The Princess Diaries is Awkward Fun - Mini Movie Review 

I love that you picked up on the "female protagonist falling" in all late 90's-00's teen movies. Once you see it, you can't unsee it! 😂

Honestly her “best friend” is the most toxic person.

This movie holds a special place in my heart. I grew up very poor. My dad was laid off from his job in 2001, and we had to move into this really crappy housing. My parents were ramen-noodles-broke. But, for my 14th birthday, my mom took me to see this movie and even bought me m&m’s and a soda, which was the ultimate, extravagant splurge for us. This movie represents to me a gift that my mom literally picked up coins from the sidewalk and skipped meals to be able to afford. Wanted to add- the “deadbeat” father and grandmother were due to her selfish mother. 😬 In the movie she says something along the lines of, “I couldn’t take all of the waving and bowing. I’m too free spirited and artistic and we agreed it would be best for you to be fatherless.” Like… what? Maybe figure out you don’t like royalty before committing to it? IDK.

Never Been Kissed Drew Barrymore fits the bill of awkward female protagonist for sure

Anne Hathaway really did slip and fall on the bleachers. Also, in The Sound of Music, Julie Andrews really did trip when she was running up to the Von Trapp house. I thought it was funny that they both had real stumbles in movies where they played clumsy characters. :)

In the books the dad was alive and supposed to help her through the tasks of being a princess. But then Disney told the writer that they wanted Julie Andrews to be the grandma….and be the one to help her through the process….and the author was like “ok kill the dad, he must die idec, get me Julie Andrews!” 😂😂😂😂

This was fantastic as always but i was really sad that it wasn't like half an hour long. I need more Jamie time 😅

🙋‍♀️ As someone who read the books, the answer to why the grandma hasn’t been in the picture is that she was but she was an absolute nightmare. She was mean and awful and not Julie Andrews at all. Also I think Mia’s dad was still alive. The books are a whole different vibe.

Basically everything surrounding her hair in this movie always drove me crazy - oh right, naturally curly hair is bad so instead of saying "how can we make this look nicer/tame it a bit" WE MUST ELIMINATE THE CURL, CURLS BAD *HISSSSS*. Not to mention, even if you straighten her hair it doesn't magically stay that way, so the expectation now is that she flat irons it every day for the rest of her life or what? And no hairdresser worth his salt would come near her curly hair with that kind of brush omg 🤦‍♀️

Mandy Moore could barely play the mean girl she was always so humble and sweet

Okay, but WHY if Mia has naturally curly/frizzy hair does it not become curly/frizzy when it's soaking wet from the rain at the end? This is coming from a curly girl who knows her hair will start to curl if it gets even a little wet. AMERICA EXPLAIN. Edit: I'm talking about when she's giving the speech where she accepts her role as princess. No blow dryers, no flat irons, no styling whatsoever, and she's standing there with her perfectly straight hair.

The “your hair looks like a pack of hotdogs” line is giving me the same vibes as the “why don’t you marry it?!!” when talking about Surge. And I love it so much 😆

Great point about the “dead beat grandma”!! I always think about the same exact thing in the Parent Trap! How are they not bitter and scarred by the fact that one parent was perfectly fine never seeing you again? Still it’s one of my all time favorite movies. We have to look past all that lol

i will forever wish they would've stayed true to the books 😩 grand-mère was a terrible and very entertaining person, mia had a boyfriend she didn't like, lily's show was even more wild, mia's dad was alive, and everyone was french rather than english 🥲 anne hathaway also narrated the audiobooks and was FANTASTIC as a voice actor so at least they got that right

I hated that they thought she couldn't be pretty with curly hair. I love curly hair and I was jealous of her hair in the beginning of the movie! I thought she was so pretty. Child me was so angry that they straightened it.

My friend and I LOVED this movie. We used to rewind the part where Andrew’s is teaching her princess stuff and walks by the doorway “don’t shlump like this” over and over. 😂😂😂 I don’t know why we thought that was so funny.

I think I heard you say in a previous video that “Drop Dead Gorgeous” was on your list to do, but I don’t think you ever did it. You soooo need to do that one! It’s hilarious and has so many popular actresses kinda before they got super popular (Brittany Murphy, Denise Richards, Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams…)! And the rest of the cast is pretty magical too, especially Allison Janney! It’s seriously one of my favorite movies EVER! My sister and I constantly do the awful Minnesota accent, lol! The deadbeat thing is because her parents didn't want her to have to be a princess, so they agreed her dad and his family would have no part in her life. It's only after he gets testicular cancer ( books) or dies (movies) and can't have more kids that they're forced to drag her into it .

Apparently Christy Carlson Romano (Ren Stevens from Even Stevens and also Kim Possible) was set to play in this role, but she lost out to Anne. She made a video about it on her channel. But I could TOTALLY see her nailing this role too.

Michael was talking to Joe in the front of the limo and they also talk about how the parents decided to keep dad and fam away so she wouldn’t have to be about that princess life. Love you though, Jaime!

I still think you should review “Head over Heels”. It’s a Freddie Prinze Jr. movie. They have the female protagonists falling over and glow-up montages. It’s totally up your alley, I’m sure. And I admit, I actually laughed several times.

I love this movie! It was one of the few “girlie” movies my older brothers would watch with me. We still quote “wash your hands” from the banquet scene regularly. 😂 Please cover Princess Diaries 2 as well!

Anne Hathaway said one of her falls (the one where Lilly is ranting and they are walking on the bleachers while Joe plays basketball) was not scripted; she literally just fell there and that made it more hilarious, especially since they left it in. She was also a klutz in real life and fell off her chair when she was auditioning. Her falling wasn't always on purpose 🤣

I am a fan of not just the cliff note version movie review. I like the longer ones. You always get me to laugh and the longer you talk about the movie, the more I get a nice hearty laugh:) I love when you reenact a scene but your version lol!!

When mia takes off her hat and the class goes wild is my childhood personified. I have very thick wavy hair and anytime I wore it straight people would always be like 'oh isn't that better? You gonna do it everyday' no Bianca, it literally took two hours and my ears got burnt

I loved the princess diaries when I was a young teen, I even owned it on VHS lol 💖 so glad you reviewed this one! I could be wrong but I think her dad died a few months before? But her mom and dad divorced years before and I think he kept in touch long distance. Still doesn't explain why the grandmother didn't know her granddaughter though 🤔

I relate to being a frizzball - they called me Goldilocks on the football team. There were people called truck and chief and then there was me, Goldilocks - keeping the benches nice and warm from the sidelines, but not too warm, just right.

Yay! This movie has been a guilty pleasure of mine ever since it first came out! Skittles keyboard guy (Robert Schwartzman- Jason Schwartzman's brother) and the rest of "Fly Paper" are the real-life band Rooney! 🌠 The more you know 🌠

Several years ago I ran into the Princess Diaries book in a thrift store and I bought it. My sister and I used to watch the movie in VHS over and over again 😂 Reading the book was a really pleasant surprise!! I know that it's a cliche already, but the book series is great!! The story is different, Amelia's father is not dead, just a fool with testicle cancer who can't have more children, so that's why Mia has to be princess. Also, Lily and Mia are very nerd and more relatable and realistic than in the movie. I really recommend you to read the books if you have the chance ♥️

What I really wanna know is when are we going to get merch that says “I’m having an okay time.”? Great for any social function, whether you want to be there or not 😆

Oh gosh, you should definitely do one of the twisted girl power movies from the early 00's. Drop Dead Gorgeous or Sugar and Spice. Both are so messed up, but so quoteable!

the scene at the beach always upsets me so much . i would be traumatized. i always cried during that scene when i was a kid. i think it was also the fact that ann was supposed to be a kid but all these adults are taking pictures of her without clothes on and it just horrified me

literally one of my very favorite movies growing up! had it on VHS lol so i would just watch it on repeat in my bedroom. love you jaime, super happy to see a movie review today 💕

What I learned from that movie was that if you work really hard, if you press on... No matter what anyone says or what you look like... As long as you work hard and believe in yourself, and stay true to yourself... you too, can reach 12 viewers on cable.

I also hate Lilly, Mia talks about her dad dying and she’s like “it’s been 2 months aren’t u over that already.” Like what the actual hell.

I took my daughter and her friends for her 6th birthday to Los Angeles El Capitan Theater when it came out...Disney releases movies like this and usually has something cool attached for after the movie. This one had a tea party, and all the princesses came out and said hi ..I say all this to say, she doesn't remember a lot of things from childhood but this is a very fond memory of hers. Thanks to this movie. ❤️

I love everything you've ever produced, but my heart belongs to these 90's/early 2000's movie reviews. The epitome of these kinds of movies is Center Stage (2000). It has everything. Small town girl in the big city, pursuing her dreams, falls for the bad boy while the good boy chases her, her friend tells her mom "it's not my dream mom- it's yours!" There's a montage, and not just a dance sequence- multiple, as the whole movie is about dance students. It was Zoe Saldana's first movie role (right before Crossroads), it features Mandy Moore's "I Wanna Be With You" and it is about DANCING. Great lessons include date the nice guy not the douche, follow your dreams and believe in yourself. There literally could not be a more perfect movie for your reviews.

Haven't watched it yet, already liked it. love this movie, love you. Can't wait to watch this video in a few minutes!
