The first time Buttercup orders him, she's doing it just to order him around, the next time she's asking nicely, the third time, she's doing it just to hear him say "as you wish" aka "I love you."
I tried to watch it with an ex-girlfriend who had had shattered my life and also gave me herpes while lying about her sexual history 30 years before with deception when I was a 21 and she was 20 years older. I just wanted to stay healthy and find my "true love". I tried to watch it with her when we were being friends 30 years later. She thought the movie was stupid and boring. I turned it off after 15 minutes. I will always love this film.
This one of the only romances that people don't nitpick to death like they do with Titanic and other famous romance movies. I guess this romance just has an unbreakable charm.
When they describe their love, they only go on about how beautiful the other is. Probably more a testament to the actors than anything that they seem to make it work...
The only thing keeping this movie from perfection in my opinion is the backdrop of the grandpa reading this as a story to the kid. I feel it makes the plot less genuine if that makes any sense.
Maybe they thought it would be more difficult to sell it to an 80s audience without a modern setting. But the grandpa is Columbo, so I don’t really mind.
THIS IS TRUE LOVE, not we love woopdee freakin doopsie. Please never ever misquote my favorite movie again.. I'm no one of consequence, but also not to be trifled with.
