The Police performing Invisible Sun at the 6/15/86 Amnesty International Conspiracy of Hope concert at Giants Stadium. Bono joins them for the last verse.
Great moment in history for fellow Police fans. they had bitterly parted ways ~2 years prior to this gig, and Sting had released Dream of the Blue turtles a few months prior. It was up in the air whether Sting, Andy, Stewart would re-unite for this gig... till' the curtains opened, and the crowd went nuts. I was a freshman in highschool when this aired on the radio. I recorded the U2 set as well as the Police performance. Thanks for sharing this rare footage
The best rockers of the last years . wonderfull , I love police and u2 . I saw live 2 times police 84-07 and 3 times u2 85-91-93. Nothing is better them . Hey hey may may rock and roll can never die .
need not fight over who's the bet between sting & bono. they are AWESOME & considered as LEGENDS & GENIUSES!!! To just see them perform together is nothing but AMAZING! It's a rare treat that we all have to appreciate. ;)
the police were broken up for two years up to this point, right after the synchronicity tour ended in 1984. this was a one-off, short-lived reunion for amnesty international in 1986.
That was awesome I remember when the Police came out with Synchronicity and U2 with Boy and War , Definite torch passing going on here, Could you imagine being there in the crowd, musical history, not quite Jimmy Hendrix at Woodstock but a great moment
Exactly! It's Police and U2 playing a song together...Bono and Sting, two of the greatest singers ever, singing an awesome song together. People should just enjoy the freaking song and the video. If they want to debate politics, then they can go to a political forum.
I was at this show. However, my most vivid memory was that A) Townshend who was supposed to be there canceled at the last minute because his father had taken ill (or even died. Don't remember) and B) Yoko Ono singing ruining the "buzz" that my friends and I had. Actually, I think I was a little scared hearing her sing - along with the rest of my section!
"Bono has more range altough Sting's voice is unique." Au Contraire! Bono's voice is certainly unique. Who else out there sounds like him? For the record, my wife likes U2's music, and whenever a song of theirs comes on in the vehicle she doesn't realize it's them until he starts singing. The Police and U2 are unique all around.
LOL!!! Yoko booed off the stage!!! I was there too... another highlight was the "Last" Police show (supposedly they only reunited for the tour) for quite a long time
Boyohboy! Sting is a grand singer, no doubt, and I have been a fan of police for decades. But to see Bono step up there and add a whole other dimension to the song blows my mind completely! Sounds pompous, but I consider this to be one of those moments in the history of modern music...
police handing their instruments to U2 as a symbolic passing of the torch. the biggest band in the world passing the baton to the new biggest band in the world.
@adebicki Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. There are songs I dislike from both these artists but also a great many that will never be forgotten. It is my belief they have 2 of the most distinctive and most easily recognised voices in rock and roll history. Just my opinion and thanks for keeping your reply decent.
Sting and Bono are excellent writers that can really bare their teeth on political matters. This song is a perfect fit for both. It's funny how the haters here have poor grammar and punctuation.
Yeah!!! Summers rocks!!! In my case i think all the police members are leyends alive! Stieng is a great composer, copeland has that particular the police sound drum i love and i thaink particulary ws summers who installed in the band that reggea style....
Does anyone get how serious this moment was? The IRA and England were hot (I lived through it) and that is what the song is about. Bono was heavily involved in the IRA so this was a FU to Sting. Can't you see the anger?!
Thank youi very much for posting this. Do you happen to have the other songs they played during their set at that concert? They started with Message In Bottle, and then: King Of Pain, Driven To tears, Every Breath You Take, Roxanne, Invisible Sun, I Shall Be Released.
If that was the case, why did either man stand beside eachother and sing the same song? A song I believe by listening to the lyrics was meant for all sides... but your comment does raise some thought...
@bababoum I almost agree with u,but listen to track 4 on synchronicity........and for that reason its going to have to be Bono and the boys for me! Sting only wanted to sing songs he'd written thats the main reason they split.
Is the original banned on RU-vid? I just heard about it for the first time (maybe I heard about it long ago, but I don't remember). The Police were one of my favs from the 80s (U2 as well).
I think after 12 years this deserves an answer. Yes it was Adam Clayton from U2. This was a famous moment as it was regarded as a passing of the torch. U2 went on to release the Joshua Tree and the rest is history!
