Classic song, classic group, the best trio in the world. The best drummer, the unique sound of Andy Summers, and Sting's songwriting, vocals and bass playing. You'll NEVER get a trio as good as this.
pure quality, pure perfection. Sometimes I wish they hadnt reformed, sometimes I'm glad they did. I dunno. They are certainly one of the best groups that ever walked this planet.
One of the best tracks from The Police. I've seen Sting do it 5 times live as a solo artist. Now I've got tickets for The Police 2007 tour I cant wait to hear the best band in the world live. Thank god they reformed, even if it is just for one tour.
ahhhh 'Regatta de Blanc' this album is so classic. This album was one of their very best and so underated in so many ways. If you really want to hear some amazing music by the Police buy this CD...it epitomizes their uniquness.
To me, this song epitomizes The Police more then, say, their later pop hits. Is it reggae, jazz, punk or pop? These three band-mates were truly original.
Steward Copeland played the drums, Andy Summer played the guitar and yes it sounds totally awesome how he used the arpegios of the classic guitar on this song, sounds plain beautiful.
I always liked this period of the police live the best. The had their sets down and sounding great, and didn't over do it like they did with Synchronicity.
Would be great to see the full song. Such a great, great group. Everyone should read Andy Summers new book. I just finished it and it was a joy to read.
Sin ninguna duda, la grandeza de Ceratti està tambièn en haber adaptado maravillosamente este tema, mejorarlo no sòlo en calidad vocal sino en algo mas importante que es darle la emoción necesaria para que nos llegue adentro de cada uno!
Sting was suffering from voice problems during this leg of the tour. This appears to be Japanese TV? Sting's laryngitis is documented in the 1982 film, "The Police Around The World." Regatta/Zenyatta was their musical peak as a unit - this is good stuff.
Very true! The earliest recording of this song was with Last Exit, before Sting. The name of the song is called Carrion Price. Look it up here. MrBuzzAldrin has it. He also has Fool in Love(So Lonely) trevor
I know this very well hehe-love you hon and am glad you got to see them (I saw them last year in '07 US Airways Center Phoenix and Sting's son Joe Sumner & Fiction Plane opened for them-that was an awesome night and I also got a free compilation CD of their greatest hits too! ;-))
His range on the records was so impossibly high as to be brittle when he sung live. Now he's so much older and his voice has mellowed so he has to sing in a different key to accomodate that.
I was a little disappointed they didn't do this song in Philly either. Bring on the Night is a song Sting recorded as a solo act. As far as I know they aren't doing any solo stuff on this tour. It's strictly The Police. Regardless the performance was top notch and Sting's son's band isn't half bad either.
An Argentinian music called Gustavo Cerati, made a cover of this song with the production of copeland and andy summers. They called him to made this cover because they knew him from soda stereo, the greatest band of all the times in spanish rock. After recording this song, they offer Cerati to join them, because they want him to be the voice of The police during a world tour. Cerati didn´t accept because he was just separate of soda stereo. Cerati´s song is called "traeme la noche"
camilo194: That's a bit short-sighted, IMO. Vinnie would probably be the first to admit that Copeland has possibly the most unique style in rock drumming history. And Copeland's also a huge part of the Police sound. Vinnie just doesn't have the energy or "slam" or as much feel as Copeland, either, though he's certainly blessed with his own style, own attitude behind the kit, and definitely a GIANT bag of tricks.
i recomend you to listen some songs of soda stereo. They are brilliant. The problem is that their songs are in spanish, that why they never became famous in europe. Only in spain! they started en 1983 and they separate the band in 1997. Last year they made a tour all over america.

They themselves give credit to reggae for their sound. If you listen to reggae, and not just Marley, you will hear a lot of similar production quality and sound. Not arguing, just saying.
@jerseyjamrock From Argentina!!
Cerati's version is more elaborated. He's the one of the greatest guitar players and rock composers. Watch some of the solos in the Me Veras Volver concert. Good bye and good luck.
SamakiBass,You have just given a few exceptions. The 90's was after all a whole ten year period. But hey man I was just in a bipolar mood so ignore me. Got to remember not give my opinions.
Yeah, they were great, but I'm kinda glad I missed the Synchronicity tour, arrrrr. Live versions are always better if you already know the song. Is there a guitar player named Steward somewhere? Thanks for the vid.
Like much in music, it's not difficult to play it 90 percent correctly. It's that additional 10 percent that's much harder, and where the true differences between "perfect" and "almost" are illuminated. I agree that BOTN's guitar part is not difficult to play in a "passable" way, but to play it as Andy actually does... quite different, IMO.
la verdad que la version de cerati es mucho mejor. No es por desmerecer a the police, pero la de gustavo esta muchisimo mas laburada. Digna de un genio como es el
