Being silent doesn't means not doing anything. In Gita Krishna tells Arjuna to calm down and focus on his goals. Had Arjuna remained disturbed in the war he would have lost the battle. So being silent in difficult situations actually improves our focus.

Why Yudhishthir was silent? Because he wanted to continue the game and win his wife and brothers back. Had he didn't do that then according to the rules all the pandavas and draupadi were going to become slaves of Duryodhan all their life. And in that way no one would be able to help them. Imagine even Shri Ram had to go for exile in front of state politics then Pandavas were only normal human beings, imagine what would have happened to them if Yudhishthir had stopped the play and trigger war against Kauravas. Without arms and without army how can anyone fight? Think logically before saying anything. Most of the people won't understand the logic behind Yudhishthir's decisions.
