I think most people are conservative as well as liberal in most things. I doubt the majority is ALL liberal or ALL conservative on all the things. I'm sure he had conservative views as well as liberal and progressive ones, perhaps more left than most other people, but being called a conservative is no insult in my book, it depends on what you mean by it. People on the left should not do the same thing many right wingers do and just brush over the opposition and say "they" are all lunatics and bad people, you (general 'you') don't win people over with that kind of talk.

We had an MLK assembly at my school because it’s all an black school, and it was pretty terrible to see how whitewashed it was. There was soooo much talk about how he was religious, how he had a dream, how he had fought for racial justice. Almost NO mention of his fight for economic justice or his socialist sympathies or how he was anti-war and anti-rich and wanted to unite black and white workers and fight a class struggle. That’s the part that even liberals like to forget about MLK. It was pretty sad to see all of that excluded.

Today socialists never focus on MLK Jr Christianity on how he used it for civil rights protests. "I do not believe in the thesis of capitalism or the antithesis of communism but in a synthesis where the good in both come together." - MLK
@ionezgb
@ionezgb 5 лет назад
To better understand this quote you need to know about Marxist dialectical materialism. Dialectics is a process explained as a union of the opposites and how they conflict in order to reach equilibrium. That's how Marx came to his form of socialism. He looks at capitalism as *thesis* and communism(classless, stateless and moneyless society) as *anti-thesis*. During some extent of time these ideas clash and result is neither capitalism nor communism but Marx proposed it is socialismor lower stage communism as he called it(*synthesis*) . Socialism, in Marxist terms, is a point in history where state is dominated by working class(dictatorship of proletariat) instead of previous phase(capitalism) where state was dominated by bourgeois capitalist class. After that socialism would become thesis and communism anti-thesis and during time we would be closer and closer to communism. This quote by Marthin Luther King don't mean that he advocated for "mixed-economy" or social democracy. He was a Marxist and he advocated for abolition of capitalism and not for reforming it. NOTE: I'm no expert in philosophy so my explanation of dialectics may not be textbook definition.
@threedragonstalk2123
@threedragonstalk2123 5 лет назад
@@ionezgb Marx was a socialist only insofar as it was a bridge to communism. The dictatorship of the proletariat existed to Marx only as a transitional stage towards communism, which made Marx a communist. MLK however was a socialist, not a communist. As the quote clearly says he was not interested in creating an outright communistic state (i.e: one without government, complete and total economic equality, no money, just free sharing of goods as needed). MLK just wanted to nationalize the economy enough to eliminate poverty. Big difference.

Taras Ivashchuk not sure where your opinion resonates from? No data from any trial in any area of the world supports this claim. Real life examples of this such as Alaska’s oil dividend which goes directly to the people of Alaska show this claim to be false. You are correct there are additional issues such as fractional reserve banking which causes inflation or the greatest tax ever known to man, but the Idea that UBI isn’t the first step to creating a world that works for us instead of seeing people as just some economic input to some number that we all will find meaningless on our death beds is just ignorant and short sighted. It is literally the floor you build upon. The foundation you build your house of humanity on. It will allow people the freedom of choice for their own pursuits. And is the best way of giving some quantifiable number to the unrewarded work being done every single day that GDP isn’t rewarding. This isn’t some socialist vs capitalist argument - that’s about whether the government controls capital or companies do. This is about starting to give people the means to figure it out on their own.

This and the GoFundMe segment are superb. You did a fantastic job. I've never head this about MLK and it definitely makes sense why it's not taught much. Even in college I never had any of my teachers bring up MLKs political ideals. He would have fit right in in so many of my classes and he makes so much sense. He was the ultimate threat to establishment politics, and I see why Bernie marched with him.

Thank you Kyle... You are 100% correct. I really appreciate your video today... it really helps me personally. I was 10 yrs old when MLK Jr led a march into my all white neighborhood on the southwest side of Chicago... Appalling and disgraceful violent behavior met a peaceful and very courageous group of marchers led by Martin Luther King Jr that day. As a kid, I was so impressed with this man and the degree to which he was able to inspire people to embrace a path of higher consciousness in the face of actual violence and menace. He taught and showed people who were powerless that they did have power individually and collectively if they could find the courage to embrace it and act upon it... He was an unbelievably amazing human being and the greatest leader and visionary that this country has produced in my lifetime. He faced death many times. MLK's assassination was devastating blow to this country and the world. I still grieve this loss of this person even though it was a half century ago. So, I do thank you for remembering this great Soul... it helps.

'And one day we must ask the question, “Why are there forty million poor people in America?” And when you begin to ask that question, you are raising a question about the economic system, about a broader distribution of wealth. When you ask that question, you begin to question the capitalistic economy. And I'm simply saying that more and more, we've got to begin to ask questions about the whole society. We are called upon to help the discouraged beggars in life's marketplace. But one day we must come to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring. It means that questions must be raised. And you see, my friends, when you deal with this you begin to ask the question, “Who owns the oil?” You begin to ask the question, “Who owns the iron ore?” You begin to ask the question, “Why is it that people have to pay water bills in a world that's two-thirds water?” These are words that must be said.' - MLK

Tonight at work I quoted (well..paraphrased...) MLK. "Do not let any man lower you to the place where you hate him." Consider that carefully. He believed in transcendent love. Was he deeply flawed? Of course. As I am, as you are, as all God's children are. I miss the profound dignity of MLK who was murdered when I was 9 years old. He shamed us with his dignity and honesty. Yes, they killed him. Yes, they obscured and distorted the fundamental decency and beauty he gave to all of us who were starving for the words he spoke. To touch the Holy Grail is to die. He did not merely touch it, he grasped it and empowered by it, spoke.

The real news network actually posted a speech he did on Vietnam yesterday. Listening to it was just... I would absolutely recommend everyone give it a listen. "MLK documentary: when silence becomes betrayal." Edit: fair warning though, _reverend_ MLK jr. Was a pastor. It's hard to remember that if you've never actually listened to his speeches before, but his faith very much was a part of him. So expect religious references fairly often.

Great post! This is my first time commenting on your channel. Learned your name via The Jimmy Dore Show and been watching your clips for about a week. Interestingly, one of the few other people I've heard mention MLK's economic+foreign philosophies is also Jimmy Dore. He also talked about Malcom X. Main point I recall was his mistrust of the Democratic Party. He had a great metaphor, but basically he knew it was easy to hate Republicans, but that Democratics knew they had little alternative but them.

It's not a matter of redistribution of wealth, it's a matter re-assigning value to industries. Supply and demand has gone unchecked, mostly because it's based on human emotion. "I want" instead of "I need" has replaced the basic drive for survival.
