I remember the this show very well and Leslie Crowther presenting. It's a shame that the studio where this was made no longer exists. The old Central Television on Broad Street in Birmingham. It was sadly demolished about 2 or 3 years ago.

Agh no Showcase Showdown? Doesn't matter. Really enjoyed watching that, thank you. This was one of my favourite programs in the 80s.

They didn't have the big wheel back in the early 80s, they had the elimination game as shown here.

cutemimi25 According to my database, the Wheel in first season was discarded because IBA was outraged on the concept. Big Wheel returned but I don't know when that happen. In Warman, Forsyth, and Pasquale's Big Wheel is used. Warman: Spin 100 (one or two spins) gets you another next spin and should you spin 100 again you win a big prize (a car commonly). That's because lighter regulation of satellite channels. Forsyth: Spin 100 (one or two) nets GBP1000. Pasquale: Half hour only gets bonus spin for a Car, but in Full hour, GBP1000 and car bonus spin.

@@adrianpackard3695 In the first Crowther wheel, spinning 100 in one or two spins won a bonus of £500 and a bonus spin. In the bonus spin, spinning a 5 or 15 won an additional £250, while spinning 100 won an additional £1,000. After the first series, the wheel was used to determine who made the choice in the Showcase, with a spin of 100 in two spins earning £400 for charity and a possible £100 for themselves by answering a consumer-related question. The wheel would be gone after the second series.

Check out the Central flags! Check out the audience whipped into a frenzy! Check out the theme tune and music - so manic! :oD

I believe this is from 1986 (which would make this Series 3, IIRC) based on the questions from the Showcase Showdown round (particularly the last one where Leslie stated "last summer" and the graphic said "Summer 1985").

+Tubewings I think these shows were never broadcast on TV They were purely a night out for a company to send their staff too and then given a tape of the show, There would be lots of groups in the audience from a lot of different companys that they had paid for as a trip out for them, A little like what the Big Brother house is doing next year ( CORPORATE EVENTS )

Pricing games would've been nice.

Okay, for that last one--correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't 1966 before decimaisation? So, why did Mike write £49·50 instead of £49·10·0? Hell, why did he write it in decimal form in the first place when Leslie explicitly stated that the answers had to be in full pounds only?

Because Mike was either not paying attention, or was not thinking clearly.

At 10:01 you can actually see the excitement bursting through Crowther. I’ve never seen that with Bob Barker. Don’t get me wrong, Bob Barker is a superb gameshow host but Crowther definitely made the Price Is Right for so many Brits

@@betaman7988 Maybe a mix of Bob and Drew then? In that sense?

Man they really did rip off the American version, it's really had to beat Bob Barker.
