Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This RU-vid channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

Completely valid point Rick, no offence taken! Interested to know how you feel the Top Flite compared directly to the Srixon Distance that you reviewed previously? I pay £10 a dozen, would you say the Top Flite are twice as good given they come in about twice the price?

That’s why golfers subscribe and trust your judgement. It the honesty and integrity without bias... “I actually think these Top Flite balls are really good...” there is too much golf snobbery and bs in golf sometimes. This summer I followed a foursome of old guys playing off the same tees as me. There's 5 sets of tees at this course, and I was on the 4th one back. Not one of them hit drives over 200. Besides on the par 3's when they dig out their 3 wood, it is literally impossible for them to have any chance at birdie. Actually the front sets of tees are labeled as Junior/Senior. According to the scorecard, they should've been playing a 4500 yard course instead of 6700. I guess they could've played from the red tees too which are labeled as Forward and not Women's. Those are 5300 so not bad.

@@bmil38 Oh I know those type of folks. I play from the blue tees at my local course (6510 yds), and I remember playing one time after four older gentlemen who was playing from the black tees (7030 yds). None of them could drive very far, and usually I found out that their second shot would end up just a tiny bit further then my driver tee shot (About 270 yds avg.). All four of them were pretty bad, so I don't know why they insisted on playing from those tees. Like some of the par 3 holes they have to bring out the driver, and it would still be left short

When I played on my high school team, my family didnt have a lot of money, and it felt demoralizing going up against country club kids that had the newest clubs and ProV1s, while I used the Top Flite Gamer, but I actually found it performed as well as any ball on the market that costs less that $30/dozen, so I used it for a lot of my time in high school.
@WCGreeny

Good for you guys. Talent, a good swing, good feel around the greens, smart play, not which ball you use, will beat lots of guys with top tier equipment. I end up using old, ugly, scuffed, discolored, balls most of the time and if I'm swinging well I can't lose the thing. BTW, my irons are 10 years old, driver and woods at least 4-5 years old, putter unknown age.

Grew up in a fairly rural area and didn’t encounter the country club kids often. I do recall being jealous of the kids gaming a set of Ping Eye 2s or a ping putter but that was a rare occurrence. @@NJP76 No doubt. I have found a bunch of thrift store sets over the years and built most of my good sets from Golfsmith components back in the day. I found a couple of the Hammer Distance version and played a couple rounds. I liked them so I went to Dick's and they were 15 balls for $15+ or 30 balls for $25+. Since I'm trying them out I only bought a box of 15 for $15. I feel a lot better when I lose a $1 ball vs. a $4 ball. :)

i remember these coming out nearly 10 years ago, then they were called D2 same dimple in dimple tech, had a feel and distance version, and a fancy little target allignment tool, the feel version were great for mid range price, and still enough spin on pitches, was spewing when they stopped making them haha

Because of Rick Shiels, watching his videos before arriving at the course has given me the ability to somehow hit more draw shots than fades. I think I had more or less 20 of them in my previous round. Awesome review there, Rick.

The new Top Flites are surprisingly nice. I play with the previous version D2 Feel (which has now been rebranded as the Hammer Control). As Rick said, the previous version of the Gamer had a urethane cover which was beat up in less than 6 holes. They are so much softer than they used to be. Had my first hole in 1 last Friday using them. 188 yards, 5 Hybrid. Flew high and landed soft. 🙌

Actually bought these after this review. I've shot some good scores with them. I'm a 7 handicap and normally use titleist golf balls. Switch between prov1 and tour soft. I get great spin on greens, great off the tee, although not 11 distance.(on a scale from 1-10) Overall very impressed and I may continue to use them

Hey rick! Your channel has been incredibly helpful to me, both in my golf game and in helping me get through covid (by thinking about my golf game haha). I just thought I'd share in case anyone didn't know. Top Flite was purchased by Dick's Sporting Goods in the US a few years back. Dick's also own's GolfGalaxy, which is one of, if not, the largest online golf retailers here. They have rebranded Top Flite completely, and I think they're starting to find their niche!

I think it's in relation to actual premium balls like Pro v1's or chrome softs. Compared to balls you would find in that category they are actually quite soft. They aren't rock hard like a distance ball.
@RedwoodGeorge
@RedwoodGeorge 3 года назад
I played these balls for a few years, then switched to the Chrome Soft. The Callaway is a little softer but they're in the sane category - the Gamer is in no way a hard, cheap ball. (Also it was cold the day Rick played, all balls would have felt a little bit harder)

Great video Rick, your spot on with how the old “Top-Flite” balls used to feel like a brick, I still have some brand new that my dad gave me from years ago when he played with them and I still use them on the odd occasions, when you hit them you can defo hear the difference and DEFO feel the difference 😂, might have to get some of these new “Top-Flite” balls and test them against each over,
