The Problem With BL Fans|Official Ships and Fan Service 

When it was officially announced that Neo has a girlfriend, aside from supporting him, there was also a part of the fans with crying comments of how Neo was theirs and NeoLuis/NeoMark forever.. It was beyond ridiculous.. 🤪 I know that the companies are taking advantage of fan service for financial reasons, but the fans have a responsibility as well to differentiate the role from the person and not overstep their boundaries. I feel in the last years things have become better on that part and the fan service isn't as intense as it was. What I see more is actors acting friendly with each other or imply something for fun with everyone being aware it's a joke. At least, that's what I'm getting..😅

In my own opinion, i like it when they change partners. It makes them grow as an actor. I've watched so many for the past 7yrs. I can see so many changes already. I am glad that there are more series now. I too want others to be respectful and always remember that these actors are also human that they have their own private lives outside their profession. I hope to see more new things. Balance reality and fantasy. We may get delulu😅 at times but, there is a limit and in moderation. For now, I enjoy and love watching without being super obsessed with a CP. Just watching and appreciate how they portray the characters that gives us butterflies and happiness. 💓🦋 Thank you for sharing this.🙏🏼😊

Personally, I don't mind the same pairings, as long as their roles are different each time. For me, different characters can offer a different dynamic even if they are played by the same actors. I just don't want to see the same characters in another universe.. 🤪

Absolutely right you are.. I think this is the hightime for fans to distinguish between Reel and the Real life.. Don't get too much invested with your delulus and that 'fanservice'..

I honestly didn't know how toxic and psychotic fans could be until I found out some "fans" wore masks with Ohm's face and took pictures with Nanon before his first solo concert a few weeks ago. That was bullying of another kind and beyond disrespectful to Nanon on such a big day. I felt so sorry for him.

I am very grateful for your video and your factual and realistic assessment of the BL scene, which I absolutely share. Many fans forget that all BL actors are normal people with a private life and have expectations of them that are not realistic. I hope many of these fans see this video and reconsider their attitude. Actors are actors.....with private life......work is work.....these two are totally different......we can see the series or movies talk about what was good or bad or the characters......we support their works and only that......are ACTORS.....nothing more nothing less......toxic fans are terrible also the companies ( not all but most of them about that fan service.....)....Everyone have a private life......and a role is a role.....For me the most important is how professionals are as actors/ actresses and not what they do in their private life......the video was good and your right.....

This was really good. I was sceptical before watching because most of what's written about these complex subjects is trite and one-sided. However, you provided a balanced and insightful treatment showing the good and bad sides of official BL ships and fan service, as well as addressing some of the ugly sides of fandom behaviour in certain circumstances.

Great video! I honestly don't see the point of Thai fan service. I love it when fans literally sit down in small events and ask questions to their idols. Such events are a win-win for both parties because fans get to know their idols as real individuals, and actors get to feel their fans' love. Like I don't need bl ships to act lovely dobby, in fact it's cringe. Instead, just tell me who you are, what you like doing, play games even to show your playful side. That will make me like you more. I blame the companies tbh, for using fan service as a way to get the most 💰 out of actors and of course, their fans. I also blame fans for their delulu but fan service is the root problem.

I agree with you 110% on each of these issues that you brought up. I am a hardcore fan of BL but I also know that these are actors and their performing to a script. And that's the extent of it. I also agreed that there's too much fan service but then again it's up to me how much of that fan service I want to watch on RU-vid or on the Internet. The people who get angry over people Changing Partners or having relationships in their private life need to get a life themselves because if they are thinking that their favorite BL couple's are real than they may need to seriously chill out and maybe even get some counseling. glad you had the strength to redo this video. the Thai BL industry and their tendency to form 'ships' for several different projects has a lot of downsides. personally, most Thai ships didn't work for me. only MaxTul and TayNew never got old. many BL fans are very young and learning to differentiate between what is what takes a certain maturity and some fan service isn't helping in that regard. it seems however, even very explicit fan service like they sometimes do in Taiwan, doesn't generate any problems when actors are paired up differently for the next project because the fans never expected them to work together for years.

(1) You made several very valid points; what I particularly liked was that they were not some loose, separate remarks, but were properly tied together, one leading to another. (2) Fully respecting your opinion on BL ships I’d like to offer some possible explanations on why they work - why the audience seems to like the same pairings appear again and again - as this subject intrigued me. A possible explanation is that ships allow for a continuation of a story people liked - which they usually don’t get, as most BL series consist of a single “season” and the story is over by the time a relationship is formed (one specific example which comes mind are MaxTul and their appearances as Korn and Knock in “Bad Romance”, “Together with Me” and “Together with Me: The Next Chapter”). This explanation for BL ship popularity is clearly insufficient, as only some of the ships appear in more than one show cast as the same characters, but comments like “hope they’ll make season 2” appear under nearly every final episode of successful BLs. A continuation is just one possible variant of another possible explanation of ship popularity: people want more of the same. For some (like you) repetition is boring, but for many it’s reliving the same good stuff all over again - but with a tweak or twist. I also noticed that BL ships are often treated like an entity of its own, separate from its parts, almost like a character actor (consisting of two people) or a team which can be employed to portray specific roles - like becoming a couple. Also, it seems, ships are more than just a sum of their parts - popularity of individual actors is eclipsed by the popularity of the ship they form. Like in sports: some like individual athletes, but most have favorite teams - and they do not mind that most games look the same. (3) OhmNanon was - at least for me - different from other popular ships: both actors were popular before they formed the ship, Ohm had considerable BL experience and - as you noted - was paired with other actors before, while for Nanon “Bad Buddy” was his sole BL role. OhmNanon did a very good job in the series, but when it came to the post-series show (“Ohm Nanon Upvel”) most of the charm and chemistry was gone. The level of fan service was also lower than what could be expected from a superior ship like that (not to mention the actors having a supposed falling-out); eventually, for whatever reason, there was no OhmNanon anymore. They did reunite for “Our Skyy 2”, but that was it - they went their separate ways. Weird that people do not recognize and/or acknowledge that - especially that it did not happen yesterday. BTW: why are people angry that Ohm was paired with Leng, but have no problems with Ohm and Nanon starring in non-BL series, including romantic parts? Or maybe they do get angry because of that?

About the theme of same pairing verus different pairing: I'm 50%-50%. I do love when my favs (Film/Jam; Off/Gun, for example) appear in a new series if the new character is totally different from the previous or the last time was a year ago, more or less. But also enjoy seeing them with different pairings like Gawin and Ohm are doing and would be fun to see Gun with, for example, Mike and Off with Plustor. For me the important is the story and if they repeat the pairing or not or if they use the same actors but with different pairings... I just don't care and will enjoy the series.

I have no problem with fixed ship. As a South Asian I've seen actors (not bl) willingly working together as a couple more than once. What bothers me more is the fanservice. I'm sick and tired of actors and fans blaming it on fans like isn't it victim blaming. I know toxic fans exist *cough* Ohmnannon fans who still make dramatic edits. But this needs to stop. Actors like Firstkhao, tacopper and milespo (to some extent) don't do fanservice and I really appreciate that.

I may be an victim in the same pairing but it’s only for their chemistry ON SCREEN😭 , but when it comes to off screen (fan service) I’m never a fan I rarely watch those vids like “he was jealous but some other actor looked at his partner” like y’all get a damm life! I’m only happy to see them on screen doing there jobs and serving the story but never a fan of their off camera cuz I know it’s all a fan service! And I’m also totally fine with my favorite ships having their own partners in real life cuz I love them as actors and actors only but off screen they are no ships for me

Talking about ship changes, I am reminded of Jimmy who played the role of Mhok in The Last Twilight. He said during an interview with a podcast crew that he would like to work with Gun Attaphan in a new series. That would be a very interesting pairing.

I also don't really find it cute when bl fans love possessive behaviour between these actors as an act of fan service, there was one video of an bl actors behind the scenes and him being possessive that his fellow partner was wearing a tank top, while he did it all the time. Like that's just not cute. Telling someone they don't want them wearing things. I've never liked possessive behaviour bc in reality it's really toxic and controlling. Never been cute to me idk.

Well said! Thanks for this. We all have our favourites and *most* of us appreciate these people are actors many of them working hard to bring us stories we enjoy. Personally I dislike the overdone fan service and we have witnessed what can and does happen when the pairing finally splits. Studios and artists should consider the impact of their post production activities.

Repeated ships are so annoying and the only one that does it right is Taiwan in my opinion cause you don't see repeated couples constantly and the stories are 9 out of ten very different

Recently when bright confirmed his relationship with Nene many the comments had been DYING out of laughter, a comment literally wrote “this relationship is fake yall Nene is faking it and it’s clear! She dosent look as happy with as much as how win was with bright they have a genuine laugh she is faking it” and ofc the typical “win must be so hurt by this😢” like ofc not! They were best friends I honestly never felt any way of romantic feelings when they were together and speaking of bright and Nene y’all are crazy it’s not always that u have to be all lovey dovey in front of the camera for fans means they love each other I wish these toxic bl fans can respect their actors personal life’s and their partners too!

Very well presented. I love BL series and am extremely grateful to the actors for using their talents and abilities to present realistic gay relationships and positive "role models" (even if the advisory at the beginning of each says they're not 🙂) However, I take "fan service" with a few teaspoonfuls of salt, try to avoid projecting (shipping?) anything further about relationships and real life ... just know that if I see actors I know in new roles, I will be able to enjoy the new performances as well.

OMG lm glad someone else has my point of view. Seriously this has to reach Thailand Bl film makers. They have to change the ships. Thai Bls are no longer interesting coz of the repeated ships. Two Worlds is interesting coz of the GunNat ship even if they still go back to MaxNat but it's not even necessary. Thailand has to stop pairing these actors all the time. We want new chemistry. Some of the pairs do not even fit with the series anyways. In Hidden Agenda Joong was good as Joke but Dunk wasn't very fitting for his role and he didn't do well. The same can be said for MeenPing in My Gangster Oppa.

Permanent pairing/ships is literally type casting and its nice but like you said its cringe when people start harassment and the same old same old relationships with nothing new.

I don’t mind the repeated couples. But I don’t like the lazy writing or acting. If you’re going to be a couple in another drama the plot and characters need to be completely different. I don’t want wash rinse repeat. Also, I agree it does create problematic fans, who get so obsessed with it.

I certainly like Official BL ships with good chemistry. I also like some pairings that are not official, but brand new. Doesn't have to be one way only.Ohm for example has worked with many others and he has done incredibly well, Singto is another example. Whether an actor prefers the same partner or not is an individual decision in my book, not my choice. what I do have a choice in is which shows I choose to watch. Fanservice is salesmanship. Marketing. It can be nice, but also problematic if viewers are too immature and overly invested. We should be realistic and grown up as consumers, and not expect to be coddled with absolutely truthful everything all the time, nor expect all the details of any actors private life. The actors and their companies are selling us a product we can enjoy if we choose to. We need to be grown up enough to know that. This is just like what happens in industries like Kpop, where they sell the closeness of group members, even giving them official names like Minsung, Woosan, JiKook, etc. to entice listeners to ship the singers. No different. In fact in SK some of the BG members have starred in BL series. Definitely see a problem with many fans who have become insanely invested. The level of toxicity is unbelievable, they can be unreasonably vengeful, feeling entitled to destroy the actors or other fans. I don't feel that the problem is always rooted in the Official Pairings system. It is fiction and the problem is with the fans who react in crazy ways, attacking others whether that be actors, other fans or companies. Respect goes a long way and the behavior that we see is partly because of SNS and not having to directly face a person you are attacking. Being polite and respectful is crucial even if we have disagreements.

Using neo and mark as a example of why they dont get backlash is because they dont do fan servixe is not the case they are not made offcial unlike ohmnanon its different . The offcial couples get a big push and thats why fans go crazy trust if those sameones get official status and merch and get a yesr or two of investment and a ohmnanon situation happen the same after effects would too 😂 its like dang we wete in the door now its gone because us Neomark fans and any other gmmtv ghost ship CP fandom knows how it feels to see a slight push then go dark moment back to a slight push back to dark too theyre with another partner for the moment 😂its like whiplash

I too feel like actually these official cps deprive us more than serving us content. For example lets talk about firstkhao. We all know first and khao both started from different partners. Till before the eclipse i believed in podd khao and gawin first to have such good chemistry. but i was shocked when the eclipse trailer itself dropped cause wow.

There is nothing new under the sun, and when you look at old Hollywood the studios paired couples for several movies or created relationships to boost careers. Gay actors would have hidden lives and partners. I think the difference is the informal style of presentation, often childish gives it some sort of reality, not a presentation for money. If you see Western actors interviewed its about their experinces and craft, it's really hard to find Tai or Korean actors in any genre being interviewed sensibly, they are just as skilled and committed.

I loved the video, and I agree on all the points you made, at least to a certain point. Maybe I see things differently to other people, as I did a bit of acting when I was younger, but I think that if actors want to work with the same partner multiple times, then they should be allowed to without being looked down on...........should they be forced.......NO! but should fixed pairings if that's what the actors want, be allowed.....yes! For some actors, finding that person who you can be emotionally and visibly vulnerable on screen with isn't easy, and when you do it's good to stick with them. Especially with the growing amount of mature series coming out of Thailand.......it's not easy to get yourself in such a headspace if you don't know or trust your scene partner, even for experienced actors. Now onto the fans. I am a firm believer that people are responsible for their own behaviour......and yes, Thailand does a lot of fan service, especially for established ships, but fans need to take responsibility for keeping fantasy separated from reality. Actors are doing a job, and if they are doing it very well you can almost believe it........but it's all fake and until anything official is said that anyone is together, then fans need to take fan service for what it is......and extension of the actors job! Concerning the actors public lives and fans getting far too invested in their chosen ships.......part of that has to be down to the growing popularity of BL drama worldwide, and also younger fans basically living on the internet without really understanding the world. To some fans the world of the internet, and the fantasy of BL is reality.....but that is not the actors nor the industries fault, it is the fault of the society which allowed this to occur. Sadly it will never happen, but acting, singing, and all celebrities should have their privacy protected.....just like with the rest of us, their family, sexual orientation and who they are dating, is no one else's business but their own. I can't remember who said it, but I heard a great line a while back saying that if someone wanted to follow a celebrity then they should 'take a step closer to their work, while stepping away from their private life' Ok that was a bit longer than planned....

i dont think the fan service will go any where just yet, until a true out cry to stop it occurs. its going to have to be us that helps change this. by appealing to the companies. sometimes they listen to us. now bl ships: i have seen off gun, joongdunk, and pondphuwin playing in different series, but they eventually play together again. i believe this gives them more experience in the industry of actors. plus they seem to be building true friendships by being together. so im sure if they want to work other places they usually do. ive seen it. Offtopic: i use to watch young and the restless for years. victor and nikki where my faves. it worked for a while the material was fresh and i didnt get bored. the same is said for these actors. give them scripts that will keep us coming back if they want to keep it going. the industry needs to remarket these actors as people not objects. they dont belong to us the perform for us.
