This claims to be about "LGBTQ+" rights, but only discusses the "T" part... the other letters only exist now to be force-teamed in support of transgender ideology. The 46 minute segment consisted almost entirely of people spouting slogans, tropes, and emotional appeals in support of that ideology, with the only opposition coming from one kind of nutty right-winger early on who talked about purging "perversions" by banning books, and then later a person who regrets transition (I listen to their podcast, which is very sensible) who barely gets a word in edgewise.

Very mindless invective to head off claims about a lack of medical evidence at the end of this debate. 4-on-1 and Cohn won.

"Trans joy" is not a justification to do this to children. You shower a child with praise and make them feel special then of course they are going to be joyful. For a little while anyway. But none of these children should be feeling pressured to change their bodies to better fit to stereotypes. This is medicalisation of non-conformity.This is not supported by evidence. You are not being kind by affirming the idea that these children are born wrong, as opposed to being perfect just as they are. Challenge society to be more accepting of gender non-conformity instead. No amount of sugar-coating with special flags, "joy" and sparkles changes the fact that this is harming children. Sterilising them, and risking a range of long term health issues - both physical and mental.

This is body modification and should be treated as such, with children not being allowed to since they cannot consent.Adults should be able to do as they wish but this is cosmetic surgery not “basic health care” and should pay for it the same way adults who want breast implants or tattoos do, these are not covered by insurance and they shouldn’t be.We have seniors who can’t get dentures or dental work paid for but tax payers should pay for This? No.

Gender affirming care isn't commonly covered. Let's suppose that theories on transgenderism are correct, that the brain can be, for instance, feminized in utero while the body is masculinized. Hormones and the fetus' sensitivity to them do dictate much of this. That could leave the individual with a nightmarish life, with their deepest sense of self saying they are a woman but have the outward appearance of a man. The best treatment for many is surgery and hormones to bring the body in line with the brain's self-image as much as possible. Of course, the body can't be changed at its core, it is more like reconstructive surgery. If we truly are our brains, then these individuals are whatever sex their brains - or at least parts of them - became through whatever process results in this. When people say a transwoman is not a "real" woman, we have to define what that means. Is our conscience, or "being" inside our brains, or the meat sack to which it is attached. I think a little empathy and knowledge would help to humanize this issue. Just imagine living that nightmare, then finally getting the treatment that makes you feel human, whole, only to have people stubbornly refuse to even use the name pronouns that feel normal to you and match your current state? Or worse, viciously attack you, mentally or physically, or put up as many legal roadblocks as possible. We don't have to understand or even agree with another person's choices in life to exercise the Golden Rule. Just be kind.

"The Pride Divide" but we'll give you one side. Was hoping for a well thought out and nuanced discussion, this wasn't it.

@@shelleymatthews5718 Exactly. What rights do cis people have that unless we live in a blue state also share as trans people? It's completely incongruent, and we're oppressed by bigots. Completely disingenuous question, btw.

I am a post-op 35 year transsexual woman who transitioned in her mid-20s. I do not agree with children, medically or surgically transitioning. This is a very crucial step to transitioning and I don’t feel that a child’s mine hasn’t fully developed yet not fully the complexity of these permanent life altering decisions. I don’t understand why people are so upset at these legislators who are simply trying to protect children. What is so strange to me is that the standard age for transitioning has always been 18. I’m not really sure where society went wrong, allowing children to transition. But I feel like legislators are trying to go back to the way it was before in the sense that you need to be 18 or older to transition. I really just wish we would go back to using common sense.

The guest appearing on video made some statements that are not really supported by the current data. This is one of the problems with discussions over this issue. Both sides tend to dig in and make embellished statements or apply personal or anecdotal data. There appears no doubt that there is something here that needs some sort of treatment or care - it isn't imaginary. The current gender affirming care including surgeries results in an amazing 99+% satisfaction rate. This is shown through many studies and meta-analysis, some many years out. So something is working and a vocal minority who unfortunately had issues should not be allowed to interfere with the 99% who are receiving relief. The dissatisfaction rate with knee surgery is 20%, should we have those people out campaigning against these surgeries? Many of these people are asking for donations, going on the right-wing, religious talking circuit, writing books, appearing on these interviews - it all feels very opportunistic, at least in part. All that said, there is no doubt that more research is needed into this issue in general, but certainly into the treatment pros and cons for children. We should not be doing things to those who have no real agency to agree without a strong backing of data and experience. That doesn't at all mean governments should be making these decisions because ideology - and there is no doubt that is what is going on, in some cases on both sides - should not come into play for a medical issue.

what i find frustrating is this kind of bigotry against other minority groups, the slurs, the conspiracy theories, the stereotypes, the presumed danger and criminality are generally regarded as meritless arguments like flat earth, holocaust denial, or taxes aren't real. while people, even people with power often do still believe those things, it is not regarded as necessary to entertain the purveyors of meritless arguments for the sake of hearing both sides. i want trans people to receive the same courtesy as Jewish people with ignoring holocaust deniers or black people with phrenologists and advocates for bringing back slavery.
