I am so impressed by Steve’s skill of bending metal. Good lord , that piece that covers the heater pipe is so intricate and he makes it look like a walk in the park.
thanks for showing the full sequence and how you adjust, check, adjust, make a new piece when it was too short, adjust etc. so simple and relaxed as you work through your process. inspiring.
7:50 - This car has led a very hard life... I can't believe there is another layer of metal added there as well. You're the man to fix it though, no doubt about that! Watching the tin-top transformation will be something else, good luck.
I love the way that Steve uses flat plate, basic tools and years of experience to create complex shapes, he makes it look so easy, the sign of a true craftsman!!!
Watching you Steve is fascinating having made templates and turned them into repair panels is so satisfying . You sir deserve all the good comments .👍🏻👏👏
Steve, work on the heater tube and that section of inner panel is pure art! It will be nice to finally see invisible work about done and start on more outer panels to get the car closer to what it was originally!😁
Mr Steve, the repairs to the outer sill, sorry maybe it was the inner sill, and heating pipe back there were top notch craftsmanship. Congratulations. Thanks for showing us the work. I watched the whole thing at 0,25 x speed and enjoyed.
Wow the work. On this. Granted a coupe is favored often by Porsche folks but splicing a sunroof on a targa and then deleting the sunroof omg This blows my Mind. The repair costs must be over the top. You clearly are a committed individual! Nice work!
This work is so good. You make the metal talk to you. I have been a fitter welder for over 30 years. I am so inpressed. It's a pleasure watching first class work. Thankyou and we'll done
Your skill level is so high Steve, it is impressive. One thing is to bend the metal but finding out how to bend it and cut it the right way to make a panel is hard. Good job mate. I wish I was half as good as you are.
Such craftsmanship Steve! I’m struggling to stop myself buying a fixer upper just to bring it to you for you to fix it! Knowing me id buy a basket case thats a bigger job than Ryan’s disaster Datsun.
Hi Steve I’m in awe of your work watching you work out problems bending cutting shaping truly a professional Of great skill and ability I could do with calling to get my car looked at! A bit of a drive I’m not as young has I used to be and I find driving short distances a crippler and I’ve been everywhere having been a wagon driver most of my life, 54 years retired at 68 after a nasty fall at a customers premises!
Ambitious ! How much extra structure is there in the floor section in a Targa compared to a tin roof ? I think it will end up to be a very rigid car. By the way, very nice work. 👌 Hint, you can add piece of flex metal tube in the heat channel before assembly to keep it more tight. Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰
I only had one problem with this build… it’s a Targra! When I saw the tin roof I thought cool, but it would be even better without a sunroof… I’m happy now!
Wow Steve!...If the 911 wasn't a tough enough gig already now you have to put a roof on!! 😲😲....Must admit though it's the right way to go, as much as I love the 911 I was never a huge fan of the Targa Top version.....Love watching you work and the skills you have! 👍👍
Its just mind blowing what you guys take on. I just absolutely love your channel and what you achieve. I would love to come and visit you both and your workshop. Well done 👏 👌👍
Steve how long was your apprenticeship and how many years experience have you got now? you have taught me so much so thankyou. Your a bit of a genius with metal. thanks for all the content.
Again, joining the watch late, but I did not see the roof coming! I hope the chassis was free or personal to the owner, as I think it would be cheaper start with one less rusty!
Hi Steve, I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and there's been a very noticeable development in the quality of your work, which is impressive seeing as you're expanding the business at the same time 👍 Can I ask what type of belts you use on the finger sander? I thought I'd bought some Norton ones off ebay but they last seconds for when it comes to finishing off mig welds!
At 21.30 in the video any armchair critics should've been silenced! Nice metal dressing, rare to see this much attention to detail. Good work Steve, you are an artisan 👏
Finally someone's getting the ducks in a row! A Porsche Targa is wrong. ALL wrong! A proper Porsche is the one with a fixed roof! You'll never get the proper driving dynamics in a floppy roof. (Still slightly envious, either way a fixed or a Targa top... ;-) )
"So I have this really rusty Targa Top and I want to make it into a hard top." Normal guys; " Don't bother, just go find yourself a hard top." Yorkshire guys; " Hold my cup of tea." (Yorkshire Tea of course.)
I'd love to see how you delete the sunroof. On my TR7 FHC I joddled a part roof panel and bonded it in with sikaflex 4720. If you can weld it without shrinkage I'll be very jealous.....
will this need to go thru type-approval for radically-altered? I know it's very hard to do this when you are taking away parts of the structure (saloon to pick-up or convertible for example) but as you are adding a roof it's a bit different 🤷♂
Sooooo really not much original material left of that car then when new roof, dash, rear deck is welded in… It would have been awesome to have an ‘Expensive Porsche Rust’ box as well!🤣✌️🤘🇨🇦
Steve - go get yourself a Vires welding mask. They're absolutely cheap as chips, under 60 snots, ought be garbage for the money, weigh nothing and.... damn... pal chucked one at me the other day going "Oi, Lanky, try this...keep it, thank me later" You couldn't pry it out of my cold dead hands it's that good. The lightness.... the clarity.... the sheer lack of faffy bits... Thank me later if you get one. :-)
