The PokéPark Duology Retrospective ~ Rawk 

seeing this old video juxtaposed with a modern one really shows how far you've come!

Pokepark 2 is one of my favorite games of all-time. While I played both these games to death when I was a kid, the time I spent in Pokepark 2 stuck with me much more. I'd love if I could play these games for the first time again. Heck, I wish I could experience the Wii as a whole for the first time again. Anyways, loved the vid. (:

Also, most important difference between these two games: The water looks nicer in Pokepark Wii. Therefore Pokepark Wii is the clear winner here.

never heard of this in all my life but dang i wanna play

I had like, the complete opposite history and therefore feelings as you about these games. Pokepark2 was my first and still my very favorite Pokemon game. It’s more grandiose nature while playing as a character so small in the world gave me this huge feeling of accomplishment whenever I was able to get past something that was roadblocking me. (Especially with the characterizations of Oshawott, Snivy and Tepig really emphasizing the “wanting to prove themselves to their superiors” trope) The music would never work in Pokepark Wii, but it feels so perfect for Pokepark2. And this may sound scandalous but I honestly did not care about the minigames at all. They’re fun timewasters trying to befriend all the legendaires in Pokepark Wii (which I also did btw) but what really makes me love these games so much is the presentation of the areas, and the characters. Befriending is fun because I like seeing what kind of personality each Pokemon has, not because I can experience the wagony torchic edition TM. So the fact that there are less minigames doesn’t bother me. Although I feel because there are less, the quality of the minigames is much higher, which does make me wish there were perhaps 1 or 2 more. The 2D challenges also feel like minigame stand-ins, which I’m perfectly fine with as they’re really interesting (but sometimes stressful). Charmander Chikorita and Piplup didn’t really feel like Pikachu’s best friends in a game entirely built around friendship, whereas I feel like found family with the Gen5 gang. (And this is not Pokemon bias. Piplup is my favorite Pokemon because of the intro to this game and he’s barely in it at all) I completely understand why someone would prefer the more relaxed nature of PokePark 1. It fits the vibe of what the PokePark *is.* But the connections made to the characters in PokePark 2, even just minor reoccurring ones makes it feel so much more like a game about overcoming the barrier between us and reuniting the park with friendship. Which is more my jam in this scenario. Also the Pikachu flip is really cool but distracting to the point it made me nauseous during my playthrough of Pokepark Wii. It’s sad but definitely the right call to remove it
