"A NEW CAR!!!!!! Comes with these standard features. Tinted glass, electric clock, vinyl roof, white-stripe tires, AM radio & California emission...........Bob."
Ohhh man this sooooo reminds me of spending the summers in the early to mid 1980’s in upstate NY at my grandma’s house up in the mountains. WRGB 2 CBS. Love this track ❤️!
I miss Dennis James (God Bless His Soul) and Tom Kennedy I also miss Janice Pennington, Holly Hallstrom, Kathleen Bradley and Chantel Dubay Beck R.I.P. Johnny Olsen and Rod Roddy
I remember hearing this music when I was 5 and 3/4 years old back in late 1972. The music gave me chills back then. Now here I am, 49 years old and it still has the same effect on me in 2016. I especially love the transition starting around 0:44 mmmmmm
When I was a kid I never paid close attention to Johnny, but as I've been binging on TPIR on Pluto TV over the past week or so, i realize what a fantastic announcer he was. Most everyone remembers Johnny's replacement Rod Roddy (who also passed away).
Walt Levinsky composed for Score Productions, a well-known production company specializing in TV music. Levinsky is credited on a 1972-1976 album of music cues for The Price is Right, which includes much of the show's music that is still heard today such as the showcase showdown and various car cues.
As much as I loved Rod Roddy (having been born in '82, he was the one I grew up with) but I think Johnny's voice just went better with it. I still also associate Rod with the Press Your Luck reruns.
This is actually a variation of the original "Come on Down" music used from 1972 to 1976. In addition to Showcases, it was also sometimes used in the early days of the show as car music.
If I remember correctly, that unusual sound in this version of the theme is the use of a Moog synthesizer from Edd Kalehoff. He worked on the film "Sidelong Glances of a Pigeon Kicker" (great title, ehh). The film is lost at the moment but you can find copies of the trailer on compilation tapes. The music in the film sounds just like a TPIR or Match Game theme.
I seem to recall that this lwas in fact the original opening music for the first few years of the show starting in 1972, I don't know why the old videos of the first season don't seem to have it.
this showcase is filled with prizes as we take a trip inside the price is right department store! Now, on the first floor, this section is filled with something every child loves during this time of year, a selection of toys! this selection of toys from the new Family Catalog features some of the latest new releases, and the greats of yesteryear! something for everyone! On the second floor is a special section with a sale, devoted to items you'll see, in your new kitchen! this selection of appliances features a side-by-side refridgerator freezer with water filtration system and ice maker, a range and microwave, confection oven, and dishwasher. now... take a look on the top floor, you'll see a huge lighted clearance sign, because this thing really must go, in your garage! A New Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar! The 2017 Ford focus comes with standard equipment, plus power seats, california immition, bluetooth infotainment system, and 3 years of sirius-xm! this showcase featuring prizes from the price is right department store can be yours... if the price is right!
I've always wondered the name of this cue. Talking 40 years of never knowing since they never showed music credits. Power Punch is my absolute favorite of all the music cues.
Here’s another good idea for a showcase. Note, this one should be very special, cause it’s huge, maybe once price calculates 100 years in total (from the NBC days to it’s current CBS days,) and hopefully the market could cooperate. The showcase I had in mind is a showcase of prizes spanning Price is right’s history, from its early years, to current incarnation. For example, for the early years (50’s and 60’s,) was thinking maybe a house, then for current prize, maybe stuff to go inside the house, like a TV, bedroom set and kitchen, maybe a sailboat in place of a yot, then maybe a high end car to end with.
A NEW CAR....IT'S THE 1973 CHEVROLET IMPALA...4 DOOR SEDAN...WITH 8 CYLLINDER ...AUTOMATIC TRANSISSION...STEEL BELTED RADIALS...AM RADIO..IT'S THE 1973 CHEVROLET IMPALA....
I think the last year this was used on a showcase was in 2006 with Bob Barker still at the helm. Drew Carey destroyed all the old prize and showcase themes, since taking over in '07.
I thought that would be amazing for the 70's show at least for the 2 other come on downs, and the first 3 contestants on stage (first half,) the second half could've used the 1976-1979 come on down cue for the final 3 called/on stage. However we both can agree that it was nice to have them finally get their heads out of their butts and bring the cues back if only for a week.
Even into the 90's it was used on showcases; I remember as a kid this being my favorite tune. Too bad they're too advanced in technology today to need it.
+Idan O'Reilly i see i'm not alone. I started watching periodically in 93, 94, and it was certainly used for showcases at times. didn't actually become a loyal friend in true until 98, and that's when i think this got used as a rare cue.
+christopher coleman the horn version was the one used as a "come on down" cue, and winner cue (contestant goes on stage to play a pricing game.) this however was used as a showcase cue. the horn version was used from the show's debut until 1976. I'd say this cue, the showcase cue was used until about early to mid 2000.
