The Power Glove NES Angry Video Game Nerd AVGN - reaction 

Anybody remember the movie "the wizard?" There's a scene where a kid has the power glove and everybody thinks it's the coolest thing ever.

When I was a kid I always wanted a power glove. I'm glad I didn't get it.

Ah, the Power Glove: great idea, terrible execution. I think a major part of the glove's failure was that Nintendo tried to get ahead of the technology available at the time. Luckily, this failure caused Nintendo to go back to the drawing board and 20 years later we got the original Wii. Also, I forgot how literally everything was made into a Nintendo game in the 90s lol.

This was the precursor to the Wiimote.

Fun fact about why you're so damn tiny in Punch Out: The arcade game had you play as a guy made of green outlines so that you could see the opponent and their moves through the character, something the NES wasn't capable of. So, they just made you super short, so you still could have a good view of the person you're fighting. Thus, Little Mac was born. :D

Agreed, PC gaming (keyboard and mouse) is much easier for most types of games, and especially FPS and RTS games.

The power glove was tweaked and it eventually came back as the wii remotes. took a long time to get it right. sort of. I had a friend who it and I borrowed it, couldn't even get it to work with my tv.

He input that name during Zelda 2 either to imply the game's bad, or the Power Glove *(PG abbreviated)* is bad.

Little Mac(Punch Out) is intentionally smaller than all the enemies in the game, because you need to read their movements to dodge, block and counter. If he was the same size, he would obscure their movements and make the game unfair. This wasn't an issue in the Arcade version, where your fighter was made of grid lines, so you could see through them. But the NES did not have the kind of power to replicate what the Arcade version did, so having Little Mac be so short, was a compromise.

That's odd. The first time I saw the Power Glove in person was at a pawn shop. I heard about it before though. I kinda wanted it even though we no longer had a NES at the time I saw it just for playing make believe and shit.

The Power Glove was in A Nightmare on Elm Street 6, rather Nintendo wanted it to be or not

The Power Glove _does_ work. It just doesn't work as well as the standard controller for a whole number of reasons. 1. Aside from Super Glove Ball and Bad Street Brawler, all NES games were designed for the controller in the first place, not the Power Glove. 2. The Power Glove tech uses ultrasonic transmitters to ping position of the glove and reflective dye on the fingers to translate button inputs back to the sensors around the tv and then to the NES. Because sound waves operate in the medium of air vs electrical signals traveling through conductive material, the Power Glove can detect inputs 20 times per second vs 60 times per second with a standard controller, making it one third as sensitive. 3. Over the past 30 years, the conductive dye on the fingers of many Power Gloves has worn off and/or the sensors have received wear and tear to make them not operate as well as they were designed to run. 4. There are more than a dozen configurations for the Power Glove to play different styles of games. Playing say, a platformer with a mode designed for a racing game will result in a shitty experience. AVGN videos are satire that deliberately overinflates minor annoyances while they downplay positive aspects. It's done for comedy. The Power Glove isn't amazing. But it's faults here are way overblown to the point where it just simply isn't accurate.

I have a power glove oven mitt and it functions better than the original! As for the Wii U I love that system and it had plenty of great games (switch ports show that) I have about 20 for it and Mario Maker, Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World...great stuff. The PS5 is coming but not sure when. The tower you mentioned is the Xbox Series X out in November I believe. But this next generation will basically be PCs but without the stigma of PC players.

What's frustrating to me is that James ended his video with Super Mario Bros, but didn't disclose that he enabled turbo auto fire and blamed the Power Glove for not working with Mario. It's such a lie of omission. The Power Glove _does_ work perfectly fine with Super Mario Bros. in mode 5 with no auto turbo fire on.

How do they not know Bubble Bobble? It is 1 of the Top 20ish Best games ever made for the NES

Had a power glove i recall in mario if you flipped off the screen it would make him jump in one of the games. It truly did suck.

Dig dug and bubble bobble have the same enemy sprites.
