The 1980's were a time when music was changing dramatically as music video had become a popular format to advertise a band and image had taken on a whole new level of importance. Hair styles and fashion choices became more important than the actual music the band was performing. Bands like The Plague were popping up all over Hollywood using synthesizers and drum machines to replace human musicians so they could have more outrageous cocaine fueled performances that wouldn't go off the rails as easily. The Plague's hit single "Never Hide a Fart" blew up on top 40 radio and set them apart from the bands releasing songs that shamed listeners for their flatulence, which was a popular topic in New Wave music at the time.
