Print is well on its way out. Postmedia is now asking print customers to switch to e-paper digital subscription as they are planning to shut down print facilities in a cost cutting effort. No date has been set on the full switchover, but once there are enough customers switched to digital, the printing plants will begin to shut down in all of the major dailies. (Ottawa, London, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, etc..)
They're bleeding money and making cutbacks for essentially every paper that they own and their total readership represent a small percentage of Canadian media consumption. This doesn't seem like the time to be buying up more papers when almost all of their current acquisitions aren't in order and their local papers especially are struggling to maintain relevance as print solely fades out of existence.
