The Priest's Heart Cave - Megalithic Recon in the Caballo Mountains

There are A LOT of caves in those mountains - probably part of why there are so many legends. Time after time, caves that look good from a distance turn out to be nothing-burgers. BUT, there's only one way to find out. And, there if often at least some truth behind every legend... I won't be the one rappelling into anything, though! I just made the name up based on the geography - the priest-looking stone pillar at the beginning and how the rock in the cave looks very heart-shaped in the look angles at the end - it did not come from any particular tale I am aware of.

@@lostadamsgold you should go up on top and do a video on the old Spanish Misson ruins. It's at the top of the end of Burbank.

@@lostadamsgold by the way great videos, I know of a few old timers who chased Adams Diggings and they were always North to North East of Datil. But the guy you interviewed is the only one who says he's confirmed where it's at. I know a guy who thought he found it south of Luna NM in the Blue but most likely didn't

@@MegaKB333 The Luna area is beautiful. Fun hunting agates down there. Found a spot where the agates are as big as engine blocks, but not really practical to do anything with them since it is an on-foot approach. I think that the Blue was used a lot as a route by early explorers. Lots of people claim they found the 'Diggings. Ron's version has the most credible collection of physical evidence. Many just go off landmarks, but Ron and Paul even found human remains and signs of earlier colonial Spanish activity. Plus, some gold. They got kicked out when the landowner died suddenly and so did not locate the bonanza vein in time. I/we think that the original placer the Adams party worked is washed away or covered up.

@@MegaKB333 Hmmm, I've always been skeptical of the "Mission Ruins" up top. I know there are big agave roasting pits up there, and of course the old Taggert workings (plus, Older stuff, too...) With your suggestion, though, I may put that on the list. I have a long list of things to check out all over the mountains. Got directions or a GPS to the spot you are calling ruins?

Not sure what I think. Wish the drone could have gotten drone closer. Tough to fly in that terrain, and my buddy is just learning. Maybe trying again with the sun shining into the cave would work better. Can't tell if it ends or turns a bend.

@@lostadamsgold even just the opening is suspicious at least. Most natural caves ain't square like that. And yes flying with the sun shining inside would be better. How high is it in that cliff? That might be the exit for the ore chute. Don't seem too accessible as far as going into it. Especially carrying heavy stuff so finding the actual entrance up above. I'll come look lol

@@autotek7930 I heard they used to put rope riggings over the side. The entrance is maybe 60-80'+ up? I'm not a good gauge of that sort of thing. I always figured gold should be hidden where it can be accessed in a hurry, but the mindset of folks hiding massive amounts may be different - they'd need an army to get it all anyways, and depending on the time period, they had lots of "free" and expendable labor. I should not make it too easy to find this exact spot, but you are free to search just as I have, it is all public land. I'm not sure this possible site fits with El Chato, but a re-read of those waybills may help. Some say El Chato did not exist because they can't Google him up and find a hotel receipt, but El Chato just means "shorty" and Nevarez or Narvaez is a common name. The several different waybills he left behind all accurately describe a number of different mountain ranges from clear down by El Presidio Texas up into New Mexico. One way or another, you won't find me dangling off a rope to get in that cave! You suggestion to search up top, at least for a water path in makes sense. I doubt it is a man-made structure, but could have been widened or modified.
