Love how you’re always switching up the format and making it fun to watch. I imagine you’ll never actually be in a situation like that cos you’re a magnet for positive energy .
Now THIS is content for photographers. It was almost like watching The Office. Entertaining AND educational. Thanks for this. Hopefully we can see more like this. Like how to handle different difficult scenarios. Thanks again man. Huge fan of this channel.
I felt like this recently. I asked a friend if I could take some photos of her to practice portraits. She said yes, and she was excited. Long story short she has 12k insta followers (I have 500). We did some street photography it was great. I started editing, after 4 days I was done with the ones I liked, Sent them to her. Then we decided to go out again and shoot and she kept asking for more, more more more photos. She deadass sent me a list of over 40 photos she wanted from that shoot including raw files and I had to ask permission for which photos I could post. During the shoot she started dictating the entire thing asking me to shoot her like this and that. Saying she wanted pictures in this pose at this location ect. Like wtf I just wanted to practice headshots outdoors with a friend. Then it turned into a free shoot where she decided what she wanted and what I should edit and the type of pictures I should take. I haven't edited photos or taken many pictures since then. Like people use you and its disgusting. Best part is after that she got an iPhone 12, removed all the photos on her grid (Including ones I gave her the week before that she "Loved") and started posting iPhone selfies.
Just to clarify, 3 photos into editing the second shoot I felt so demoralized I told her "No. I'm not doing this, you don't get to dictate the photos I take and where I take them". She apologized for "using me" because she "loved the photos" (again she removed everything a week later). Said sorry she made me feel that way... Then 3 days later asked me "Is it ok to ask to see what you are working on" as if I should continue editing ect. Like fk that. I'm just going to use the photos to practice skin retouching and color grading. I don't even want to post them. Which just makes me feel like I'm practicing and editing for nothing but hey that was my original intention. To *Practice*
I shoot professionally. When doing those free shoots you don't need to ask for permissions on what to post.. When I do my free shoots. I send my favorite shots. Shots I feel look good. People who are getting their picture taken. Have a tendcy to pick bad pictures. And that's because they see things about them self they dont like in it that only they see. So they end up choose I worse photo just so they dont have to see it.
This looked like a fun challenge! Finally, a challenge that showed more about the field and the people rather than the gear and techniques. Very entertaining!
Wooww... I thought that photography was just about implementing your knowledge, shooting the model and letting your creativity flow, but I was wrong. These challenges are teaching me so much about the importance of knowing how to handle oneself in such situations and the interaction that you ought to have with a client in order to maximize the outcome of the shoot. As demanding as it was, I like how jake dealt with the actress & publicist better but I like how vibrant the colours of your photos are and how editorial they look.
Haha, I enjoyed this one and imagine there really are clients like this out there. I once shot with a (paid) model who made it clear during the shoot that she'd expected things we were not exactly providing (like vegan food, specific music and "nice" environment"). I thought she would never want to shoot with me again but in fact she reached out a year later and we did another shoot - in a deep ravine in a forest where she ended up bitten by mosquitoes. But the images ended up amazing. I like shooting with models that are prepared to suffer a bit, in the interest of getting amazing images. Not an option with your sort of "Hollywood client", of course, especially if you are just starting out and it is them paying you. Another entertaining episode and I love how you take the best advantage of film in these situations!
Asking for the picture right away when you’re taking pictures in film made me cringe so damn hard. I give you props for keeping up with their energy. I couldn’t do it.
Can’t believe it took me this long to find this video! I’m good friends with a long time celebrity photographer from LA that said the exact reason he retired was dealing with the “pricks” in Hollywood. Of course now he owns a vineyard. 😂 Keep rocking it!
Mike this video is brilliant. I don't think I laughed so much in my life. I need to rewatch it to give you a total number of every time you said sorry!!
I did a great deal of work in a community like the one in this video. Not photography but the same kind of interactions. Now that I’m retired I would tell these kind of people to go take a hike. I acting was so good it made me want to jump into the screen to tell them off. Obviously I work better with inanimate objects in my old age. Thanks to all.
usually with shoots like this there would be a team on both sides and before the shoot, shots / ideas and concepts / wardrobe would be agreed on..but man the little details about trying a shoot / being in the photo industry could be with difficult people is so dead on accurate..having flashbacks as an intern at Milk Studios
I loved the video ! I witnessed and worked on a multi format (photos & videos) shooting going down with Angelina J (yeah). You're missing another role, or multiple ones : agency and clients. You can multiply that pressure and stress by 4x and the stupidity of the situation by 2 :) I'll keep that experience for the rest of my carreer.
A few things: 1. Taylor Shields has butterfly wings 2. Jake’s a billionaire And 3. Y’all both killed it! Honestly, there’s no clear winner 😑 For the first time in history, it’s a tie for me! 👍🏾👍🏾
😂really high pressure,,patience challenged to the max,,,good actors portraying ass attitudes,,,& yet you came up with your super shots,,good job Mike!!
Bravisimo Mike!! I love this kind of content!!! keep going!! having Tyler being a jerk client was awesome!! I love these shootouts! You teach us so much nos just about photography but the whole world around editorial shootings It is just amazing! and congratulations on the photos also!!
Found this difficult to watch. I can not imagine this happening in real life and having to deal with it. I notice in the closing sum up with the fab 4 that Tyler has Angel wings.
Definitely feel like the was more harder oh my boy Mike felt like it’s was real straight up more than Jake’s shoot, he had some difficulties but felt like his was just more frustrating and they acted more in the first round. But definitely loving Mikes shots a lot definitely getting a more modern art type of look and feel from his photos can’t wait to see what y’all come up with next!
HAHAH such a great video. " you think your camera can capture that? " I've totally experienced that in real life. Not with a high end fashion shoot or anything, but just with clients in general working with people can totally be a challenge esp when you as the photographer, designer ect have a plan or vision and the client just shits on it.
My campus does the same thing as this, the lecturers can be very mean and always asking for revisions over and over until I realized that I got screwed up by them, because my limited time becomes more limited
From 8:04 to 8:27 was a typical photographers frustrated rant. But the catch is the smile at 8:26, wow....good shooting though. “it feels so good”...the sarcasm..lmao
Fortunately this has never happened but shooting at Toronto International Film Festival we see how bishy the PR's are by not allowing fans to interact with the talent. Thank G*d most of the actors just do what they want and come over to us. 🙏
Ohhh damn I was already frustrated just watching this challenge. And all the time I kept asking myself if I would be able to handle such an attitude during a shoot since I’m very critical about my work. Damn this gonna be hard on me
Ok, the moment the guy said she acquires 7 ice cubes, is the moment I would have to reconcile with my inner self. The moment with the jumper suit, I would had snapped, Samuel Jackson style until the second they closed their car door and drove off.
Cool episode guys!! I really enjoy these and I’m sure it’s helping you guys grow and get the different perspectives.. Tyler seems like a really cool and genuine guy, I’m not sure if anyone else noticed or if it was intentional, at the beginning of the video starting at the 10 second mark to the 24 second mark the butterfly wings are directly on point behind Tyler!! pretty dope!! The wizard with wings..😂 GOD bless guys keep the content and inspiration coming!! 📸
I’d love to know what your post production process is. What software you use and how much or how little you do to your photos. Also, with this challenge here, what was your approach with the light meter? Did they allow you to meter?
I could see the stress on your face 😂 but I liked how you kept your cool. The photos you caught were still fire though. The one with her laying down by the pool was just great to me! I also liked the one in the yellow outfit :)
“Thank you so much you were fantastic!” Mike: “Thanks..” *turns away quickly* Lmaooo great video as always dude! I would have had a hard time not laughing if I was working with people like that😂
Um but this is expensive art so I can’t stand on it right? Correct? Okay 😭😂 See I would’ve made a big mistake, breaking the probably $10,000 butterfly installation. learning so much. Another awesome one. Thanks.
I've worked with some people like that for many years. I think you did a great job, little bit awkward at first but your pictures are excellent. I wouldn't stand for that kind of behaviour now, but then I'm not starting out, now i'd just pack up my stuff and walk away, without a word being said ;) .......that would feel really good !
Bro, on your instagram that yellow dress on green is Fire, but in the video that B&W was so clean. So I have to go with you winning this one homie. Extra funny was Tyler telling you to “get your $!@& together” 😂.
