Now as I grew older I appreciate this movie more because of 1- Being the last 2D Disney Movie 2- Having the important moral of "Fairytales can come true, but you gotta make them happen, it all depends on you" 3- Giving us (in my opinion) the creepiest death of a villain 4- That tragic scene where Raymond dies 😢

Princess and the frog still is my favourite Disney movie: as a POC it resonated with me seeing a black female in cartoon media. Tiana not only gave us black representation but broke many Disney stereotypes: she worked hard for herself, had the importance of family above all, level headed and logical in all her endeavours - If anything she fell in love with Naveen naturally once getting to know him although fit into a 1 hour+ movie compared to many movies where princess fall in love quick blindly. Doctor F was also an interesting character to note and his scenes were animated well I loved his evil shadows and links to the underworld being a slightly darker plotting for Disney. The representation of New Orleans and black culture presenting black people as hardworking, community, kind, strong willed. Whilst nodding to the realities of racism - Such as in the early scene on the bus where all the white people made stops in the rich areas whereas the black characters stopped in less developed areas. Or the subtle discrimination of Tiana from her colleagues when starting her business. Genuinely can’t fault this movie it continues to have a positive impact on me so really appreciate this video being made 😊

Tiana is still my favorite princess along with Belle, she is just so much different from other princesses, she was the first and so far only black Disney princess, is married to the only black prince, the two are one of the few couples of people from different countries since most princes are from the same country as their princesses, and she is one of the only ones who could have fulfilled her dream without magic, magic just helped her to see things from another perspective and connect with people she wouldn't have as if it wasn't for this adventure, like, how would she have met her crocodile friend? So the magical adventure she had was more to show her that she could fulfill her dream but would lose something important if she tried too hard, and at the end of the movie she and Navin built their restaurant with their own hands, no magic involved, and a little help from the crocodile they met during the adventure, showing once again what Tiana's father told her, she should never forget what's really important, friends are included, and in the end her new friend helped her too.

When I was little, the princess and the frog was played on TV once a year on boxing day. It was tradition for all the kids in my family to sit in front of the TV and watch it before bed. We were mesmerised by the only animated characters of colour we ever got to see. We love the characters, the music was amazing and the animation was stellar. I am disappointed to see that it didn't do well in the US. If anything, the princess and the frog as a whole is a core memory for me.

Lottie is one of the best characters in the movie. She may be spoiled and white, but she's still best friend with Tiana. Just look at the end. She's not mad at all that Tiana says she loves Navine, She's Happy that Tiana found true love. And this thing about she could give Tiana money all the time, she knew Tiana wanned to earn money by hard work. So yeah She's the best rich White girls ever.

1. Lottie stans just can't let Tiana be the best thing in her own movie. 2. And love? Disney got lazy with how Naveen and Tiana fall in love. It was rushed and they have no basis to continue to be together. 3. There's actually a lot of stuff that gets overlooked here but its a fantasy so I won't bring up history
@gabrielleduplessis7388

Their friendship is the best part of the movie for me. They are complete opposites and still get along. While they share different values, they never judge each other. I know the money Lottie gave Tianna was her dad’s, it still helped Tianna (which she was happy about) and it was Tianna’s beneigts she wanted. I also liked how even when it seemed Lottie’s wish came true, Tianna was still happy for her even though she was struggling. I also loved how when Tianna was shoved against the table and messy, Lottie immediately stopped and helped her out. The dress she gave Tianna was nice. Usually with characters like Lottie, they put the girls like Tianna (in personality) in these tacky gowns and try to make them ugly. Lottie didn’t. I respect that. And agree with you about your point with Lottie and Naveen. She was so happy for Tiana and Naveen and did not even think she was sacrificing something. While Lottie is still looking, she is content being by herself for a while. Without trying too hard, they made the feminist film everyone is trying too hard to make. They gave the two women differing personalities and allowed them to be best friends who love and support each other. They are also not man haters which I appreciate too.

@SevenEllen
@SevenEllen 2 года назад
@@williampearson6299 Quite. I couldn't help noticing how dull Tiana's personality is in comparison with Lottie's. Why couldn't Tiana be really funny and energetic? Is Disney trying to sell us the message that 'perfect' women are only a bit funny now and then, rather than really funny, like their characters they reserve to be comic relief? Lottie doesn't just steal every scene she's in with Tiara, she utterly overshadows Tiara and makes you forget she's even there.

This movie has everything and I consider it to be my second favourite Disney movie. I regularly listen to the soundtrack: banger after banger. The animation is beautiful and timeless. I've always had mixed emotions towards this film because it wasn't bad, it just perpetuated the "not letting black people be black in their own movie" (i.e. Lion King, this, Soul, Spies in Disguise, etc.) which makes me sad especially since I read the original book. Not sure if the Lion King would count. Princess and the Frog, Soul, and Spies in Disguise all have their black protagonists become creatures, animals and a spirit, during their movie and stay that way the whole time until the very end. The Lion King was actually about animals. It didn't play up being about the black experience in interviews, such as Soul, and then spend so much time with them not in their proper bodies.

I've heard this movie gets easily pushed aside over for Tangled and especially Frozen is because the first African American/black princess and prince are frogs for 80% of the movie. I saw this movie when it was released, it was visually stunning, but even I thought it would have been better if they were frogs only half the time. I think the directors went too hard on the "we need to make it realistically cultural if the protagonist is not white" when they themselves are white dudes. You can tell they had much more fun writing Lottie, the rich white girl rather than Tiana. They chose a setting and timeframe that in real life was very hard on black people and many of them were slaves, and insist on putting white people as the "rich, good people" in a story that should really be black focused. They could've just made tiana a real princess like they did with rapunzel in Tangled and keep it on a simple fantasy story, where it doesn't matter the setting, a forest is just a forest. Or remove the white influence and focus more on the black community and don't make this weird relations between rich and poor, white and black. It was a terrible decision that tiana, a beautiful protagonist was for the most time in the movie transformed as a frog. Also the swamp is not a very appealing setting aesthetically speaking, and makes a stereotype of associate black people to "dirtyness". Only at the final scene when Tiana and Naveen kiss the swamp is beautiful. Also why Naveen is not black? You can see that with Moana they learned the lesson and while being the same white directors they brought a lot of consultants and new talent to make the movie more correct to their culture. Also I know you're gonna critic me about this, but Jazz is not a very appealing genre to make music for children nor adults. You can see that the Tangled, Frozen and Encanto soundtracks are way more listened and loved because they are much more modern, easy to sing, and mostly very pop to appeal to the mainstream audience.

I don’t think the 2D animation was the downfall. I remember at the time the excitement of this film being another 2D animated film. Because they hadn’t had one in an while. I personally don’t watch this movie that much because the voodoo makes me uncomfortable. Whenever I do watch it I always skip over the voodoo parts… which is a lot of the film. I compare this to a movie like Frozen or Tangled or Moana. These are movies I will totally let me kids rewatch a hundred times a day. Because while there is magic, it’s not like dark magic if you catch my drift. I remember my little cousin had nightmares from the voodoo after watching it in the theaters. So it’s not like little little kid friendly. That said it’s not a bad film. “Almost There” is one of my favorite Disney sequences.

While her “best friend” parades around in fluffy pink dresses? It’s not a “happily ever after” without the fluffy pink dresses. How is she supposed to start a family when she’s making and serving food all day? There’s no security in that. No security = no happy ending. And it’s especially crappie they did this to the POC princess- because “don’t you dare dream bigger, little girl”. Other than that I thought the animation was beautiful

7:32 which just shows the ignorance of the masses because that's not true. It's the US that is obsessed with trying to kill off 2D animation since other countries not only still use 2D animation, but use 2D AND 3D together. That's why I'm glad that in more recent years CGI has tried to do a hybrid somewhat cell-shaded style

I liked Tiana, for the time I managed to watch the movie... The beginning with Lottie and Tiana, and then Tiana and her dad was super sweet iirc. But I get really bad secondhand embarrassment and I literally _could not_ get past the scene where Naveen tries to convince Tiana to kiss him. _Literally_ that was the worst scene ever. I tried like 3 or 4 times to take a break and come back, because that's what I usually do when I get that, but I just could not get back into it. I think it was supposed to be funny???? But it just made me want to go drown myself in the sea. And like, I know I could have just skipped past it, but I didn't have the brainpower at that time, and it ruined the whole movie for me. Like, I wanted to give it a go, despite knowing Tiana was stuck as a frog for the whole movie, and I wasn't that into that, but I just couldn't. Even just thinking about watching the movie now still makes me literally cringe just from the memory. Like, it's almost a flashback and I feel my soul curl up and try to die. I think Princess and the Frog actually traumatized me. Maybe it's also that I tried to watch a kids movie as an adult and my tolerance for secondhand embarrassment got worse with age. I dunno.

Lottie bothers me in this movie, not because of her personality, but just visually. She doesn't fit next to Tiana because she's too pink and her dresses are too big. She outshines Tiana in her own movie, and it doesn't feel like a good balance. Maybe if she was a tad less pretty, it would work, but the fact she is so gorgeous and over-the-top makes it look like 2 princesses in one princess movie. Imagine putting Aurora and Jasmine in the same movie - it would feel off-balance and it just wouldn't work.

I hate the film, sorry not sorry! Why does the film have to take place in New Orleans during the 20's in the height of racism? Why did the first black princess have to turn into from most of the movie? Just because the movie gave a slight nod to racism doesn't make it deep if they don't go all the way through acknowledge the root of the problem, which Disney would never! Then why bring it up? The movie didn't HAVE to take place in New Orleans why not have a made up kingdom somewhere and have a black princess as the lead and not be turned into an animal. Lets see her have her adventure, learn her lesson and find her prince! The movie doesn't have to be THAT deep but fun for little black girls to see themselves on screen!

Weardly enough, this movie just never stuck with me? I mean, it's not a bad movie. The characters are decent, mainly becouse of their interactions with each other. Characters like Navin and Tiana would have been kind of hard to sit through if it wheren't for their interactions with each other becouse Tiana is so "stoik", for a lack of a better word, and "no nosense" that it sometimes almost seems cold, and Navin is an over confident womenizer. The side characters would be insuferable on there own as well. The crokodile comes of stupid as a prick, the firefly...exists (though his love story is equaly stupid as it is cute) and even Lotti, while beeing one of the better characters, could come off as just "to much" and over the top if she where alone. But the interactions between all of them balance them out a bit, and the character development over the movie is nice, mainly for Tiana and Navin. The songs are decent, though I can only remember 4 of them, from aparantly 10 (acording to google). The animation was good. Verry pretty especially in the more "magical" scenes, and of course during the songs. The vilain is creativ, and over all probably the thing that people remember best about this movie. Ultimately, I think that it didn't stick with me was some sort of mix between me not liking the characters as much as I like characters in different movies, and the general story. I always have the feeling that storys where the characters go on literall journeys and change lokations a lot, would be better suited as a series than as a movie. There are only a view animated movies that I can think of that made a long journey work. Movies like Mulan, or Moana for example. Mainly becouse they made the passage of time something that the viewer could reasonably grasp. In Princess and the Frog, I really could from the top of my head tell you if they where on that journey for 1 day, or a week. I'm pretty sure there was a plot point about how much time they had left, but that I can't even grasp a feeling for a rough gues eather tells a lot about my memory, or about the movie handeling the passage of time less than great xD I think a big reason is also that many of the locations, especially after Tiana becomes a frog, are simply forgetable and don't leave a mark. Only two I can remember are the tree house of Mama Odie, and the ship. There are more memorable locations when they are still human, like Tianas future restaurant, Lottis "castle" and Facilliers layer. Another question I keep asking myselfe was: did this movie need to be an adaptation of "The Princess and the Frog"? It almost seems like it would have done better if it had just been it's own thing, instead of it beeing tied to a fairy tale. Aaaand, I think those are all my thoughts? XD Most of it probably doesn't make a lot of sense to anyone, but at least I tried explaining why this movie just never stuck with me xD

i really dont think thats the case Mulan was chinese and Pocahontas was native american and both are considered classic disney movies and princesses ( moana was also very popular )

@@m.j.vazquez4720 Mulan was considered the first heroine because she doesn’t use/interact with any magic, yet managed to end a war and kill an entire army all on her own. Pocahontas, despite being in the official lineup, unfortunately is underrated and probably one of the less popular princesses because her movie actually received backlash and some hate specifically from those of Indigenous descent, but her movie is one of if not the darkest Disney movie and was more mature than its predecessors, it should’ve been rated PG or PG13. It still angers me to this day If I Never Knew You was cut out just because test audiences (little kids) got bored, and supposedly they thought the song was “too mature” and yet Hellfire was allowed in the Hunchback of Notre Dame despite the graphic imagery and how dark the song is. I feel if Pocahontas wasn’t very loosely based on a real woman, she’d be more appreciated, just change the characters’ names to make it clear it wasn’t based on or romanticizing a very dark and unfortunately real story. I think that’s part of the reason why Brother Bear was made, another attempt at properly representing Native American culture, just Alaskan and the main character doesn’t have any kind of love interest aside the sequel (which a lot of people hated, I personally kinda enjoyed) Even in the Disney princess lineup, Pocahontas is whitewashed to appear lighter and its so sickening. A ton of her outfits don’t even take inspiration from Native American culture either, literally just stuffing her with feathers. It’s similar how some complain Mulan’s outfits look more like Japanese kimonos instead of Chinese hanfus (which isn’t true, I’ve studied Japanese culture and its language some)

No. It was because she was a frog for 90% of the film.

@@kristinahuchison2511 1- eh i think Pocahontas is fine if you just except it has historical fiction and not a documentary ( it has a talking tree in it for goodness sake ) 2- also eh i dont think she looks that white washed 3- as for her clothes a quick search kinda shows it was close enough to what Powhatan women wore ( some say she should have been topless due to her age but that would be kinda inappropriate for a kids movie and they did age her up) 4- i also woulndt say it was the darkest movie in my opinion not by a long shot
