Thanks for letting me know you were reacting to this song. It was used in the final scene of Fight Club, which was very famous. Maybe that's where you know it from? Anyway... it's one of their greatest tracks, catchy and creepy at the same time (those wailing vocals in the background are like ghosts). This album, Surfer Rosa, is a landmark - hugely influential. So glad you enjoyed it.
Guitars and percussion on Pixies tracks are always great. This song gives a better idea of Pixies than did "Ana", though they are difficult to pin down. My personal top 5 songs from them are "Gouge Away", "Monkey Gone to Heaven", "Cactus", "Brick Is Red", "No. 13 Baby" - though they've put out some great stuff over the past few years as well.
BTW, the video is clips from the movie _Trainspotting_ with a young Ewan McGregor. The song is literally thoughts that Charles (aka, Francis, Black Francis, Frank Black) was having while swimming in the Caribbean - though putting it in juxtaposition with the film footage does evoke a drug vibe.
Crikey, have I got something for you! This is as good an exhibit in the "Why I love the Pixies and you should too ..." canon as you can get. Even if you don't like it, you should at least be able to understand why people who DO like it, like it. It's just so smile-inducing.
