The riff sounds so much better live than on the record, much more punch to it. On the record it sounds like it’s in the background even when it isolated in the intro at the start
Aled Hopkins very true. On the recording it’s not as prominent. But there’s a version of the song on one of their greatest hits albums called “new classic rock mix” where the guitar is louder.
A lot of comments here regarding who did or didn't do what on this track...this is an awesome track...all of you arm-chair-rockers, I'd love to see YOU playing this track under these conditions. IMO they nailed it and Copeland's playing is fantastic #ItsNotPopMusic
I agree. The "armchair attitude" is a product of the social media era. The tiniest details are magnified and dramatised, with mostly vane and futile motivations... Andy, Stewart and Sting had indeed some floating moments here with the tempo, but so what? They needed this song to "break the stage in", which is a normal thing even for experienced stage performers. Real music is getting pushed out of our world by synthetic sh*t, so let's celebrate projects featuring real musicians playing actual instruments. If the youth finds a way to enjoy such music, then there might still be hope.
@@brianhossner2826Rush fans are always in the comment sections of the Police videos to make comparisons...Never the opposite...Inferiority complex? The Police the one and only...
When you see a guy show up wearing a sweatband, gloves, and wielding a tam tam mallet like it's a fucking weapon you know he means business. Stewart is an animal!
Not a bad performance. Message In A Bottle is my favorite Police song. So I don`t care how sloppy Stewart Copeland`s drumming was on that concert. It`s still my favorite song. Long live The Police, forever!
A lot of double tracking on the studio drum version, nothing wrong with this rendition at all, they were in their fifties and sixties here, ffs. Get a grip.
Me cansé de esperar un mensaje tuyo en una botella, en un mail, o en un sms...ahora espero que alguien reciba mi mensaje en una botella...te amo Karen...
ok u guys know the guitarist. used to play with jimmy page many other yes andy summers. and u do know stewart. copeland the. drummmmerrr. is listed as one of the best in the world. ok enough said GO BLESS
Joseph Chapman didn’t just play with page, played with Clapton for a bit and jammed with Hendrix when he came to England for the first time, and was in the Animals for a short while, dude has been around...
I see people commenting about the tempo changing and being "all over the place" throughout the song and thats true but it is very hard to keep the tempo if you play a song as difficult(On The drums) as this(Especially if you don't have metronome), Stewart is awesome and did a great performance here!:)
Wrong word, i meant his meter is not solid sometimes. I saw an interview where he said it himself that he has a problem rushing the songs sometimes. I can really hear it on Message in a bottle live in Atlanta on that double CD.
The audio on this track is sort of a mess. I mean, everything is louder than everything else. And I love a Strat, but it just have that same bite on this tune as his Tele does.
This is wild and must have been towards the end of the tour. It sounds rushed at the start & Andy's playing is a bit off kilter. They're still one of the best bands ever, but this is them having a cold start vibe.
Yeah, on this arrangement of the song, Andy comes in first and sets the tempo. However, Stewart is pushing the tempo forward too fast and that's why Sting got annoyed. Not Andy's fault, though. Stewart is one of the best rock drummers ever but if he has a fault it's that he gets too hyper at the beginning of a concert and takes a while to settle in.
Fuck YEAH! With a capital "PH".... As Andy Summers says, the LAST of the great 1960's bands. ALL they REALLY needed was the two black chick singers standing on the side chewing gum singing the "ooh-oohs" and they might've amounted to something! I gotta throw in Dire Straights there too, these two (and then SRV) at least made the "classic rock" radio stations bearable.
Something about Copeland just disappoints me at times. He's a great drummer, but a fair few performances he seems to lose the groove. I've even seen it where Andy has turned & given him 'the look' as if to say 'Slow down a bit mate!'. I know how he drums is very difficult & unique but he just doesn't always cut it 'live'. IMHO.
Yeah I agree. Normally Stewart's a click track when he plays but here he seems to be like he's on something, even Sting and Andy. They're still a tight unit though. Live in Tokyo 2008 is awesome.
Both Copeland and Summers both lose the beat on several occasions. Great in the studio but miserable live. Best version is Live at Irving Plaza (2011 remix). Sting at his best.
They are amazing, and I love steward, but his playing here is very sloppy, and of balance, to fast. I love steward copeland, he is a legend, but really don ´t like is performance here
