HAHAHAHAHAHA I'm rewatching game of thrones, so I'm also rewatching GoT YT videos.. and your comment STILL has me rolling 7 years later 🤣🤣🤣 I laughed so hard when I read it 😂
But, the part where he tells less movement means more power, it necessary is not true. When you are challenging someone or being challenged sure less movement means you are reacting less to the other person, but in general more movement means comfort and charisma.
Other power moves: 1- never ask permission! 2- make yourself so independent that you don’t need them 3- make yourself indispensable 4- power is in the way you stare, your voice, your walk, your posture. 5- you must have courage to be powerful 6- have the courage to walk away from what doesn’t serve you. 7- have strong boundaries.
No. 4 is natural for me but at first I don't understand why people are tiptoeing when I'm around and I don't exploit my natural gift because I don't like people feel not comfortable with me but now I realize and know how to use it to get people respect instead of fear or intimidation.
But the things I cannot control keeps ruining the very thing I can control, which means, try to find another strategy to neuter and deal with it instead of avoiding it.
@@MarchAngeloPAlino That's my problem. I have no complete control over how people keep on trampling over my rights as a person, but I do have a *little* bit of control still. However, that lack of control makes me really stressed out because I'm trying to fix it, but it's so difficult and the things I do to try to fix it keeps on failing. So I'm a bit lost.
Right, go to a job interview and say "well why should I work for this company? What makes this a good fit for me?" I'm sure they will admire your importance
Tyrion's power is an entirely different type of power though. He's smart, calculated, and can get on good terms with pretty much anyone. Tywin commands power and makes many enemies in the process, which is why he's dead and Tyrion isn't.
On a relatively off-topic note, Jack Gleeson is an extraordinary actor. So few people could pull off Joffrey that fantastically, turning even the tiniest of lines or gesture into an opportunity to reinforce the core personality traits of pettiness and spite. I'm definitely looking forward to the next show or movie that stars him.
@@systemofafox6487 Depending on how much of Joffreys delivery was Jack naturally and how much he was coached; he has the tools to be good at it and I wish him well. We need more better psychologists than more good actors.
The guy made enough money on GOT and is probably still collecting because of licensing merch and residuals. And he wants to use the money to educate himself and get a degree? That’s classy. Maybe he’ll return to acting later in life or use his “Joffrey” experience to become the best Psychologist ever. 👍
He actually won... He was meant to be dead after he was caught by the Unsullied in 8x06. Instead, he became Hand of the King, which actually makes him "The King". Tyrion Lannister "the Imp" of Casterly Rock, won the Game of Thrones.
Yeah sure, the Starks won as the "alpha wolves" of their own packs, but the one most responsible for the new order in Westeros is actually Tyrion. In his first official Small Council, Bran has no interest in actual ruling, being contented with having Tyrion governing from the shadows. Also, if you look at previous seasons, the Hands often wield equal power, if not greater, than the Monarchs they serve. Just ask Jon Arryn, Ned Stark, and of course, Tywin Lannister. Of the Starks, I could say Sansa "won" the most, ruling over a war-torn, economically ruined North... but hey, independence aight. Lastly, "Power resides where men believe it resides. It's a trick, a shadow on the wall, and a very small man can cast a very large shadow."
I love that moment when Cersei is arguing with Tywin and she says "Don't make me do it again, please." She sounds almost like a child. Heady's delivery is fantastic.
@@crhu319 Lena as Cersei is probably my favorite performance of a clear villain with occasional sympathetic moments. She was diabolical, but I could never bring myself to hate her.
This always makes me adk the obvious question that no one ever seems to. Why did Tywin never remarry. As the Lord of Casterly rock and warden of the west he would have had his pick and it would have increased his power and influence, he could have had more sons to sure up his direct lineage. It never made any sense because he would have been in control of the whole situation and ensured the family was stronger than ever.
Tywin also responds to Joffrey's exasperation at having to climb a bunch of stairs by himself climbing the steps up to his throne. It demonstrates that he'll willingly walk up some steps, then challenges Joffrey's own ability and will by offering to waste the efforts of servants to carry Joffrey up. Tywin directly answers his question by (not-so-subtly) transforming it into a statement that he is the more capable one while Joffrey is weak.
Went on a job interview today, asked the interviewer why would I work with them, sat next to him, told him how my first wisdom tooth was pulled out and finally asked him to go to my house, security escorted me out, thanks, need more tips like these im gona subscribe.
No, see, the part you did wrong was you didn't pull your pecker out to let him know there is a new cowboy in town. But be careful if you have tiny balls cos it might work against you. Next time record the interview and if Charlie is too busy to do a breakdown of it, then I will, damn it!
When Joffrey is talking down to Tywin about the Tower of the Hand, I also like how Tywin climbs the steps to the Iron Throne as if to say, "Look how easy climbing stairs can be."
You're probably the only channel I won't recommend to friends because your insight into power dynamics and the tips that you derive from your observations are so refreshing and highly usefully. Needless to say as greedy as it may sound I don't my friends to have access to the knowledge that I attain from your videos. Thanks again keep up the good work🖒
Tyrion was given power in Mereen and he brookered a fake peace that brought Mareen close to destruction until Dany came back with the Dotraki. Tyrion led to the destruction of Tyrells and the decapitation of the Doonish. Tyrion's advises are bad in most of the cases.
The crazy thing is that when you stay out of the power plays..people talk to you about everything because they want to sway you to their side. You can learn a lot about the people telling you things about others from just listening and not chiming in lol
This entire channel reinforces what I’ve learned in my own life, that people of all backgrounds respond best to someone who thinks before they speak, has emotional awareness and self control, and can figure out the boundaries of every social situation so that they can either respect them, purposely break them, or push them. If you want to win a game you have to know the rules.
In job interviews I usually pick the chair next to the interviewer. They quickly realize that if they tell me to sit elsewhere they come off as petty. It changes the whole dynamic if you end up getting hired, it's interesting.
I'm the kind of boss who will show you which chair you should move to. Then conduct the interview trying to see past the skepticism created by a stranger who may have trouble with boundaries.
prox1e Tyrion probably doesn't even have Lannister blood. Joanna might have been raped by the mad king and died during premature childbirth which explains Tyrion's easy interaction with dragons as he is also a Targaryean.
"We could arrange for you to be carried" So many great lines , but most need a setting , which makes them memorable only to those who know, brilliant. Another i remember- "Power is Power" Cersi to little finger ,whose about to meet his demise , fittingly he gets a preview of the method of his actual demise.
I always wondered what the key to littlefinger and varys success was. Is it only because of littlefinger's incredible business acumen, and Varys spying, or is there charisma involved. Tyrion never has a plan and he is ultimately just a pawn in this grand chess game Varys and Little finger have been playing since the beginning of the show. If you want to make a video about other characters on Game of Thrones those two characters are the most interesting to talk about as neither of them were born with any power and are the most clever and strategic players in the entire show.
It started dropping sooner but his low point certainly was the idea of putting women and children in the crypts when the undead attack. EDIT: To clarify, his IQ started dropping the moment they went past Martin's writing.
+Charisma on Command Would you mind if I adapted this into a Ted Talk at my school? I have an assignment in which I have to write and present a Ted Talk in front of my school and I feel this would be perfect for that.
Its genius how this guy hooked me with something like game of thrones and taught me valuable lessons that were in front of my face as i watch my favorite show. hes got my sub : p
Charles Dance's performance as Tywin Lannister reminds me of Sir Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. They both exude immovable object + towering intellect.
Right from season one Tyrion has been the smallest man but the _biggest personality_ (helps that writers make him outright the most entertaining and having a stronger moral compass than the books) . The primary reason I watch *Game of Thrones* is because of Tyrion.
maybe do a video on jon snow and how he was doing the right thing but failed to deliver the message to the nightswatch and that's why they killed him. he never uses his words and doesn't really talk much when confronted. something many struggle with
+Batoul S Great episode idea, do it! Conclude the episode with a happy dance! Ned had the same problem, by the way. Maybe title the episode "How to definitely nót win the Game of Thrones'.
This was an excellent analysis of power dynamics in Game of Thrones. Subconsciously, most viewers recognise them, but few of them could consciously articulate what they are witnessing. I'm very impressed!
I don't think Dany is the best example of charisma. Her gullible and overly idealistic nature leads her to be blinded to the shifting desires of others close to her. She's become more and more self-assured in her own wisdom and actions whilst becoming less sympathetic to the behavioral shifts of her own people. Leads her to seem obnoxious. A Moral high horse is no way to win the favor of others around you. She also seems to lack a degree of self awareness, she knows how to play her strengths as you saw, but is unwilling to recognize her weaknesses, shielding her insecurities by compensating with bold actions instead, where as someone like tyrion acknowledges them and uses them to his own advantage. She's got a lot to learn quick if she doesn't want to die on her way to that throne.
+Erik Magyarsthetic She refuses to compromise in her beliefs which is exactly why she's win. She polarizes people, either you're on her side and you respect human decency, basic rights, and the power that she commands (with dragons) or you're not. Tyrion navigates a world of backstabbing and temporary allies and compromises all of which sets the stage to have the ground fall out from under you before you can think twice about it. Don't get me wrong Tyrion's damn good at working people, but that's the thing, he needs to leverage people to get loyalty, Dany doesn't.
I respectfully disagree. Firstly dont project your modern set of moral values on a medieval fantasy world. In mereen she is imposing her own culture on others and the army she "freed" follows her every command. Some of which were Kill every man in a city where not all were guilty and crucify a set number of men in another picked at random whether proven guilty or innocent. Secondly Every character thus far that has not compromised and stuck halfheartedly to their values has wound up dead. Ned and Rob with their codes of Honor, Stannis with his uncompromising world view on justice (in the books they expand on his wish to impose his moral code and views on justice on to the realm). Much like Dany. The list goes on and on. Dany is not a good example of any real life situation. She survived the pyre and birthed dragons out of luck and superpowers. Even with her 3 dragons she almost found herself starving and locked out of Quarth due to her entitled attitude. Then almost assassinated by Dario if he hadn't have chosen to be friendly instead. Its at the whims of others that she has risen. Without her superhuman gifts, magical dragons, and companions that dius ex machina her plot along, she'd be dead. With all her power birth rites and whatnot. Only through the help of others like Jorah Xaro then Dario her Dragons etc does she even make it through the story. She is a terrible example. Born into a prestigious name. Gifted an army, dragons and magical abilities? who can relate to this? Tyrion on the other hand has been down trodden, his family name now means nothing, he has no wealth anymore, he no physical prowess but instead he works the world he has been given, playing the game better than anyone else. Youre wrong politics never collapses it is the code the world has always worked on. Rulers, Monarchs Systems of government now that collapses like so many stones into so much rubble. Baelish, Varys, Tyrion, Tywin These are the prime examples of what charisma speaks of they work the minds of people not fires and dragons. God that was long. here TL;DR: Dany power is not of this world and only works in GoT. Tyrion's Works anywhere.
Erik Magyarsthetic Well no fucking shit. It's a STORY, and in the real world i'd root for Tyrion because he's the smart player and that's the smart thing to do but it is a story with magically gifted princesses who ride dragons and shit and in that setting my money's on the magic dragon lady, not the dwarf. Also, in terms of those who stuck to their beliefs dying, first off the stark family never had dragons, if they did things may have gone differently, secondly Stannis was a pawn of the red woman which is a sort of compromise, allowing yourself to be swayed by someone elses vision, not to mention that he burned his daughter and for what? Ned Starks morals got in the way of him winning (he tried to conduct politics with honnor) and Stannis went to far. That's the thing about Danny, she might have been a hard ass sometimes but she's never made a compromise and she's never had to lose. Sure maybe it's all magic and luck but that kinda shit tends to attract a following all the same which might turn her base into more than just that (as it now already seems to be) Oh and don't you dare start that cultural relativism bullshit. I can agree that they've got a right to be pissed because she screwed with their way of life, but if you legitimately want to try and tell me that slavery is okay under any circumstances you need to seriously re-evaluate your moral code. (because morals aren't just some shit somebody made up, they are, should be, and in fact need to be something personal to yourself) TL;DR (cause my thing was probably just as long) It's fiction, and she hasn't made the same mistakes as either Stannis or the Starks. Also don't argue the morality of slavery.
Way to completely ignore the Topic of the conversation.... If your read my comments properly you'd realize I was never talking about who is most likely to win. My comments is ENTIRELY about who is the most capable in ruling and controlling other (aka manipulating people and situation to their advantage). Using a dragon to win a war. Much like using a gun to win an argument does not make you the better strategist -__- Also did you just entirely ignore every other point I raised with the Hypocrisy of Dany's character only to talk about slavery and your morality again...wow typical Show watching Dany fan. Skipped bast the Crucifixion of citizens selected at random. Her US style policy of overthrowing governments without creating a system of governance that, so to leave a void of power for those far worse to take over the cities she had "freed" a couple months ago to be enslaved once again under crueler masters (read) the books or watch the show where Dario says "Some thug Butcher has taken the city". She is a horrible leader. You also missed my mention of her entitled self righteous attitude. So far 9/10 of her "accomplishments" have been gifted to her. Her stubborn inability to adapt to her environments and influence people with anything other than fear (or perhaps awe and titties). Has left her near death multiple times. E.g: The gates of Quarth, Negotiations in Quarth, The fighting pits of Mereen (dragon had to save them all), dealing with the Khals. Being fire proof is not a mode of manipulating situations and people. Using her mind she could have avoided these. So yes she's well positioned to win (although if the books progress down their normal thematic trajectory. She won't) But do you honestly think she displays the abilities of persuasion, manipulation, control, expression and awareness that this channel is about more so than Tyrion, Tywin, Baelish, Varyst etc? One last thing: "because morals aren't just some shit somebody made up, they are, should be, and in fact need to be something personal to yourself" Yes morals are "made up" seeing as the average Humans view of Morality in the 1100s was much different to the 2000s. It develops changes progresses and evolves. I personally despise the thought of slavery but you're once again projecting modern morals and values into a fantasy medieval based world. Remember how Drogo Raped Dany in the first season, or Ramsey raped sansa in S5. Well hate to break it to you, but according to the morality and laws of the time and world they live that wasn't rape to them. Although it was to me and you. P.S. If you havnt noticed one of the greatest themes of the entire show and books is Adaptation and progression, this is why characters that move with the times and accept the world for what it is becoming survive like Tyrion and those that rigidly adhere to the old status quo such as stanis, Rob, Ned and eventually Dany die. The show among other things is about a changing and progressing world, where legitimacy means less and less and and our modern concepts and political ideas emerge. Bravos and Baelish being prime examples of this. Anyways This was long as fuck but I just finished My major Presentation so I finally got around to replying :P. Not here to fight but I can't resist a good debate ;)
I literally did this. Few years back I told the panel of interviewers: with all due respect, I'm interviewing you, not you interviewing me. They said: I'm sorry, what? I said: I know what I can bring to the table, I need to know who I'm working for and whether you can bring me to greater heights. They asked me when can I start
In many professions this would not fly, because this shows that you only care about yourself not the job/vocation. I would not hire someone who only cares about what they can get out of the job.
Yep, unfortunately interviews can be very dependent on the interviewer. If you get a young inexperienced person saying this, you'd throw them out the interview room. To be honest, it has to be more subtle. For me, I have certain things I want out of a job, and thus more tactful way is to ask whether they can provide what I need.
I am an 80yo semi retired mechanical engineer....... now painting and showing some others my approach.. this power video was one of the most useful and well explained video's Ive ever seen... and quite relevant across all aspects of life...it will change the way I approach gallery owners as well... Thank you.
+ShinShoki Notice the way Hodor Hodors to Bran, showing Bran respect and being attentive as he Hodors. He then turns around and Hodors again before exiting the room. Hodor is one of the most charismatic characters on the show.
This is a way of reviewing GoT that I haven't seen before. It's insightful, and I enjoyed the way the reviewer applies the action in the scenes he's reviewing to daily real life. I would like to see more GoT reviews from this perspective.
+Joshua Williams My guess is it's a mix of learning evolutionary psychology, NLP, probably pick-up and social dynamics as a whole. Also things like triune brain theory, frame control and other stuff like influence etc.
Completely agree. Working 12 years in a crappy store with a lot of crappy bosses, it really opens your eyes and perspective that who is "in charge" is not always actually the person in charge. Everyone is a person with lots of flaws and strengths. Respect is earned for me with everyone, no matter the status.
A few friends quite enjoyed our discussions on watching the interactions of characters within the GoT series. Your summation is very close to what we talked about. The writing is superb and how it was projected onto the screen, very rare to see.
I love that you are doing this through the language of Game of Thrones. That is why we tell stories and why we are so connected to the characters. Because while we may not be a dwarf trying to win the trust of a lady with 3 dragons but we can take lessons from these stories and make the applicable to real life.
I think that's something the consumer audience has lost. Not everyone mind you, but a decent portion of audiences don't watch/listen to media to learn from the story. What makes me sad about that, is we will lose good stories to learn from because the production of them won't be called for if we don't stay vocal about wanting them.
I'm interested in what you said about sometimes ignoring (letting go of?) the power dynamic altogether. Maybe creating a power dynamic when there doesn't need to be one can be a pitfall? A video about this would be interesting
before the 4 Ws - pick your battles. you put this at the end of your video - KUDOS, and well done. but really - the "pick your battles" issue is a threshold question and must be visited before engaging in 4Ws. Very well done. Thank you for creating this.
@@Dabshanks dragon is what Targaryens had or else there were more powerful people other than Targaryens, so, without dragons Targaryens themselves were a piece of 🐴,lmao
Thanks Anthony Robbins, I feel so empowered now!!! I'm going to nail that job interview for the Walmart greeter. I'm going to bring my own bar stool so I sit higher than the person interviewing me.
I would absolutely love to see an analysis or just generally a video based around the conversation between Tyrion and Tywin in season 4, episode 10. The tactics that Tywin uses, whats going on with Tyrion, why it doesn't exactly work out, etc. Love the videos, keep up the great work!
Tywin is overrated. Tywin didn't defeat Rob Stark. Rob's romance with the foreign doctor destroyed him. Tywin almost got killed by Aria and ultimately killed in the toilet. Tyrion is a drunk. Only a fool trust a drunk. Ignoring Tyrion is the only thing Dany does well but if someone isn't willing to kill Tyrion, he will stab Danny in the back because that is all Tyrion does well. He wished he killed his king and would kill his queen if she doesn't take his stupid advice that doesn't work.
Tyrion does not appeal to the mercy of his enemy, he draws attention to how they can benefit if they keep him alive. Cross Reference: Law 13: When asking for help, appeal to people’s self interest, never their mercy or gratitude - 48 Laws Of Power, Robert Greene Practical Action: Focus on what you can bring to the table, and be willing to walk away.
I think you overlooked the "power is power" section. The question is WHO has the power. the reason you see cersei talk shit against littlefinger and then get talked shit against by tywin is because she was using tywins power in the first place. She has no power and he has all the power. Thats why tywin can intimidate everyone and make them do what he wants. It has nothing to do with where he stands or how he talks and everything to do with HE will stand and say whetever he wants cause he can hurt you should you disobey him. This is also why you see Cersei losing more and more of her control after Tywins death. And she is starting to understand that she didnt really have that much power to begin with.
Denis Lipatnikov Most interesting? I wouldn't go that far. But they were very intense characters to watch. But I think most of the characters could be considering interesting in their own right. But that's just my opinion
Jayy Yes I'm sure many characters had more interesting backstories and motivations and in the books they were better characters, but what I meant is on screen they drew you in to the story, the acting of Charles Dance and Jack Gleeson helped of course.
Yes, would love for you to discuss people who are always trying to be competitive against you. Breaking down negatively competitive people who may be family and/or friends. Those you have to live with who are set on always breaking down your goals. I would like to dissolve their jealous competition against everything said or any goals you have. It’s exhausting.
When Tyrion walks up to Danny to advise her, he is also separating himself from Jorah, clearly showing his higher status even before speaking about him. Just brilliant.
These lessons are great! Did you happen to study psychology in school by any chance? Because, if you did, you are great at what you do & you should keep on making these videos. These videos of yours help out more people than you think.
+Josh Bray Everyone should pick up a book on basic psychology at the least once in their lifetime, it helps to understand a bit about your and other peoples brain, gives you advantages others don't have. Even if its all abstraction, its helpful to look at things from a distance.
Mark Joseph Middleton Thanks for the idea. It will probably help me out understand other people more & if I do become a Lawyer or jump into politics, if I got the advantage of knowing what people are feeling, I can sway people to vote for me.
"He wants to be Moriarty but is not" there, I have done it for you after two years. No but seriously, that's how it was put to me once. It's like a Holmes story only Moriarty is just not that smart. And he commits the villain cardinal sin of relying on and failing because of that subordinate.
Very fascinating video, like all of them that I've seen so far. What really impressed me at the end, though was your reminder not to treat everything as a power game. After seeing all these videos, I was starting to worry that that was the mindset of this channel, that everything was a power game. Honestly, now I remember why I subscribed. You really speak my language.
