I dunno why but I like the yellows in pikmin 1. Sometimes you just cannot be bothered to deal with combat for that last ship part in an area and you just say “Fuck it, call in the bomb squad”

Another more underrated quality to Bulbmin is you can throw them into candy pops and turn them into normal Pikmin. Yeah, they wouldn't have omni-immunity anymore, but those are still free Pikmin that can now be taken out of the caves at the end of your dungeon crawl. In a sense, they don't even have to be stuck in caves.

You forgot the carrot pikmin. They're very useful for observing enemy movements outside the stress of combat, and in a way, they created pikmin 2 itself. So they're probably top of c tier at least.

The really funny thing about WInged Pikmin in 3 is that they're surprisingly similar to Purples when it comes to combat; they're a general purpose shotgun that deletes anything you charge them at, if you have high numbers of them.

Mostly a good list, but I do think you underrated red and blue pikmin in 3 quite a bit. Especially reds. Rocks are good for fighting but they don't latch onto enemies so I used reds just about as much for fighting

Even in Deluxe, Pink can cheese specific treasures, bypassing entire puzzles and saving quite a bit of time. Now I want them in Colossal Caverns mod somehow....

tbh i think pikmin 3 purples are super underrated. yeah their combat ability sucks but that’s not what you use them for. them being able to carry 10 times their weight is super useful, especially in a game where (i think) the heaviest treasure weighs 20, meaning two purples can carry back any treasure in the game. So you can use purples to carry back a bunch of treasures all at once while you multitask and do other stuff. you may say that they carry things slow which is definitely true but that doesn’t really matter since there’s so much you have to do in a mission mode map anyway that by the time you’ve done it all they would have gotten it back. so imo since they can save you from having to use a bunch of your squad to carry stuff back they’re super useful.

To me, pikmin 2 felt like it just had more game even if it was just a pikmin dungeon crawler. I found it fun

I know Heff don't want fiery bulblax in pikmin 4, But I feel pikmin needs more enemies that requires a certain type of pikmin just to be able to damage them, instead of enemies that becomes laughably easy if you use the right type. This would even-out the utility of all types since all games seems to leave one or two types behind the others. Also this would up the difficulty of these baby games!

Honestly as someone who loves the concept of Puffmin, I agree with your stance it's D tier. Because you're not tiering based on how creative or unique the specific Pikmin is, you're tiering based on how useful they are. Meaning it'd actually be even more arguable to look at Puffmin as F tier, because excluding the glitch, they're a complete detriment to the player.

I like how everyone in the live chat in the video agreed that the red pikmin in pikmin 2 fell off and someone said that they got 70 reds by day 2 and ended up with 30 because they got converted to purple

I really like pikmin 2 Red Pikmin for a few reasons. Mainly because they’re less high maintenance to use. With Purples you have to be super careful and baby them all the time. Reds don’t have that issue which I appreciate. They aren’t slow, and I can lose more than 3 of them and not contemplate a reset. I’m not saying they’re better than Purples but I much prefer using Reds in certain situations. Like fighting the Segmented Crawbster. They also do more damage over time than Purples which I don’t think is something many people know. The Purple’s main damage increase comes from the slam, but when they start attacking afterwards Reds out damage them. They really aren’t deserving of being put on the same level as Pikmin 1 Yellows imo

The fact you need blues ONCE to complete Pikmin 3 is embarrasing. (To build the bridge leading to the Mireclops) I mean complete the story, not 100% it

I've only really played Pikmin 2 when I was a kid. Whites were my favourite because they were cute. I like their alien looking red eyes. Reminded me of bug type pokemon.

I could only play by having out an equal amount of pikmin of each color or as close to it as possible to satisfy the ocd urges, even when some colors are completely unneeded.

I completely agree with your list, but I just wanted to point out since you never mentioned it anywhere....in Pikmin 1, you don't have to sacrifice yellows at all. You can use the bomb rock technique, but instead of sacrificing the yellow pikmin, you have to toss the holder in front of the emperor bulblax, and wait for its tongue animation to start. Then just quickly call your yellow pikmin back. What happens is the yellow pikmin drops the bomb rock, and gets away just in time before the bombrock explodes the emperor bulblax's tongue...which makes the bulblax's tongue slap itself, and stuns him even longer! Way better than sacrificing a poor yellow, but you'll need more careful timing with the whistle. I did this all the time when I attempted Zero Death runs.

Blues in Pikmin 3 are at least good for carrying fruits that are underwater to the point where others can take them the rest of the way. Two in the Garden of Hope, one in the Distant Tundra, and two in the Twilight River. Ones in the Tropical Wild are easily brought back by Wing Pikmin

If the list counted the pikmin bloom ones, Bloom Pinks would be top of the S tier those guys are insane for expedition time, esp when you travel with them

The case with the puffmin is the ultimate “screwed if you do, screwed if you don’t” kind of scenario and it’s hilarious

Putting Blue Pikmin above Reds seems completely unjust. Blues are only ever good in the situations that *require* them. Unlike Reds theres no reason you'd want Blues outside of water hazards.

You might not see this, but recently a mod for pikmin 3 called True Spice came out and would be fun to see you make videos/stream it.

reds in pikmin 2 I think are the second to third best pikmin cause bulb min and purples are powerful. But red is so much better for general infantry cause of their speed and fire resist which turns fire enemies into easier threats while purples are at risk of dying just by existing next to a fire enemy.

I hope to god we have some sort of night mode with a whole suite of new pikmin in 4. That would be incredible

This is very close to the tier list I’d put together in my head the other day. Bulbmin were at top of A only due to lack of availability. I’d rated Pikmin 1 blues lower though, because even though water is so prevalent, I didn’t see that as much of a reward to blue pikmin. It’s a hard gameplay constraint that only they can fulfill, but does that make them BETTER necessarily? They’re very basic otherwise.

Idk if I’m interested in the reasons why someone would say Pikmin 2 is the weakest game. I like everything about it more than the other two honestly. I love that there’s no real rush to do anything, no “game over” like there is in 1 and 3.

One thing I really like about Blues in Pikmin 3 is their aptitude for underwater combat. It's not just a simple case of running up to an enemy and hitting them anymore, they swim right up to them now. Using the charge feature on underwater enemies, with a whole army of blues, is a sure-fire way of demolishing that enemy. It's a shame the game rarely gives players the chance to use it much, and there aren't any bosses that put this feature to good use (the 5th boss in the game can just as easily be beaten with Reds instead of blues). I hope Pikmin 4 puts this feature to better use, because aside from pulling out sunken treasure, that's the only thing they have going for them right now.

I think Pik3 Blues would be better bottom of B, 'cause how I end up perceiving it with how you explained all & lookin' at placements, it comes across as: Broken > Essential > Required > Optional > Unusable (glitch-free). But other than that, big agree on it all.

If I remember correctly I think Blue pikmin in 3 are pretty good since they swim in a way that makes them like flying pikmin underwater. Granted fighting in water isn't too common but blue pikmin are good enough to not just make you try to lure the enemy to land.

Probably would have put 3 Blue's in A tier simply because of how much of the final fruit collection sprint at the end of the game requires them. You can bring Flying Pikmin along to help but there are so many instances of underwater hazards or walls or fruits that Flying Pikmin just straight up cannot interact with. That and Pikmin 3 shares the lack of caves with Pikmin 1 meaning dealing with the overworld water is significantly more important in 3 than it was in 2. Other than that, great tier list

There is not enough pikmin content out there, and yours is so entertaining and well done. I LOVE watching your videos. They're my favorite videos out there. Thank you for the work you do!

Ok so I say you should put Pikmin 2 yellows in S tier cause they are the only Pikmin to get at least a quarter of the treasures and are immune to an insta kill obstacle. They also are the main type of Pikmin when trying to defeat the first part of the final boss

I like the Puffmin a lot but their spot in D tier is definitely fair. If its a tier list based on how useful each Pikmin is, the one Pikmin type that will actively try to kill you definitely belongs in the lowest tier.

The good thing about reds in Pikmin 2 is that they are always the type I use in candy pop buds because I usually have a bunch of em. You could bring one white and as many reds as there are candy pop buds, ~25 blues if water, ~15 yellows if electricity and height, and the rest being purple. I sometimes go through reds so much that I end up with no flower reds near the end of the game.

24:13 How are winged Pikmin changed in Deluxe? It was several years between when I played the original version and deluxe so I didn’t notice anything.

I know you dislike yellows in pikmin 1 but honestly, I think they're better than you give them credit for. For casuals ~ they are low tier. For faster speed runs I find them higher tier. 1 bombrock = 1 kill in 1 throw. No worries just slaughter. If you're fast you can do so much more.

Back when I played Pikmin 1 in the GC, the yellow pikmin where very useful because they allowed to easily hunt enemies with bombs. That changed when I got better but for a casual player, yellows are a lot better than C.

i would have put rocks at s before pinks, hear me out, they can basically oneshot the majority of enemies even in spicy, and they are also very useds in puzzels, my squad is usually 50 rocks 10 red 10 pink 10 yellow 20 blue, but it obviously changes depending on the level

I agree with most of the tier list, big ones that I differ are on: -Pikmin 1 Yellows up to A tier b/c they're required in small numbers, like I only want 10-15 so they suck, but if a few die I GOTTA go back for more when the same can't be said for Reds or Blues in -Pikmin 1 Blues up to S tier b/c the better a player you are, the better they get as you can kill enemies more efficiently and don't need reds for anything other than fire hazards for the few treasures that need it, but blues literally are irreplaceable and you mostly need like 60-80 at a time -Pikmin 2 Blues up to A tier b/c they can fill a similar role from Pikmin 1, but the enemies you normally have lower damage against are taken out by Purples most of the time so your other Pikmin are almost never needed for combat, so the other colors are composed of utility Pikmin like Blues because they're more frequent than needing Yellows and Whites suck at combat and poison can be killed by Purples These are based on my opinions tho and you can kinda tell how I play the game, so take it with a grain of salt

IMO I think the reds in Pikmin 3 are much better than in Pikmin 2. Yes the rock pikmin are powerful but they don't latch on the enemies and swarming with them sucks, so the reds having a higher DPS is just a better option for regular enemies I think. The rock pikmin are certainly no purples, and I think that alone is enough to put them at least in B tier :)

In my play through of pikmin 1 i had yellow catch fire, jump into the water then jump out of the water only get lit on fire again by a firey blowhog

I'm glad challenge mode is a thing in Pikmin 3. I just went back and tried it out and it's soooo good. It fixes a lot of the balance issues too, letting you focus on a lot of different types. I just wish purples and whites worked out better in that.

2 yellows and 3 rocks belong in their own tier. 2 and 3 reds belong in D, make the shroom Pikmin F or something

There was one playthrough of Pikmin 2 where I ended with only 13 Red Pikmin. They were just used to be converted to Purple and White Pikmin

I think that Pikmin 3 blues should be equal or right over Pikmin 1 yellows as even if winged can hover over water, they can't "fight" and collect stuff in water and blues aren't so bad for fighting. When I played Pikmin 3 around the end of the game, I was using like 10Re, 20Ro, 15Y, 30W and 25B or something similar because they are still important to carry stuff, to at least drag it out of water for winged to take over the job. Also meeting enemies in water or where you only can access with blues and winged, you can't really use winged unless you have plenty of them because they are weak chips, so it leaves blues that deal decent damages.

Idk if I would put winged pikmin in the same tier as pikmin 2 purple. Pikmin 2 purples are almost ALWAYS the answer when you have an issue in Pikmin 2. Winged pikmin are very good, but I don’t think they’re nearly as brain dead as Pikmin 2 Purples.

Pikmin 3 reds aren't completely outclassed by rocks, the latch effect can do alot for enemies that aren't always vulnerable, especially bosses.

Dunno about you all, but I'm so relieved in challenge mode when there's 40,000 things to collect and I come across some purples or whites. While Pikmin 2 & 3 reds are basically just useless, Purples and whites are always really nice to have; and while they can't really fight, they are rarely placed in battle enemies stages. In most collect treasure stages there are essentially no enemies; you can just kinda put your purples on a heavy treasure or whites on a stack of nuggets and watch the profits roll in. In my opinion, they're utilized more for the time they appear than most of C tier (I might even argue more than yellows).

Fun fact, you only need one white pikmin to accomplish everything white pikmin are needed for. Every poison geyser and wall can be broken by them, and all treasures can be dug up by a single white pikmin.

Where the fuck is Hey! Pikmin?!?

Glow pikmin would be above bulbmin, pikmin 4 purples would be also s teir. With 30 purples you could deal 1/3 of the final boss's health before they got up. The stun and homing attack is gone, but in it's place there is an AOE damage ground pound, along with IMPACT DAMAGE. Even if you throw them and miss, there will be the ground pound damage, and if the groundpound damage misses, if the purple latches on, there will be impact damage for some reason. Obviously glow pikmin are bulbmin but with the glowmob and can be spawned in a new mode, and during any cave.

Main takeaway from this video is that apart from wings and p2 purples, most pikmin types are fairly balanced. Rocks and p2 yellows are only good because of their ability to cheese the final boss (and the long legs for rocks), and if spicy spray didn't scam reds and favor wings they would see a lot more use in p3.

Putting Blues high cause you need them but then yellows low cause you only need them and don’t use them outside of that is just… what? If you factor in the walls and the high jump parts than Yellows are needed for 15 parts, blues for 16, since some require both. (Exploits don’t count) blues are just progression blockers. Reds do more damage and yellows have bombs which do a shit ton of damage. Blues are the worst in 1.

I'd put pink pikmin in c tier because they aren't fun and I only used em when forced to; they felt like a gimmick and worse than yellows (which i'm kinda always racist against from P1) for attacking. Rock pikmin in lower b imo...similar reasons, not fun (and zero personality) and feels useless ( I always play zero death runs)

Crazy to think that the most balanced "combat alternative" pikmin would be one that takes the worse traits from both rocks and purple. Slow speed, no grabbing onto enemies, no stun. Just impact damage and either crush resistance or carry power depending on the desired type. Of course tho we keep the ability to screw over the spiders, since that's the common element to both types.

I am super casual, have played all the games (except 4, soon) a couple times. Just did a 100% no Purps no resets playthrough of Pikmin 2 and had a blast. Reds def B tier in a no Purps run, so they have that lol. Honestly, gonna toot my casual horn, only took 23 days. Great games and good vid

It feels like the takeaway here should be less pikmin types allows them to generally get more time in the spotlight and that significant deviations from baseline pikmin functionality like being bulky or having wings needs to probably come with more downsides. Like I mean, swapping up Pikmin 1's yellow demolitionists for the electrical-resist of 2 and 3 would make for pretty good pikmin-type balance.

I saw someone recently say Blue Pikmin are the worst type in every Pikmin game and I was thinking WTF.

I truly feel you ranked pikmin 1 reds way too high. They deserve lower b or upper c tier. This is due to how too biased in their favor all the games present them as they're the first pikmin type you get and likely the ones you have the most in quantity for a good chunk of the game. Fire just isn't a devastating hazard even in 1 if you're vigilant enough and extra damage only does so much when you have 80 or more attacking the same enemy, likely killing them before they can retalliate. You don't even need reds at all if you have another type first. How would reds be if you get them second or third in the game?
