The Orzel was a Polish submarine that escaped the 1939 Nazi Germany invasion of Poland at the beginning of World War Two. Her journey began in Poland and took her to Estonia, where she and her crew escaped being interned by the Estonians at the behest of the Nazis. After her escape, she sailed through the Baltic Sea, dodging German air and naval forces, and fled to the United Kingdom. After a refitting, she continued her fight against the Nazis off the coast of Norway, where she almost uncovered the Nazis' invasion of Norway before it even began.

Something which escapes presentations like this one. Polish Navy was created to oppose Soviet Navy on the Baltic. It was clear to Polish Admiralty that opposing Germans (even demilitarised Kriegsmarine) is a futile task. Plans for acquiring submarines were started just after the war with Soviet Union 1920. It was clear that Poland needs independent port and means to defend it. Submarines were designed for one type of operation. Create blockade between Gotland and Lithuania, lay mines and torpedo all Soviet Ships incoming from Leningrad. This is why Subs were fast, caring substantial load of torpedoes, at the cost of limited range. This is interesting as after the war communist propaganda tried to hide the fact that the boats were build specifically to confront Red Fleet. Communists were proclaiming that these were a oceanic subs completely unfit for Baltic Sea, bought as a vanity act of a stupid government.

Poland is slowly being discovered by the West. It's a country of pretty crszy people - challenged only by the Finns - just look at the national sport, a form of motor sport that uses bikes with… no brakes. That property means Poles can act extremely quickly and in organized manner. Currently the nation has emerged as the fire brigade of Europe. The other face is the Witcher, but that's another story.

Not discourage the making of content like this, but your recent surge in attention might be evaporating due to content mismatch. or something else? IDK…

The whole justification for WW2 was for "Polish sovereignty," which was complete and utter BS and in the end, the war aim gradually drifted to "well, it's to remove those evil nazis" while loosing Poland to the Soviets. The Soviets were worse than the Nazis in every conceivable way. Their body count is WAY larger. We joined forces with the 2nd worst leader of the 20th century and THE worst leader of the 20th century (possibly the worst leader in world history), Mao Zedong (well, at least indirectly. Though Mao did not hold formal power before 47, everyone knew once the war was over, Mao and his communists were going to be a major problem) . Both Stalin and Mao deliberately caused famines killing many 10s of millions of souls. Both wars were supposedly to make the world safe for "self determination and democracy" and both failed in the most spectacular fashion. WW1 made the world safe for Fascism, WW2 made the world safe for Communism. BOTH produced less "self determination" and less "democracy!!!" NOW, we are talking about another *war* directly traceable to WW2, which is the China Taiwan situation. Worst, the second world war turned the US from a relatively normal country to a world empire of neoliberalism. The impact on both the world (in terms of the US) and internally in the US really cannot be overstated. FDR built up the federal government into a monstrosity that long outlasted him. To this day we have like 200 bases around the world and meddle in the business of every country in the damned world. We have been on nonstop wars of aggression ever since. We have bombed or invaded so many countries since WW2 that it's hard to keep track.

Czechoslovakia was created at the end of WW1 as was Poland. Both of these countries got huge amounts of Germany's land. Austria voted to join Germany in 1938. Germany was right in what they did with these countries.

These lands were occupied by Germans for shorter period of time then Slavic settlements there. Just to make it clear - there is no Germany before unification done by Prussia which was a vassal state to Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

@@slawomirkulinski It's not like they were independent states and that is the point.
