I love the uniqueness of this house. The risk is when the neighbors on both sides decide to also built to its height, the architecture would then disintegrate in an instance. The greatness of the house borrows a lot from the modesty of its surrounding.

I'd counter argue that. Conservatism, especially amongst the prominent, is quickly dying. Younger individuals these days don't conform to a way of life, and have explored the world, opening their eyes to things such as liberalism and freedom of expression. I actually see more terrace houses being bought up and redesigned in a contemporary and unique way. This is the future of landscape in Malaysia, especially amongst the prominent areas and it is very exciting indeed. I would love to see townships where each terrace house had an architect run through and totally redesigned the house. Can you imagine what wild designs will start popping up. Exciting!

i love that he mentioned that he built a home, so many people in this country thinks about just practicality and selling on value and all, and usually design is compromised because of that. its why so many houses here are cookie cutter box shaped and lack imagination.

I absolutely hate the houses that lacked this customised simple home for people who looked for a change of pace in this country. I want a large garden, farmland, underground storages and star viewing roof. I want a good home that are independent with it's own eco friendly energy sufficient that able to stand on itself off grid land. I dislike conjoined houses, narrow spaces, generals noises, lacked of green and noisy neighbours.
@adkan1995
@adkan1995 2 года назад
@@wanderingghost7324 same. And the worst is that when you bring these things up in conversation people will think you want "atas" or "rich" lifestyle. These things are basically not worth much, but they have been removed from homes here so long that these are seen as "premium" things to have in a house now. Ridiculous
@wanderingghost7324
@wanderingghost7324 2 года назад
@@adkan1995 That's because the general people haven't been exposed to the ideas of a simple home that built for a long term project. A good home is the home that can survive on itself, like earth intergrated houses aka hobbit like. I loves simple home that are careful planned and intergrated with the earth. When you built homes or design a city that will last for hundreds of years, you had to have this kind of mentality. The houses can be reselled in the future for the future generations. The houses had to have a room for improvement. I'm been thinking long term is very good instead of houses that will be rotted, abandoned and lacked the natural ambience that allowed for self sufficient. If more people aware of this, people will change their narrowed minds into a more creative way of living. People shouldn't judge others for this and instead work together to build our own homes. The houses had to work together with each other to created a superior way of houses that able to accommodate the creative sides of the owner. Together the world united.

In principle house is a private own asset. But yet it comes with cultural responsibility. We live to share our command compound with neighbours, either territorially or visually. That’s what good architecture school of thots will teach you 🧑🏻‍🎓🧑🏻‍🎨 Good architecture design is not always about achieving what we want or the owner wants without being sensitive to the surrounding environment. Respecting the typography around the built, is the utmost skills for us as an architect.…partially i’ve to disagree with structure of the house. Yes, insects are big problems in many countries because they can trasmit Chaga disease, dengue, chikungunya...many countries expend a lot of money on fighting these diseases. I think houses shouldn't have "garden" on every floor (in fact, this big house with many floor is not good for old people and disable people... if you want a house for living there till you die you need to remember that you are going to get old and ill). I think people should think more about being elder. Rich people can buy elevator, cleaners, chefs...but most people on Earth aren't rich. I think people should buy houses that: -have a proper size (= to avoid dirty space, to avoid space that isn't used, to avoid buying another house because the family became bigger etc) -have no floor (= better for old people, paraplejic people etc) -have a proper space for vegetals (=It avoids redundancy and It gives vegetals the respect they deserve).

It's true that the client and architect should have been more considerate and consider how the design does affect its surrounding neighbours. But on the other hand, this is located in the wealthy affluent neighbourhood of Bangsar where we see a lot of obtrusive renovations that are far worse than this; at least this was designed with some sustainability and green elements involved. It's inevitable this wealthy neighbourhood will change and become more densely built instead of maintaining the outdated terrace houses which families will outgrow over time. 50 years later, we probably see this neighbourhood having an eclectic range of unique designed homes much like Japan. It's a beautifully designed home that really stands out in Malaysian architecture and hope to see more of this.

While the house is impressive, I pity their next door neighbours. I believe it is rather selfish of the couple for not paying heed to how their house structure affect the next door neighbours views and sunlight. The couple wants to live in Bangsar near all the amenities and the facilities that Bangsar has to offer and yet wants to have a kampung (village) type of living style with trees etc albeit in an intermediate terrace house lot. I have seen a lot of reno programs in other countries and structures such as these would have not been allowed in municipalities in many developed countries in similar type of neighbourhood. DBKL, macam ni pun boleh approve?

To me, they are being selfish. To build that building connecting to the other terraced houses, is a bad thing. His entire foundation is probably hold together by both sides of the terraced houses... we would see massive cracks soon to his left and right neighbours. I have no qualms if he builds on a detached lot. I really feel for his neighbours. Maybe in West Malaysia, the authorities allow this kind of building. If in Sarawak.... I doubt our authority would allow this.

I guess in this case money was a "door opener" to become the allowance to build a house, which is much higher than the other ones around it. Maybe I would like the house if it was somewhere else, but here it's just a thorn in the side of a nice neighbourhood.

Planning allows the addition of an extra floor. There is a good reason for it in cities where space is at a premium. As for the comment on money, it hardly deserves a reply. Just ill will in my view.

Selfish build, design potentially. Removes previous given view from upstairs of property behind, also likely shades that upstairs. Puts neighbours window at side of build in complete shade. Neighbours said "should have been built elsewhere"... What, are there local building regulations, so overall ensures build is fair, considerate of your neighbours, similar height, not take their light, view. Do they have option to object or request review to stop certain design elements within reason.

Totally irresponsible for the architect to come up with this kind of proposal, neglectful sense of surrounding neighborhoods..I don't care if u want to design an urban infill or id works, with modern facade treatment or whatsoever..but still u must not project it so high to the sky...u need to respect the immediate units..if I were the neighbors, I would totally against this house owner to erect such a humongous entity next to my home sweet home..u are so lucky I am not the neighbor, otherwise this proposal would be scrap down before inception..I would use any willpower available like u did when submitting to the local authorities~ 2.5 stories can tolerate, but 3 stories with rooftop terrace is too much! I wonder if the mayor did chaired the council meeting for this reno work or not..if I were in the room, this would be different story...there's a limit for any major work and the architect knows that well~

Problem with local tropical trees is the falling of leaves might disturb the surrounding area. Also raising levels might prevent natural lights and fresh airflow to reach neighbours house. Please negotiate with the neighbours if you want to do this kind of stuff in the future.

I'm curious about the use of rooftop space in the terrace houses in KL. Obviously it is possible to make it into usable space but almost no one does it. It seems like a real waste not to put in a space for a BBQ and table and chairs or something along those lines. Of course it adds cost and complexity but that will come back in the form of usability and property value.

13:19 How did this scheme pass planning, would be intrigued to understand if the planners had accepted the proposed roof scape and massing over shadowing neighbours? A few terraces down another modern scheme dark grey shows respect for the sloping typology. Alas, the rest of the neighbours should now take this opportunity to extend their own houses as this scheme’s massing has taken precedent.

In light of climate change, archi designers should incorporate sustainable designs instead of a home where one has to turn on the light as they enter despite Malaysia having an all year round sunlight. Not only that, the design is so brilliant that the house is cool enough that air-conditioning is not required most times! Although the lot is small, the owners actually make use of the small space that they have! Simply brilliant. No other words to describe it.
