This fairy tale in every version still teaches us one valuable lesson: You may never make a promise you cannot keep. But you must also never break one you can keep.
The hint towards the real end of those kids is when the disabled kid throws his crutches away and skips into the cave opening.. because....after all, you don't need crutches in the afterlife. :)
@@matthewmitchell6646 well the pied piper did abduct all the children of that town and brought them to some ‘magic wonderland cave’ so ya I’d call that a kidnapping Edit: oh! And what do you think he is doing to those children after they get locked in the cave? They will die of malnutrition if left there because you can’t just eat sweets your whole life so they are all probably eating each other or being shipped of as child slaves or worse! I could go on and on my friend
First of all, he is a mayor. Not a king. Second, yes. The mayor was a jerk for not thinking about what the pier could do. And the adults who believed him choose to blame him for it.
They're ALL idiots. They literally watched Piper not only charm the rats, but magically conjure a giant cheese wheel from nothing and then with the ENTIRE city's plagued population of rats, banish all of it away to places unknown. He wielded great power right before their eyes, and yet they didn't think he could use it against THEM?! IDIOTS!
Its a genius representation of future generations paying the price for parents choices. We are collectively responsible for the people we produce through the lives we live.
I always assumed that the moral of the story was to always follow through with your promises or risk loosing something far more precious than what you promised.
That mean they are a,so very stupid: they blame the mayor but they do not run after their kids. Some story say the parents and adults couldn’t not follow them because the flûte create a magic power which paralyze them. It is also like a symbolism: the pied piper is the angel of death. Like a ghost grim reaper.
The most disturbing part? This story it's actually real and it is documented in Hamelin city, 130 children disappeared from their houses after following a flutist, and disappeared forever after going through the Koppenberg ordeal
"Linguistics professor Jürgen Udolph says that 130 children did vanish on a June day in the year 1284 from the German village of Hamelin (Hameln in German). Udolph entered all the known family names in the village at that time and then started searching for matches elsewhere. He found that the same surnames occur with amazing frequency in the regions of Prignitz and Uckermark, both north of Berlin. He also found the same surnames in the former Pomeranian region, which is now a part of Poland." according to wiki
@@Schnoz42069 The evidence is sketchy, but it appears young people of Hameln did wind up there. So far, the evidence is only linguistic. They haven't started poking DNA yet.
Both the rats and the children died and went to their Heaven. The proof of that is the crippled boy who got rid of boa crutches right at the entrance of the Children's Paradise.
To those who think the mountain kingdom is a metaphor for the afterlife, they're wrong - this is actually taken from the Robert Browning poem which the dialogue also borrows from, which ends with the Piper leading the children through a portal in the mountain. The poem also mentions that a tribe of Gypsies turns up later in Transylvania descended from those children coming out the other side. The boy on crutches is the only one who doesn't make it, and regrets it the rest of his life. Disney obviously didn't think that was fair and decided to have him join the others.
The last words of the song are (if I understood the bad audio correctly) "ils resteront toujours à ce paradis" or "they will always stay in this paradise". Paradise could be interpreted as" heaven" too.
I love that they made the audio in French. It's really cool and interesting. Also. I don't blame the pied Piper for taking the kids away the town's people were really mean and untrustworthy.
It was recorded in a number of languages, to include English, this particular upload just happens to be one of the European languages. The other version I've seen here on RU-vid is in German
@MC W20 OFICIAL Uhm...the original story is based on something that actually happened & some versions he brought them back once the people of Hamelin paid him... I could *maybe* understand your point if he was shown to be abusive to the children in any way, but he's not. By saying him leading them off & being the only adult makes him seem like a pedophile, you're projecting your own subconscious thoughts onto him, whether they're fears, desires or concerns. I recommend going & watching Jon Solo's video on the Pied Piper of Hamelin's origins, he breaks down the story, it's history & potential meanings very well & points out that in all likelihood the story is just a fantasy & the "disappearing children of Hamelin" referred to them growing up & immigrating away from the town. Like all fables though, it's supposed to teach children (& adults) a lesson, in this case that lesson is "don't be a dick & go back on your word, otherwise you might pay for it dearly". It's supposed to be unsettling. Pretty much every fairy tale ever was originally dark & even frightening to teach children about how cruel the world could be. Alot of them have been changed, softened & otherwise adapted to make them happier, more palatable & less frightening, but they also lose their original lesson & value. For example, originally, Cinderella didn't get the prince in the end, her stepmother killed her & one of the sisters cut off (at least) one of her toes so her foot would fit & she married him - all in an effort to teach kids that wishing for better things didn't pay off & could be dangerous. Instead, now it's been changed & adapted so that she gets her prince in the end - and in doing that, we ended up with an overwhelming amount of young girls who grew up "waiting for prince charming to whisk them away", inadvertently teaching them that they needed a man to 'save them' before their lives would be good.
I think the Pied Piper caused the story to happen. Here's my theory: I think the Pied Piper heard about the people of Hamlin including the mayor. So he cunningly promised the rats that if they cooperate with him by infesting Hamlin and following him when he plays his flute, he will award with them a huge amount of cheese. And his plan works because the rats invade the town and he successfully 'drives' them away and they get the cheese as promised. Then the piper performs a secret test of character by asking for them money the mayor promised him. But unlike the piper the mayor didn't keep to his end of the bargain which was what the piper feared. Knowing his worst fears were realised the piper leads the kids away so they cannot end up like their parents or the mayor and raises them as his own.
The original fairy tale ends way darker - the kids and the rats were'nt supposed to live in happy dreams. The piper led them to a river and left them to drown...
I think the story of the Pied Piper is more of a moral of what happens when you cheat someone out of something in promise from your greed and hubris, you'll learn the very hard way that something precious will be taken from you in vengeful retribution and you will never get it back at all afterwards based on your sins of false promises and fraudulence.
As far as I remember, the mayor did suspect something of the kind and it was one of the reasons for his fatal decision. Depends on who cheated first. The moral, methinks, is to mutually keep the word, just like the contract - that is, unless the real proof emerges of the other side treachery. The mayor refused to keep the agreement, thus provoking the piper. And the mayor mistaked the pied piper - who was obviously seen by mutiple witnesses demonstarting skills above average (who knows what he is also capable of?) - for being a harmless trickster, which led to a poor thinking and a harsh decision. Bad job.
I think that the most “light” version of the Pied Piper of Hamelin suitable for children is one that my brother read. In that version, the Pied Piper is the music teacher of Hamelin’s children and sends the rats to live to the forest with other animals so they don’t annoy the Hamelinians. When the Mayor refuses to pay the Piper, the kids give him the idea to play music to bring back the rats, leading the Mayor to eventually pay the Piper and realize that promises must be kept. In the version I read as a kid, it was only the Mayor and some of his ministers who refused to pay back the Pied Piper, leading him to trap the kids in a cave until the town pressured the Mayor to pay him back and apologize. As I read this version as a kid, I was amazed when I read the original one.
@@joaquinbarboza3223 Is the version your brother read the one adapted by Peruvian children's singer Miss Rosi for her "Cuentos clásicos con Miss Rosi" (Classic tales with Miss Rosi) book collection? I'm a Peruvian and also checked it out once.
It is such a beloved animated Walt Disney Silly Symphony classic short The Pied Piper, very much a musical masterpiece of a beloved tale ever with epic storytelling from the legendary Walt Disney,so well done to Disney anyway!
A real medieval legend the pied piper was based on a man in tights and multicolored coat with fife named rattenfanger lilted rodents away then kids to a part of middle ages Germany adopted and cared for them in a cave like park like scene
And to this day...on that one street in the township of Hamelin...NOBODY is allowed to sing, dance, or play music! Some legends hold truth in them...Great film.
Só um gênio como o Walt Disney e sua competente equipe de animação pra transformar contos pesados como o flautista de Hamelín em algo tão belo de se olhar!👏👏👏
My fav part in the Pied Piper is when the children hears the music and makes a stampede. There were so many of them and I saw a detail. When the Pied Piper broke down the wooden gate, I saw two girls holding hands near the gate and they were blonde.
In some of the versions of the story it's even worse, the Pied Piper drowned all the rats, and then drowned the kids, in lighter versions, the Piper gives the kids back after he gets his money, this cartoon followed the version where the kids go to somewhere better.
3:41 My guess is that in this version, all the rats are sent to a dimension where there are cheese and all the rats' favorite food are everywhere, and no predators existed. All rats lived there happily ever after.
This is apparent of actual living conditions in representation of how corrupt politicians fail to deal with the rats (corruption) by keeping the money among themselves, and the severe consequences that society will eventually have to deal with in the end of all things.
6:43 - "When, lo, as they reached the mountain-side, A wondrous portal opened wide, As if a cavern was suddenly hollowed; And the Piper advanced and the children followed, And when all were in to the very last, The door in the mountain-side shut fast."
Sometimes I wish there was a real Pied Piper nowadays to lead children away from their abusive, toxic, so called parents before they become victims of further abuse in the worst ways and save them from becoming serial killers or abusers themselves.
In the original story, after the villagers refused to pay the Pied Piper. He takes the kids away from them and lead them into a cave. No one ever heard from them or seen them after that. So it's unclear what happened to them. It looks like a dark ending. However, Walt Disney decided to add context to the story. And I really like it.
Hi, this is Anand from India I'm very fond of fairytales esp western one. If any westerners here you must proud for your ancestors for not only achieving many medical, scientific, political & humanity achievements but for fairy & magical stories related things. I'm watching all these old cartoons and astonished to see how the heck this guys came up this much of technology & scripts around 100 yrs ago ?!!! Your fairytales & characters are really wonderful. Your ancestors were great in every field.
If we see and observe the ending of this cartoon they still show the orignal story by showing the kind enjoying in heaven it's a dark story but in old time stories u will find it pretty common
"A vingança nunca é plena, mata a alma e envenena!" - Seu Madruga Apesar deles terem pacto, tem alguns ensinamentos bons, devemos olhar o lado bom das coisas.
So he takes the children with him to this “special place” where they’re all happy , suddenly this boy doesn’t need crutches anymore… is this happy place supposed to be heaven?? 😳😳
Nope, it’s only for show asvertising back to the 40s. Fairy tales were stereotypical like Hansel and gretel, red riding hood, the three little pigs and mother goose stuffs.
Solo "i bambini" (gli inocenti) si salvano da una societa di imbroglioni, ladri e fanuloni ( gli adulti stavano a chiacherare e facevano lavorare i bambini ).. e si salvano seguendo la "musica magica del cuore. " ! "Lasciate i bambini che vengano da me." disse Gesu Cristo... Ed ancora : "In verita vi dico, non avrete vita se non rinascerete dall, acqua e Dallo Spirito Santo."❤️
in 1933...after viewing this silly symphony bursting with color🎨🖌🖍...the audience spent the next 2 hours squinting at a primitive talkie in black and white...🎥...👥....
The moral of this story is that people should never ever be ungreatful and most importantly that agreements made should always be honored. This animated story is the most accurate one apart from the many other animated pied piper stories.
So the people just watched their kids get kidnapped and didn't do a thing....the mayor should've kept his part of the deal and the people shouldn't have mocked the piper...that's how the piper gets even
Do you know that the Pied Piper was real & there are no children in Hamlin Germany today as he charmed them all away with his mysterious flute. The only child left was a crippled boy left to tell the story.
Muito nostálgico. Lembro do desenho. Depois, soube que era um conto dos Grimm e dizem que de fato aconteceu algo terrível com dezenas de crianças. Tudo muito sinistro. Parece as histórias que minha avó contava. 😅
Ja es basiert auf einer historischen Begebenheit. In der deutschen Stadt Hameln wurden im späten Mittelalter tatsächlich sehr viele junge Menschen angeworben und verließen für immer ihre Heimat.
This doesn't seem like much of a punishment on the parents end, they freaking wanted their kids out of the way. No seriously! Not a single adult tried to stop their kids from leaving!!!
I kind of feel for the children. I understand child labor was encouraged in those times but that they were able to leave and be children, whether in a cave, or heaven, they found an end to their suffering.
The way the whole town laughed after they gyped the piper makes me think it wasn't a good place for kids to grow up. But that big wheel of cheese and the playground is disguising the lake and the resulting deaths of the original story. Especially evident when the disabled kid no longer needed his crutches. So I wonder what to make of this. Maybe the piper was some benign angel taking the kids out of the corrupt and wicked world (evident on how the townspeople behaved and not a single adult spoke up agains the behavior) and straight to heaven. // The town was crushed into extreme poverty, and the people there endured decades of extreme hardship and suffering, their baffoonish king beheaded and replaced with a cold extreme taskmaster and brutal dictator. The townspeople are reduced to wearing burlap sacks, and chained in iron collars and shackles to prevent any revolt or escape.
I remember when I was seven I read the original version of this, and now I'm shocked that my father gave me the book of this story at a very young age!
Honestly, I don't blame the Pied Piper for leading the village's children away from their corrupt parents due to the Pied Piper fearing that they will end up like them (or quite possibly the mayor, since he refused to pay him) although what's going to happen to the mayor at 6:25 as the villager's glared angrily at him. I suppose they are going to hang him for his corruption since he was the one who provoked the Pied Piper into luring the children away🤔🤔🤨🤨
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it - Matthew 7:13-14
I was in elementary school 🏫 my classroom teacher 👩🏫 told me this story and we saw a book 📖 with a picture 😊 its German folks story….1995 feeling that era.
What if the rats are previous kids from another town he kidnapped because they didnt pay him. And now he took these kids who will become rats to con another town.
What a sugar coated ending...the rats get transported into another dimension in a colossal piece of cheese and all the children spent eternity in a playground.....leaving the adult townsfolk stuck in their dreary life.
It was all the mayor's fault. True, the pier may have sent the children to another, carefree realm where they do not need to grow up. But it was the mayor who caused this by not giving the pier what he promised. And now, the price he has to pay is all around him.
Veo tu punto pero creo que hay una diferencia. En el la caricatura de Pinocho, los niños eran malcriados. Por eso terminaron mal. En esta caricatura los niños estaban siendo explotados por los padres. Y fueron a un lugar más feliz para siempre
