Seventeen years ago when a dear friend told me that he believed that Christ had come a second time. I wasn't like you, and couldn't brush off (Mathew 24) as well as other words of Christ, that easily. It seemed that your main argument for not believing in the concept of preterism was the lack of history. Even C.S. Lewis had an issue with Matthew 24:30,34 when He said this: “It is clear from the New Testament that the disciples all expected the Second Coming in their own lifetime. And, worse still, they had a reason, and one which you will find very embarrassing. Their Master had told them so. He shared, and indeed created, their delusion. He said in so many words, ‘this generation shall not pass till all these things be done.’ And he was wrong. He clearly knew no more about the end of the world than anyone else. Consider this: Futurists claim that there is a disconnect between the majority of believers and full preterists, and the mass majority of the last 2000 years can’t be wrong. They forget that when one man, Martin Luther was on trial in 1521, Prince Charles V declared him an outlaw and a heretic for not following the creedal traditions. • Total world population 8 billion, 2.4 billion Christians, 45,000 denominations . • (Exodus 23:2) Do not follow the multitude to do evil. • (Proverbs 3:4-6) be still and know God. Lean not on your own understanding. Stand-alone and let Him alone make your path straight.
