Great video. I would say that if you call your dog back to you from interacting joyfully with other dogs...you dont need to give him some food as you suggested (at 2:24). Surely, the point of the Premack means you releasing him to the desired behaviour of playing with the other dogs IS the reward. No need to add the food. That for me is the beauty of the Premack. I'm not suggesting to never treat with food but the Principle is muddied by adding a further reward. What do you think?
Thanks for your comment. Yes, you absolutely have a point, especially if the dog wants the social interaction more than the food treats. If on the other hand the dog likes both and they are both efficient reinforcers, then there is no problem with the option explained in the video.
This is not an accurate Representation of the Premack principal. You have blurred into simple Reward training and operant conditioning. There are a number of technical aspects involved in Premack primarily based around deprivation. Several of your examples don’t fit and are technically in accurate. The food reward example you gave is only valid if at that time the dog is motivated to get the food, and from a dog training perspective the dog needs to be motivated enough to be prepared to do a behaviour it doesn’t particularly want to do, in order to achieve access to the reward. Unless you have the requisite scientific knowledge about these more complicated theories you should stick to simple reward training explanations. No worries. Thanks for the feedback. I do not know what you mean by reward training, but I will certainly continue to explore other concepts in upcoming videos. Behaviour modification is not about knowing it all when I make a video. It's about little nudges in the right direction. I hope I am achieving this and I certainly do not know it all.
