When Fremantle took over the show, I really love the fact that Bob Barker kept Mark Goodson's name in the closing credits, and had the announcer say "A Mark Goodson Television Production". I believe he did it for the sake of the old tradition!
This was taped in either June or July of 2003. The last show that taped while Rod was still alive was taped in October 2003 and aired on December 22, 2003. Barker's Birthday Bash was the first show taped (On 11/6/03) after Rod died. However, for obvious reasons that one aied out of order. Notice the December 23 show features Randy West and Lanisha Cole (like the Birthday show) and the December 22nd show featured Burton Richardson and Claudia Jordan who left the show because her show BFF died.
You are correct...this IS the last season for Rod to announce, but specifically, his last episode for announcing was aired October 20, 2003, a week before he died :(
I could see not showing Rich, and Rod close to his death. But having Johnny and Rod on was part of what made the show what it was. Just like the Dian, Holly, Kathleen, and Janice exits. This is probaly another TPIR mystery that don't make too much sense
@RPSteve Yeah, I know. Mike has done some tremendous damage to the show. One day I should go to a taping & when Drew introduces Mike Richards to the audience, my group is gonna boo at him (the rest of the audience will most likely do that as well).
Interesting how Syd asked the audience if Bob should continuing hosting The Price is Right for the next four years (instead of being the president for four years) because Bob DID in fact host the show for four more seasons: 32, 33, 34, 35. Interesting.
Yeah, I was suprised Syd said 4 more years, and it ACTUALLY happened...Bob did say in an interview he was going to retire earlier than 2007, but the reason he kept going was because he was having too much fun!!! :D
@Kjr0se So you're saying Rosie O'Donnell would be better? Are you kidding? Besides, Drew Carey is doing a great job! I've even seen a couple of comments saying that they think Drew is starting to become more exciting than Bob, because of Bob getting crabby with the contestants in his last seasons.

Dave Price, Todd Newton, John O'Hurley, Doug Davidson, Mike Richards, George Hamilton, Mario López, and Mark Steines all did audition tapings before audiences in episodes that were not broadcasted. Later, Ian Ziering and Drew Carey were among other names being considered. On July 23, 2007, Drew Carey announced on an appearance of the Late Show with David Letterman that he had been chosen as the host of The Price Is Right.
@TheJamesgordon43 Also Mike Richards was a possible host? Ooooooooooooh! That gives me the jitters just thinking what would have happened if he was host. He's already ruined the show as executive producer, he probably would have ruined the show more if he was the host. You can thank Syd Vinnedge and Mike Richards for ruining the show. Also, about succedding Barker, everybody knew nobody could. It would have been hard on anyone who would have gotten the job, just like it is on Drew Carey.
@gameshowmaster That is incorrect. Fingers was also dismissed by Richards. It was published as her "retirement" in order to cover it up. A lot of people don't know what's really going on behind Door #2, especially when Richards fired Lanisha Cole due to her race.
I wondered the same thing. I believe I read somewhere that Bob did have a retirement plan in place a few years ago and he planned to retire right around when he did. So it wasn't like he woke up one day and announced it.
Good news! There will be a new pricing game that will debut on the Season 37 premiere. It is called Gas Money and was created by Roger Dobkowitz. It is played for a car and up to $10,000.

Oy Syd's speech was just embarrassing, I think bob was laughing just to be nice. and correct me if I'm wrong but was this the last season premiere Rod Roddy announced.
omg...I was wondering why, when I watched this back when it was 32nd, Rod was losing a lot of weight, he had to fight his cancer until the end. rip Rod! They also had the Price is Right 32nd/33rd logo on the wall and on tv, until he passed away, then they removed it afterwards. =)
@TheJamesgordon43 Well maybe that is true, but nobody was perfect. I mean it seems like Bob didn't give the contestants enough time to decide and that's probably what costed some contestants their pricing game.
@TheJamesgordon43 I don't have to flatter myself. Drew Carey got the job and a lot of people like me like him a lot. A lot of people say one good thing about him is that he's not always Crabby like Bob got with some contestants. Besides, do you think Carol Burnett would have really wanted the job? She's like what, in her 70's now or something?
I find it ironic that Syd talks about Bob hosting Price for the next four years, in refrence to a Presidential term, when Bob did in fact ONLY host for the next four years, retiring after season 35.

I agree the microphone grabbing was very rude. The first part of the speech reminded me of the days when Mark Goodson would ome on the showto thank the crew, but the whole president thing was stupid.

Was Rich firied? He was a damn good announcer. They should have fired Drew. Maybe they are trying to systematically ruin the show. Bob come out of retirement!
