Something I'd love to do would be create a studio and physically re-release old near-forgotten games like "Wild 9" and/or even outright remake them. Beings *extremely* respectful and faithful the original I.P.. Be it the characters, lore, gameplay, and so on. Really something I'd personally love to do someday. There is a lot of fun, goofy, and interesting characters/art/lore of this game that is a dang shame nothing ever got done with it. And if someone beats me to Wild 9 before I ever get/got the chance, there's still PLENTY of others out there, in addition to my own ideas.
@Vynsent
@Vynsent 4 месяца назад
I love that idea! They could even make them into a little collection, including earthworm Jim 😅 I would buy!

I had that demo disc and played so much of this. I discovered JRPGs around that time though, with Suikoden. I was addicted right away, and proceeded to basically ignore every platformer on the PS1 besides Spyro. I really need to go back and visit some of the ones I missed.

I just found this recently while I was browsing random games on an emulation site and thought it was pretty dope after playing a few minutes of it. I've always been intrigued by 2.5D games, especially platformers. They're able to create such a unique aesthetic that hasn't been done to death or, even copied very much. I'll add it my list. Thanks!

The commercial sold me on this game so much. And while I do love it, what's ironic is that wanting Wild 9 is what led me to discovering my favorite series of all time, Suikoden. PS1 games were in a B1, G1 bargain bin and I had to choose among various games I never heard of to go along w/ Wild 9. So in an odd way I have Wild 9 to thank for that, as well. And yes, the enemy sounds are permanently ingrained in my head, too.
@Vynsent

I had the demo of this game on a demo collection. I played it as much as I could, and once I lost my Playstation in 2000, that's the last I've remembered of it. I didn't know the name of the game, details of any kind, other than dropping enemies on spikes, and that grotesque scream they made. Cue the search.

I used to play that same demo disc over and OVER for Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, and yes…Wild 9! MGS was groundbreaking even by today’s standards with how it played like an interactive movie and Wild9 was always pretty fun but I could never find a copy of whenever I went to Tower Records or Walmart w/ my Pops 🤷🏽‍♂️ If this was on PSN, I would download and play it rn in a Heartbeat just because I was reminded of it! Instead…I’ll have to sail the high seas ☠️☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

It was forgotten because it was forgettable. Commenting on this because the booklet that came with this game was fantastic pulp sci-fi. Incredibly imaginative, it could have easily been fleshed out into a series like Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. The game though ... was a dud. I recall everytime the main character (Wex) jumped, you heard "Wexcellent!". Playing this was annoying AF.
@Vynsent
@Vynsent 6 месяцев назад
I will admit, it did have some very repetitive sound effects 😅 I had never gotten to see the inside of the booklet though. That sounds awesome!

Doubt I could recommend anything new to you. Is Astro Boy on GBA or King of Demons on SFC really a hidden treasure after it's been mined for content so many times? And does either still hold up? As for Wild 9, it's bloody genius... but it felt like a missed opportunity. Why name a game this creative after what I can't do and won't see? Can you imagine Jet Set Radio demanding we stick to the character marketing chose for us? Also, personal taste, but I prefer the way the Deception series allowed more player agency in the silly sadism mechanics.
@Vynsent

Hey I’ve yet to play either, so those could work! 😁 They definitely seemed to flop a bit in the marketing of wild 9 forsure, I’m sure that company transition had something to do with it!

Oddly enough i did play this game back when i was a kid It was truly a bizarre feeling for me to have the game giving you the ability to hold your enemies and mess around with them like toys or dolls, i do believe it is kind of undercooked in some areas but the atmosphere, the tone and the style of the game kept it memorable enough for me to want it to find it a decade later and wanna play through the whole game again If they didn't end up making more games like this or a continuation of sorts because of the popularity of Earthworm Jim back then i understand but if it came back someday whether officially or not i wouldn't mind seeing their mechanics being touched up to work better and make it a more enjoyable experience, Speaking of EJ it did throw me off that one of the levels they straight up use a level track of that game in this but other than that and sooooorta feel like it kind of drags at times it is a worth unique experience to check out, heck maybe i'll come back and play it again this month Pretty solid video!

@Vynsent I can see how it might seem that way, especially considering the possibility that you were born anywhere between the late 90s to early 2000s. I feel like your younger audience has no real exposure to the vast library that is the entirety of the the Playstation's games, Japanese only included. Only the entry level titles that have frequented top 10 ps1 games lists are what they really know. Then again, this video may just be catering to the youngins. Damn I'm old.
