5 месяцев назад
All true. I shouldnt have to try different antennas. This was a test with what the unit came with. Gain on mixer was set as it usually is and was the same for the Sennhesier which worked perfectly, AND was sitting lower than the new unit. Yes, next time I will connect an external recorder to the mixer for better sound. If I wasnt getting a good sound check, I’m definitely not waiting until guests arrive to test it. I’m trying it out again today for sure though. Thanks Mike 🙏🏽

@lucasdemaria1024 5 месяцев назад
I'd normally agree with your suggestion but after switching all my units to Shure BLX, I would never go cheap again. I've thrown those receivers in the worst possible places and they still work, crisp sound, not a single hiss or dropout. Also, when using more than 2 units, I use an antenna combiner just in case. I stop being stressed out forever now :)

Nice review. I like the FACT that you mentioned people get in the way of any wireless signal which degrades or completely wipes out the signal. And yes, trees, bushes and other things will also affect the signal. I bought these 2 years ago and did a box opening. I use them for karaoke use only. i found out for any use further than 50 feet out, they cut out. But for karaoke its fine. >>>>> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VQ1PzJTwxgI.html
