Woohoo! You’re back! Always love your videos and learning from you. You’re the best producer/guitarist that thinks through recording as I do, so I’m thankful you have a lot of videos to help me grow. You rock Sean!
Thanks, that was really cool, wellexpalined and demonstrated. It's a must have! One thing of note and I never knew this until you mentioned; No amp sounds good, without cabs! i wondered why it was so hard to get a great sound when just running through an amp sim. Not used to sims, have always miked up the real deal from drums to guitars and bass. I miss the days of tape, where it was all down to you and not great plugins. Thanks. Take care & stay safe!
Hi Sean, Thanks for your review, it gave me the opportunity to comment. Like you I prefer the days of tape, no plugs, no emulations used to recreate the sound of tape. I too learnt from actually doing and that's how we know and understand why what we're hearing isn't right. Sadly it has been years since I have had the chance to mike up anything outside of vocals and I miss it. But that experience has stood me in good stead. Virtual instruments, no matter how good they sound, how well programmed they are, still do not carry any feeling, do not truly convey the artists emotion. Sure it sounds clean, sharp, but that in turn can make it sound brittle. Please I could bring some clarity to your understanding. But in truth there is so much that we can forget that makes up the final sound, like the cabs. These things are getting lost through the use of plugs and more so through the solitary use of presets. We're not learning for ourselves how it all works, how to create our own sounds. We no longer experiment. It's grab a preset that comes close to wgat we want and that's the end of. I find myself far more often reaching for a ready made preset, instead of dialing in my own, exactly how I want it. Everyone wants to take the fastest route possibly and you can hear the downside. The Softube Celestion Speaker Shaper in regards to plugs is a good direction to go in, but nothing beats actually doing the graft for yourself. Well maybe in saving your ears, but there is now hardware that enables you to crank up the amp without blowing your ears. Even when you bother to read the manual it is amazing what things you can miss. Thanks for doing the review. Stay Safe.
Highly recommend changing the panning from stereo balance to the stereo pan with guitars. Stereo balance only turns up on side and the the other side down, so not exactly true panning like the other setting with the left and right panning parameters. Can be very useful for moving the left and right signal for sounds out of the way of other sources.
I'm curious about the technology behind this plugin. I'm sure it's not convolution because of the amount of adjustable parameters. If it's just a modeling technology plugin, it's the first good sounding cab sim plugin I've ever seen. Great review
So is modelling at a point now where it could substitute for a real amp? Guitar isn't my primary instrument but I do enjoy playing it regularly. I have an amp too but it's a bit of a process to get it all going. Because the amp is loud it tends to live in a part of the house that's pretty well noise isolated. The amp is mic'd up and I typically listen through my monitors. I find this is the only way to use it without blowing your ears. It does involve microphones and cables and preamps etc etc. If there is an easier way I'd be open to it. I tried modelling software in the past but it just doesn't do what a tube amp does unfortunately so I devised the above process. But if things have progressed technologically I might revisit the issue. There is also impulse response but I haven't heard of a guitar plugin that uses that. Only the Kemper apparently. Anyway thanks for the vide.
It seems after the initial release ( one year ago ) no one talks about this plug in. I’ve spent a fortune on amp plugins, and Im not sold on them. I use my Marshall head into a Suhr reactive load if. Best sound I’ve ever had. But I would like to know if this is really good.
