Dash cam tour of Breezy Point Queens... at least what I can show of it since every road has a gate at the entrance.
This town has seen a tornado, hurricane, and fire all within two months of each other.
I hope you enjoyed, please subscribe if you did!

It's so cool all the little neighborhoods on Rockaway and all along the south shore islands. A cool one out east is Kismet near the Fire Island lighthouse. It's this little all-season hamlet. The only thing with these towns is the ever more frequent flooding. You have to be a risking gambler to consider living there.

The tornado touched town on Breezy Point on September 8, 2012. I remember that day because I went to the Mets vs Braves game at Citi Field that day and no one wanted me to go because the 5 boroughs were under a tornado warning. Was the last time I saw Chipper Jones of the Braves play.

The other Irish area is gerritsen beach. And they also have a volunteer fire dept. a lot of their homes were raised as well after sandy. Years ago my dad drove down to breezy point before all the gates were up and got his car stuck in the sand. We had to get towed lol good times. Thanks!!

Gerritsen Beach is across Jamaica Bay from there. You must know the area fairly well, because I've asked native Brooklynites about Gerritsen Beach and they have no idea what I'm talking about.

Anyone can buy a house there. You need to be recommended by three residents (shareholders), approved by the board (no one is ever turned down), and pay for the house one-third in cash.

I think that statement is a total geralization of thousands of people who live in these neighborhoods and it is false.
@carryeveryday910
@carryeveryday910 3 года назад
It’s because the community is run by the Breezy Point Cooperative, in which all residents pay the maintenance, security, and community-oriented costs involved with keeping the community private. The cooperative owns the entire 500-acre community; residents own their homes and hold shares in the cooperative. It has nothing to do with “feeling special” they’re paying for privacy and they’re getting it lmao. Ever live in a gated apartment complex? It’s the same thing on a smaller level. Gated that only residents have key fobs for community areas that only residents can use. This is the sane exact thing just an entire town.

Mooney, a friend of mine had a cabana there years ago. He used to drive my 1974 Camaro in there with me and my girlfriend hiding in the trunk of the car from right off the Marina Park bridge up to the guard booth at the cabana gate, and then right into the beach club. We didn’t have passes to get into the club so we found another way. Your video brings back memories. Oh and by the way, don’t go over that bridge on a motorcycle!
@jimmydonlon6762
@jimmydonlon6762 3 года назад
Nobody had to hide in any trunk to get into Breezy. I lived there until 1981 and went back to visit afterward. There weren't any cabanas, either. The place you're thinking about was either the Silver Gull Club (if your friend was Jewish) or the Surf Club (if he was some kind of Protestant).
@kingarthur4419
@kingarthur4419 3 года назад
@@jimmydonlon6762 Definitely not the Silver Gull. Yes, it was catered towards the Jewish community. The club that my friend was a member at had a cabana and the club was down at the end. At that time in 1977 you had to get through the main guard both if you were a resident. There was another guard booth at his surf club that you had to get past if you wanted access. At that time if you weren’t a member you couldn’t get in. This is why we hid in the trunk while my friend drove in because he had the membership.
@jimmydonlon6762
@jimmydonlon6762 3 года назад
@@kingarthur4419 I lived there in 1977. You did not have to stop at the guard booth; you could drive on that main road all the way to the Surf Club. Visitors would stop at the guard booth to pick up tokens for the electric gates to the parking lots. The people at those surf clubs had nothing to do with Breezy Point; they didn't like us (although many BP teenagers worked for them). The place where your friend brought you was either at the end of a road that ran between Fort Tilden and a bunch of abandoned unfinished apartment buildings (that got dynamited in 1978) or else at the very end of the road with a spectacular view of Manhattan.
@kingarthur4419
@kingarthur4419 3 года назад
@@jimmydonlon6762 Yes now that you mention it you can drive through that main booth. It’s been years since I’ve been there but I remember when you got off the bride, you went down that long strip to the end. The Silver Gull was on the left before you got to the end. Right before you got to the end, there was a parking lot before the cabana club guard gate, and that’s where we would park to get out and hop in the trunk. Yeah there was an open view of everything and I believe that’s where his club was.

I think those gated streets give people a false sense of security. If someone really wants in, those little bars across the road won’t stop them. If society disrespects the police the way they do today, I don’t think they’ll respect a flimsy roadblock at all. That area just doesn’t seem like it’d be a high crime location; looks like a sleepy little beach town. Wealthy North Shore towns like Great Neck, Huntington, Cold Spring Harbor, etc, I could see gated streets. Oh well, they didn’t ask me! 😂 Thanks for the tour!
