I just don't understand why people here in the United States have so much difficulty with math ? I managed well paid people, baby boomers, in the hospitality industry who couldn't perform basic addition or subtraction skills without relying on a calculator. And when some of them were faced with simple eighth grade algebra math, sometimes I would hear complaining or see tears. I remember one day Bob Barker had a contestant playing "Hit Me" and the player drew the Ace. Bob counted the Ace as an eleven and declared the player losing the game. There were still two more cards left for the player to choose to give the player a chance to win. Not long after that, the game went away and never came back. As you insinuated, math games are too big a problem on "The Price Is Right ".
This would live on as gridlock, a lot of the gameplay mechanics would transition well over to that prop. Gridlock like add em up would be a one mistake game with the second ending the game there and than
Gridlock has absolutely zero to do with this game. The charm of this game is using simple arithmetic to determine what the numbers in the price are. If the "Kakuro" puzzle was a bit more popular, Add'em Up could see a revival. If you want to compare Gridlock to anything, compare it to Penny Ante.
