Over A year Ago I started Researching the orgins of johto, what I found blew me away. this information has never been made public by Pokemon, But As I began to dissect these games, Everything began to connect. I'ts been 20 years now, We will likely never get a definitive Answer. But this is without a doubt the closest we have come.

patreon.com/BlueBoyPhin Thank you for watching this video, it took so much out of us to create, many long nights of talking, editing, didnt sleep hardly any for the days up until we posted. This is our magnum opus of a video, and we can do it again. we are still in japan writing the script for the next video about to set off to the next location. But we desperately want to make this happen without sponsors on the videos, so we have created a patreon, where we will be sharing behind the scenes, deleted scenes from this video, and so much extra footage of our adventure's and a lot more, I have always wanted to do a patreon but i never felt like i had something to really give back but I want this to be a new era for pokemon discoveries and we are just getting started. we have so much more information im dying to share. but I want every video with to be carried with care and I want to tell these stories through our lens and give them the human effort they deserve. If you are in the place where you can comfortably support these future videos, we would love to bring more to you. Thank you regardless for watching this. it really was made by 2 people giving it their true hard work and love.

@@Landshark583 That’s just how having feelings for someone _works_ dude. It isn’t logical. Being a little older and looking out for her future makes things _too logical,_ but still understandable. There are ways to look at it beyond the one that says “woe is me.” Just because the girl in question isn’t doing it with YOU doesn’t mean she isn’t doing what she thinks is right for her. And i’m saying this as a dude who has lost a couple girls in his day to dudes that I thought were scum. In the end, people learn from failures and bad experiences. So let’s chat. Who hurt you, bro?

It's a fantastic documentary with an amazingly heartfelt message, a lot of small, fun situations (you running while saying "these are some of the biggest spiders I've EVER seen was 100% relatable lol) and with a ton of super interesting information. Thank you. Subbed, and looking forward to anything else you put out.

growing up in a place that a pokemon region is based on, for me being alola, you get a completely unique experience of exploring those regions and the details and love put into the games by the creators to show respect to them. i loved being able to connect places in Alola to real places in Hawaii on an almost 1:1 map, reliving childhood adventures and mystery through the lens of little monsters who want to be my friends. I can only dream of that experience for the other pokemon regions, and hope it brings the same joy to others. truly incredible and beautiful video that resonated with me deeply, i really want to visit japan one day to tour different locations that pokemon games were inspired by. your editing and filming enhanced the experience so much and made me tear up by the end. I can't believe this is only an episode 1!

This brought back a feeling i haven’t felt for a long time. ive been playing a game that took so much place in my heart its truly terrifying in a good way😅. It truly amazing how the creators of these games really aimed toward the heart of the player without making it intentional. This video has reinforced my love for Gen 2. I still listen to the National Park theme when I am just looking to remove myself from the stressors of adult life. I'm 29 and I've been through some shit. Widowed. Homelessness. Physical abuse from in-laws. This game has been my constant escape since I was 7 years old. I replace the batteries in my original Silver/Gold/Crystal copies to this day, to keep some inkling of my childhood alive. It means so much to truly learn how much this game meant to someone - that they had to put THIS much time, attention, and care into weaving its story, and telling its tale of the Land of the Rising Sun. With strings of words, numbers, and a reverence for their homeland, they forged unbreakable steel. Goddamn. You got me tearing tf up!

there's not much to say about Pokemon anymore. Endless videos on youtube talk about the games to exhaustion and, thanks to code deconstruction, there's basically nothing about the games we don't know. I replayed Soulsilver recently, thinking it was my least favorite region for a long time. My personal adventure had me realizing how much Kanto and Johto resemble real world Japan, the differences of Kanto Urban Wildlife differed from Johto's Countryside Wildlife with bears, owls, and deer mixed with the classics. The NPCs, even without the touch of the regional dialect, were fun to talk to, and the historical aspect of Johto was subtle yet deeply intergraded with the land itself. I got Raikou straight out the Burned Tower and she was a big member of my team, and this is when I decided to bite the bullet and shiny hunt the box legendaries, ending me with a Love Ball Shiny Lugia and Friend Ball Shiny Ho-oh which had pretty basic nicknames like Sakura and Ginko to represent opposing seasons. And this only made me love the region more. It's not in your face about legends and myths. It's something you have to uncover yourself while the main story about Team Rocket's return ensues. Now knowing what the Ruins of Alph were and how deeply connected it is to Ho-oh itself, I really love their inclusion now! Not to mention the video and presentation of this is STELLAR! You went above and beyond! I'm sharing it with all my Poketuber buddies because they need to see your work.

I used to live on Awaji Island, the real life equivalent to Johto's Whirl Islands. The island divides the Seto Inland Sea from the Pacific Ocean. The inland sea has a slightly higher water level than the Pacific, which creates perpetual whirlpools where the two meet. They have short boat tours where you can see them up close. The island's most famous deities are Izanagi and Izanami. The legend goes that Izanagi, from the heavens, dipped his spear into the waters and whirled them up, and when he pulled it out, the crystallized droplets that fell became the islands of Japan. For that reason, Awaji Island is considered to be the origin island, and there is a famous shrine to Izanagi located there. It's a really cool place and worth spending a day or two there if you take a trip to Japan.

And I emphasize the “pokémon-related” part, as this documentary feels more as a way of describing the futile endeavor of life trying to preserve itself, to say “I was here”, and that in itself might indirectly be the inspiration behind Unown’s existance. “I was and I felt, I want to share it with you”. Simply amazing storytelling

Old man here. Gold was the last pkm game I owned. Some jerk in elementary school stole it and my parents refused to get me another pokemon game after that. To say I loved that game would be a massive understatement. This video made me cry. It gave me some closure. I still remember pokemon mania at its prime. I still remember watching the very first episode of the cartoon. All that I can vividly remember is the AMAZING opening, and the shot of ho-oh (then a total mystery) flying away. Geologist checking in here. First things first, I just want to say this was a really awesome video. Pokemon Silver is my favorite video game and it’s so cool to hear about the real world places that inspired it. Nice job! I can also help clarify a few things. (1) At 00:00:31 you meant geographically not geologically. (2) The stone markings you start showing around 00:22:25 are most definitely naturally occurring. The dark parts are mafic inclusions (also called mafic enclaves or xenoliths) set in a lighter colored granitic stone block. Basically the darker parts are pieces of older rocks into which a lighter colored and younger granitic rock intruded as a magma. The magma mixed and melted away most of the older dark rock, but the dark pieces here remained cool and relatively intact during the magma mixing. Then it all cooled together underground and was eventually cut into the blocks you see now. A lot of them are so wiggly and flown looking because they were super hot and ductile when they formed and got pushed around and smeared by the magma. It is the energy of the earth!

I remember people being shocked when I told them (people) I could read Unown, and I remember feeling how...real this place had felt to me. Even now 20 years after the fact. Hearing this justified a large amount of feelings that had never been understood or acknowledged by others. The kids and adults around those real life ruins no doubt have lived their whole lives feeling the same thing for different reasons. That's what makes this all so special. Game Freak wanted us to know that feeling, to understand and be curious, and feel alive as you look at Unown and pursue the bigger picture of life and its meanings. You might not find an answer, but you do find something just as, if not even more profound and fulfilling trying. Thank you for this. I can't wait for Episode 2.
