the problem is not texting. Teenagers need discipline, suspension I thought was a bit harsh, but they need to be put on place to learn respect and other values, so they dont become the stupid adults we often see during the day

This should not have happened. What was the girl doing wrong? I understand if a kid is gambling or watching pornography, but she was sending a blanged text to her MOM. ONE TEXT. Honestly, no one should have been punished. If this girl NEEDS her phone for work, then the school has no reason, even, for taking it.
That's so stupid the whole reason we're not allowed to have phones during school is so we aren't distracted from learning. If you're texting during lunch what is there to be distracted from? Like how does it affect the teachers?
This is apalling. Those rules are corrupt, as are the teachers who follow it. The student needs her phone, and it was being used only at lunch. There is absolutely no harm in that.
Speed Stacking Maniac it’s not corrupt. The student did not need her cellphone it’s a privilege not a right. She then defied authority which resulted in her losing that privilege that’s pretty fkg fair. Should she be allowed her phone during lunch sure but that’s not the rules at that school

America has the wrong rules and the wrong punishments. First off all, smuggling Tobacco into schools should not be met with a after school detention. Having a stolen fake-id should warrent more than a 1 hour detention. Meanwhile, in today's society banning social tools at school is extremely pointless.
In my school we were allowed to have our phones during lunch, in the halls, any time that we weren't actually in class. It makes no sense that a student should have their phones taken away and given such a harsh punishment for having it out at a time when they wouldn't even be missing something, especially if they're talking to somebody like their parent!
1:12 - I agree. I think that teacher should get in trouble. Even if there is a policy against cell phones even at lunch, what kind of power hungry loser runs up and gives a student the third degree about it? @@tet2122 Heck, school workers have been caught slacking on the job. The elementary school I went to after I switched from Roseville was closed down. I switched back to Roseville and finished out there.
She isn't in the wrong. If she was texting her mother, assuming it was for pick up plans or something important, she has the right to do so. She has the right to defend her honor with this information. If she was texting for a viable reason, which she was, she has the full right to not give the teacher OR the principal her phone. The principal assumes that she is going to text her friends, but she said "you can check," which proves that she is texting the right people. This principal really doesn't think logically enough.
This happen to me once. I refused to give my phone up, later my mom came up there raising hell making the principal look HELLA DUMB don’t give up your phone for texting YOUR MOM😂
Parents pay those gouging property taxes on their homes, which largely go to the public schools. The faculties and especially the $400K a year superintendents need to be reminded who's paying their salaries! Parents, they're your employees! Get on them like the bosses you are!
My school always allow cell phones before school, passing periods, at lunch, after school, and in class if were done with all of ours work. My school is not even strict about cell phones.
Seriously at my school we can have our phones out during periods lunch before-school and after-school and our teacher lets us use our phone for a calculator
There are 3 reasons (that I know of ) why some schools don't allow cell phones during breaks: students txt people who are still in class, the school is trying to protect students from theft, and the school is trying to keep students from taking pictures of each other without permission or using their phones to bully each other.
The teacher who tried to take Kate's phone and principal both should be fired and arrested for trying to take her phone during lunch time. I'm like, "Are you out of your mind?! It's lunch time! She has the right to be on her phone!"
WTF, what moronic school imposes these rules for high school students. High schoolers are not little children. They are people who are becoming adults. At my school, you can use your phone whenever you want, even in class for certain teachers if they trust the class. I am in Calculus BC and we can listen to music while working.
King. I agree that the rule is moronic. I'm an old guy who used to teach. I hated dress codes enforced on kids also. This is an example of a school that punishes EVERYONE because SOME kids abuse texting during class. What the school SHOULD do, is take away cell phones from kids who abuse the use of phones. Obviously, if you are in Calculus, you are probably okay with whatever phone you use. As a teacher I got in trouble for allowing my AP Chemistry students to listen to DVDs (I know that is old) during assignment work in class. I fought the administration and lost. So I just told my students to wear a hoodie to hide the earphones, and would just claim "I didn't know". I quit teaching because of the dumb rules I had to enforce.
Because they're going to be neck deep in our collars saying "OOOOOH, WE'VE PAID OUR DUES, WE'VE GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE, WE ARE ADULTS, WE HAVE AUTHORITY..." and a bunch of other bullcrap.
but imagine if she went out after school and then she was missing and her body was found a couple of days later? Would that principal live with the guilt that had she had her phone on her she might still be alive? I know that extreme but I cant help but to think about things like that lol

One of my friends had her phone out after 2:45PM, at 2:45PM after the bell rings, teachers won't care if you have your shirt untucked or your cell phone out, and this substitute teacher said that she cannot have her phone out at school hours, she intervened and said that it's after school hours, no-one would care, she later got called up to the office along with a teacher, and everything is cleared out and everything was a misunderstanding
At my school the teachers don't care if you text during lunch. Once I asked my principal to take my picture of my friends and I together at lunch and she did
How dare you not hand over your phone when you're not breaking any rules and some random adult just demands your property. I swear; those kinds of teacher's make school a way more tense place to be for no reason.
If you think this is bad my friend was texting his when a teacher caught him and took his phone. (His parents told him to not give his phone to a teacher.) He took his phone back.She took him to the office where his parents said the same thing as him. He was then given 3 days of ISS
This is the problem when the principal belongs to a generation away from the pupil. He is living in some remote past. To the girl, texting in the lunch hour is as normal as "blueberry pie" as you Americans say. What a wally as we say in the UK

why in the world would you no be allowed to use your phone in your BREAKS. do they ever come to think that we do things besides school we have deals we need to make people we need to talk. It shouldn't be a prison, in the end they have jobs because of us.

lol everybody at my school text at the lessons and so on, i have taken some calls under the lesson and the only thing the teacher did was getting annoyed
