I got a PC Carbine specifically for the lower muzzle pressure. I was next to a guy at the range who had one, and it sounded like a 22lr when compared to a short barrel 5.56. I put it in a magpul back-packer stock, which is a little lighter than the original. I also mounted a primary arms 1x prism, and got about 3” groups at 100 yards with Winchester 147 grain hollow points. Hand loading for it has been interesting. I loaded some Lehigh defense 68 grain Xtreme defenders with silhouette powder and got them to 2250 fps so far. The same loads get 1700 fps from a Sig p365.

Lehigh 68gr +P is 2,200fps+ out of a 16” 9mm carbine! Solid copper round delivering rifle like speeds and terminal ballistics(secondary wound cavity)with a pistol cartridge! Fort Scott Munitions ammunition has the ability to pierce soft armor in a 16” carbine with its spitzer style projectile! Civil defense 50gr is traveling at over 2,250fps+ out of a 16” 9mm carbine (rifle speeds) and is delivering close to 700ft/lbs of energy which is nothing to sneeze at! The 100Gr-105gr Glaser style ammunition travels close to 1,600fps in a 16” carbine while delivering powerful +explosive wound cavities and is also being frangible for the safety of other’s(great for CQB). Not to mention the smorgasbord of 115-124gr (standard or +P)defensive loadings that have the pinnacle of 21st century technology and engineering onboard AND when fired from a 16” 9mm carbine have 357 MAGNUM POWER, 3 points of contact for control ability and follow up shots, low recoil, extended range, magazine capacity, accuracy, speed and lower recoil making for an amazing defensive tool for a myriad of roles that could also potentially share magazines with your sidearm in a pinch! Let’s not forget the 147gr-185gr(seismic ammo)defensive loadings that are hard hitting and have massive expansion and can be used in a 16” carbine for defensive applications quietly with a suppressor, for woods and hiking use against predators or even for hunting small/medium game in a pinch as well! Between the large variation of ammo from 50gr-185gr to the multiple applications and roles they can be used in and the 16” 9mm carbine squeezing all of the power out of the 9mm cartridge you have a diverse platform that I do not think has yet to be fully realized or matched from CQB, Rifle ballistics(bridging the gap between pistol and rifle), defeating armor, laying down magnum power with some of the best defensive 9mm pistol ammo available, suppression, hunting, truck gun, home defense weapon, ranch gun, woods gun, close range mid range etc etc the list goes on all with the change of a magazine and a wide selection of ammo with so much capability in this tool is what I think makes these platforms hidden gems! The versatility and capability is unmatched and the ability to share ammo or even magazines with your side arm is just a bonus! GODBLESS

When I was young (I'm 67 y/o), I had a buddy who bought a surplus M1 Carbine. It was probably manufactured circa the Korean War. I really enjoyed shooting that .30 caliber gun because the ammo was cheap and had little recoil. Today, the Ruger PC Carbine makes more sense to me because the magazines are interchangeable (I believe) with my Ruger Security-9 Pro pistol. Either way, I wasn't really considering a carbine for a closet/home defense weapon, but your arguments make a lot of sense. I've owned a 12-gauge Remington shotgun for about 40 years, specifically for that purpose. However, that gun and a few other 12-gauge pumps I've handled, is prone to double feeding with a full magazine. Which is not only a pain-in-the-a**, but it also makes it a gun I would never trust to use in a gunfight. Your argument has convinced me that a Ruger PCC could be a much better option. Thanks...and I really enjoyed this video!

I worked as a Correctional Peace Officer in California for 25 yrs and in the early 1990's we used an HK MP5 9mm semi auto with an 18 inch barrel for disturbances inside of the Cellblocks / buildings because of the fear of over- penetration with the Mini 14/ 5.56.,which was our primary weapon. That 9mm rifle was extremely popular with all of the Officers, especially female staff ,as it was a joy to shoot and qualify with. Unfortunately , President Clinton passed Legislation banning so called" Assault weapons" that prevented the Dept from getting parts for them and so, to my great dismay, they were mothballed. I miss that rifle to this very day but just recently purchased the Ruger PC carbine with the Magpul stock and it brought some of those range memories back. It has a bit more recoil than I remember the HK having but the fun factor is all there. I wholeheartedly agree with your concept of use as a home defense weapon and certainly as a truck gun as well. Kudos to Ruger for making such a nice piece of kit. Cheers.

Had mine since 2018. After 700 rnds ejection started to get sluggish till adding Mcarbo tool steel extractor and bolthead pins along with recoil buffer. Then made it lighter with Magpul's backpacker stock. Now runs like a top.

I did exactly the same. MCarbo+ Backpacker makes it light and reliable.

I've been thinking about that very concept for a few months now. This adds more to my justification/validation for home defense options. Great content, as always.

I bought mine because of Ammo cost…in Canada Cost per round 5.56 is around $1.45 per round.. and 9mm is about $0.40 per round.

Price for top shelf 223 runs close to 2$/round

The inside noise issue is a good point, esp. when you load w/ 147 grain ammo. That should stay subsonic even in the 16 in. barrel. 147 gr. standard pressure HST should be a good choice.

Good video. I also believe the PC carbine is excellent for a handy truck gun.

I got their magpul takedown hunter stock variant for the same reason. Allows me to pack it up into a small bag for when I travel and uses the same mags as my Glock. Very convenient package with a lot of firepower

Great content: I have been wanting an AR-9 style Pcc/Pdw, but I just can't seem to come up with the money. my credit sucks thanks to my EX-wife & being a fixed low income poor doesn't help. I just haven been able to get my hands on one...

Great video on this gun. Wait you're in California. You can only have 30 rounds on the gun, not 56 right? Jk😂
