Hillsdale College grad here! My heart went pitter-patter when I heard the shout out! I'm so grateful for the free online courses -- it's a practical solution for furthering my education while I have teeny kiddos.
@@AntonAchondoa Quite so, yet usually that’s where separation is needed - to attempt to renounce one’s actual oath of allegiance shames pious children deeply.
@@alphaquickship176 I'm incredibly sorry to hear this and I can't imagine your pain. I wish you peace and strength at this time. However, I respectfully have to maintain my stance. Sometimes divorce is really the best option, especially in cases of abuse, or when one or both partners refuse to change their unhealthy behavior, or lack the self-awareness to do so. Staying in such a relationship could just create an environment that encourages or at least enables people's worst tendencies. Even if divorce ought not be the rule, it also ought not be banned or dismissed as a solution. Relationships are complex and some need to end for the greater good.
2:41:00 Spanish speaking priests, clergy, laymen and parishioners are soooo sparse here in Southern Arkansas. My pastor is split between three parishes each Sunday, celebrating at least four masses each Sunday because there aren’t enough priests here. It’s heartbreaking and really tough. Shout out to Father Jeff from Little Rock - a visiting priest who speaks English and Spanish and has changed the lives for good of my fiancé and myself! Dios les bendiga a todos quienes están aquí escuchando el podcast de Pints with Aquinas! Love y’all and Mother Mary, pray for us. ❤
Gosh! It would be great to have Dr. Aarn on your show. I have no sway with him…if he hasn’t come on your show by the time Parents Weekend comes around in the fall, I’ll mention it when I see him. 😉 Glad to know HC online courses have been a blessing to you and so many others.
48:30 just have to say my dentist’s art is actually very interesting, to me at least 😂 His whole waiting room is covered in a beautiful mural of the Irish countryside with other Irish decorations and books around. And while you’re getting your cleaning, you watch a slideshow of more beautiful scenes of Ireland. ☘️☘️☘️
@@deirdrecoulter5823 - I hadn't been there for a while and I was just there on Thursday (getting a crown- fun!) and i walked in and thought- "This HAS to be the same dentist as the other RU-vid Deirdre." hahaha!
I wondered about that before… The way I figured, this is a dude show… Made by a dude primarily for dudes… It’s Pints with Aquinas… All are welcome here, but there’s a LOT of resources for women out there already… Purposefully so since the 70s… Nowadays, it’s so hard to find Catholic resources for men by men… When I need a feminine perspective from a show, I go to other resources… His wife for starters is good start…
I wonder what he would think of people who want to live among thier own race. Not think of them as lesser but recognizes difference and has no desire to deal with them.
Well that’s racist and pretty stupid. That’s literally Judaism idea of non gentiles and gentiles. Jesus would not be the same race as you as he was Semitic (Jew) so only Arabs and Jews would be part of his race.
@@awiljama1944 I see your taking general pratt's line. He called the native Americans racists for not wanting their children sent to the schools of foreigners, for not wanting to intermarry with those foreigners, and wanting to maintain their own culture. I don't think other races are bad. I don't even think they have nothing to offer me. I just don't care to give up my culture to get along with thiers. As far as Jesus not being the same race as me. There are things that go beyond race and culture. When the creator of the universe and all the nations comes as the son of a particular nation it doesn't mean I should become a jew nor does it require me to trade with them or go to their schools or allow their people to rule my country. Especially 2000 yrs later and especially when a majority of the people who claim to be the same race as Jesus rejected him. I would love Jesus to become the king of my country because the fact that he is the son of the creator of the universe is a far more important thing than the fact that his mother was a jew.
@@Greasy__Bear I don’t know if this is necessarily the right approach to it, I don’t want to misinterpret you but it seems like you’re proposing a type of segregation.
@@Deto4508 sort of. In my experience it's natural for people to self segregate based on both race and culture. I just think it should be acknowledged and considered acceptable. Now it's like we are not allowed to prefer to live next to people, and send our children to schools that are the same race as ourselves. Sometimes that may involve being frigid and unwelcoming to outsiders. That should in theory be the limit of discrimination on racial lines.
@@Greasy__Bear I agree with it being more natural to interact and find more in common with someone that shares the same race and culture with you, I would say that’s pretty normal and totally fine. Even if you personally didn’t have the desire to engage with people of different race with you, although unfortunate, is your choice. I think I may have misinterpreted your original statement though in you proposing it as the way society should be and perhaps go back to, but it seems to be more of your preference, if I’m not mistaken.
As a new Catholic convert who is of African descent, Deacon Harold is such a holy and inspiring example of how I want to be as a Catholic man. I might consider the Diaconate as I get closer to age 30 too (I’ve got five years haha). What a great example of a servant-leader full of the Truth of Jesus Christ and his holy Church. God bless him! St. Augustine, Ven. Augustus Tolton, St. Benedict the African pray for us 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
What a beautiful soul Deacon is. Thank you Matt for this interview. Im a social worker and I am searching for a Catholic perspective on this topic of CRT and racism. Can’t wait for his book
My love toward all people is born from MLK speeches in the 60’s. Especially his “I have a dream…that all men, women & children be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. MLK was one of my childhood heroes🙏❤️🇱🇷
"it's about changing hearts and souls, not just institutions". Exactly. Amazing. So many of our problems are cultural and interpersonal, no matter what rules or programs you make, they won't help until we truly open our hearts to Christ's love.
really great conversation. I was not expecting it to be so long and just started listening, and was pleased to find 2 and half hours had gone by and it was still just as engaging as when it began.
(First ever RU-vid comment!) I’d really recommend reaching out to Fr. David Abernethy at St. Phillip Neri in Pittsburgh, PA. He’s been reading the fathers since the 80s, is involved in youth ministry, has a great sense of humour, and has a great radio voice - all interests of Matt! Also thank you for everything you all do. Blessings from the Coptic Orthodox Church! Christ is risen!
I'm always so happy to see Copts (is that the right term?) in the comment section! Out of all my brothers and sisters in Christ (whom I love very much of course), I've always had a special place in my heart for the Coptic people! What I admire so much is your resiliance against the atrocities that your people have to endure in your home country... You are all in my prayers! Blessings from a Roman Catholic 😇🙏🏻
Incredible. The longer I listen the more people I share it with. 😅 Matt keep up the good work and the incredible speakers and the long talks! It’s so rare I find something I want to listen to for 3 hours straight (and am left wishing it was longer). That’s how I know y’all are speaking capital T TRUTH! Love being a Catholic convert 🥳🥳
Wow Deacon was on fire. Don't try to listen on 1.25! The Genesis marriage stuff was amazing. Great to see Deacon. I was part of the Morning Glory family, (as a listener only) which ended in a rather traumatic divorce after lots of family quarreling. Deacon was the peace maker trying to keep the family together for which I was so grateful ❤
Hi Hannah, you and I are watching the same stuff. I love Deacon Burke Sivers, I was gutted when they cancelled his coming to NZ for the Eucharistic Convention.
@@janebriant-turner1851 Jane! Yes that's right we thought we were going to get to meet him. This is the first time I've met someone I know in a comment section 😅. I'm sure he won't see this but Deacon come to NZ, we're still waiting for you!
I am protestant. As someone who has grown up in the 'evangelical world' and become more and more convictionally set on a reformed protestant heritage I have been astounded by 'big evangelicalism' capitulation to this like CRT. Two great books from some of my protestant brothers on the issue of the self and the current Ideologies that are involved with the modern conception of the self would be Carl Truman's Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self and Voddie Baucham's Fault Lies. In fact, the Deacon here sounds like he may have read Voddie Baucham's book. It is refreshing to hear that many Roman Catholics are catching on to the mess that the church must confront. Great conversation.
What a great interview, thanks Matt and Deacon Harold. I loved the deacons discussion about the 'crunchy woman in Portland. Just another contradiction in the pro-abortion world.
“Colleges are teaching students what to think, not how to think”. Thank you! “Jesus walked up a hill to die on it; if I have to do the same thing, so be it because I have the truth.” AMEN!
I’m Aussie it’s Friday prior 06:00. Fed cat etc am sitting with second coffee. I saw you had on display Australia’s First Saint. 💕💕💕 Am settled for a great video. I learn heaps of being a Catholic, watching channels like yours. 👍👍 Baptised 2015 I’m now 68 (birthday 24/05). Have ceased going to two parishes due to WOKE. As a recent convert I noticed the absence of Catholic focus. Last year, I spoke to a person regarding a ‘set’ of lessons held on Catholic school grounds in a room off the foyer of the church. How I was waiting for a Catholic perspective, that NEVER CAME. Anyway now going to sit and watch. (Through mobile to TV it’s great) 🙏🏻🙏🏻✝️✝️🇦🇺
Thank you Matt! Great questions to spur on the many topics covered! Your variety of guests has helped guide build strengthen my new understanding of Catholic faith! Thank you!
What resources does Deacon, or others, recommend to learn more about being a Deacon? Books/videos/etc. Interested in learn more about the process and joys/hardships of being a Deacon.
I want to work at a Catholic school, but they won't hire me cause I don't have some stupid degree, I wish I knew back then that Catholic schools don't have enough Catholics to teach classes, I would've done that job but I was taught and believed that getting a teaching job would make me broke and have trouble finding work.
Very interesting guest. I especially liked how he handled the talk with the pro abortion girl. Inspiring. Just one thought, I think considering the current situation and the marxist propaganda our children are subject to we need to talk less about racism with our children actually (even debunk leftists lies). Besides I think people thrive more in an homogeneous environement. But Im French. As European we have probably a different history than America ... Still race is used by the left to keep power and this is just not an issue in estern Europa because not so much immigration. God created different race and we need to value those différences... Even if we are all brothers in the eye of God...
I have serious doubts about his talk with that girl. A lot of the details seem a little too convenient. And I am curious what leftist lies about racism you would like to see debunked? I'll agree with you about people being better in a homogenous environment, but with what makes races different and that you think should be valued? If your answer is different traditions, that is culture, and ill generally agree. But these two don't appreciate people who may not practice noon Catholic traditions.
I spit out my morning tea when I saw the duck embryo impression. Y'all praise God my work laptop didn't get ruined. But thank you for the morning pick me up!
On the diet thing, all that really matters is that it works for your physiology. I've been on keto, semi-carnivor for four years now, and it really works for my body. What really made a big difference for me was intermittent fasting; I just did that last summer and lost 25 pounds in just two months, and that was after feeling great on keto. I'm actually almost skinny now. Haha!
Can't say much about CRT but racism is not defined by personal anecdotes or how one feels. Not all people of the dominant culture are racist but many are ok with supporting people in power who clearly ARE racist including in the church. When people are still uncomfortable with seeing Yeshua as anything other than a European, when this is clearly historically inaccurate, that's a problem.
OMG! I am taking the same course on Aristotle's Ethcis! Hillsdale presents it in such a delectable way. It's blows my mind that more people do not know about it.
Is stereotyping the same as oredjudice? I think stereotyping is assuming things about someone based on appearance and characteristics and oresjudice is making a judgement about someone based on appearance and characteristics.
I believe prejudice is always a bad notion/ assumption where as a stereotype is more broad and not always bad (like Asians being good at math?) I could be totally wrong. Maybe that’s prejudice LOL
Such a great true man and person in the faith. All parishes need an example like him to speak out and show true love but hold firm to the truth and faith.
1:03:03 Matt is absolutely right that everyone makes these shorthand assumptions about the world, and we cannot function without them. Those assumptions are called heuristics. They help us navigate the complexity of life so that things are manageable. Heuristics are not a bad thing. We just need to be mindful, as Deacon points out, that they’re not always correct and can easily lead to entrenchment of stereotypes. And heuristics are also not automatically “racist” or bigoted at all. We all hold a million such shorthand assumptions without any kind of disdain or malice towards the “other.” If we hold this view of human interaction, then suddenly *everything* is “racist” and bigoted. And then our whole culture falls apart, because we are telling people that using their common sense and making informed assumptions based on past experiences is inherently evil. Which is nonsense.
I worked throughout High School, not full time, except summer, and I say how far ahead this put me from my peers in terms of maturity than those who had not worked or had been given everything.
Matt thank you! What a great interview with Deacon Harold! He's an inspiration and his message needs to permeate our Church. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for your call and message through Deacon Harold. We ask that you continue to bless, protect and encourage him and his family. Amen.
I have questions. Where did you get your information? Did you consider interracial breeding or the division of minorities into more specific sub genres? And finally, How did you claim this all just to abortion?
A great interview. I am relieved for the break from inter-denomination proselytising! I can not say I agree with everything the Deacon had to say but it it is food for thought. Peace and love in Jesus Christ :-)
Did you know that WWII Black veterans and descendants are STILL not allowed GI bill benefits? Can you imagine teaching WWII and GI Bill and not mentioning that 1 million Black veteran were excluded. There is a bill in the house and senate to change this. Authentic CRT seeks to uncover and remedy these inequities caused by systemic racism.
my most sincere friends are all from another ethnicity..!! Loaded with more empathy, loyal, kindness, and true christian spirit!!Manila, India, Ireland,Austrialia, Trinidad, Hong Kong, Malaysia. Poland Hungary, Checz.Republic.. different races, GOD is colour-blind, HE LOVES us all. I wrote a poem about that...
57:00 I used to chastise myself for "wasting time" getting in pissing contests in comment sections... but my Husband and I are legislative delegates for our district, and we are very active with our public schools, and we both work full time which brings us into many conversations and debates where we really need to be ON POINT with our facts and logic and be eloquent and succinct and powerful with our speech and writing. I realized one day that I was able to debate dissention on the fly BECAUSE I WAS IN PISSING CONTESTS in comment sections!! I realized that you get every imaginable angle from the trolls and opposition, from every age group, every background, etc. So when I'm confronted with some craziness at work, on the street, or at the legislature, I'm usually pretty well prepared!! The Deacon's trump card was LITERALLY the card he had in his pocket. It wasn't HIS card, it was the Pope Paul Institute card. The most invaluable thing he did was challenge her to THINK FOR HERSELF. It might take minutes, it might take years, but he didn't tell her WHAT to think, he simply inspired her to do her own investigation and decide for herself. THAT IS THE BATTLE. ❤
There will always be racist people and people that dislike different people- this is a fact; and no matter the amount of CRT or Marxism they try to implement that fact won’t change. I was born and raised in communist Cuba and there were racist people and people disliking different people in a country with people with the same nationality and background.
Amazing. No matter the college degrees, training, life experiences, humility, family status, some people still only see color and a type, and not a person. #grabbedherpurse SMH
@1:26:31 I'm disappointed that he still hadn't seen the leaked body cam video of Floyd being politely told to get out the car by the officer while Floyd was tweaking and saying "I can't breathe" before even being put to the ground. It's sad that many still have not seen that video.
Matt I have learned so much from you and your guests and feel so blessed to have found your channel. Please know how much of a difference you are making in people's lives. God Bless you and your family.
I think this interview does a near-perfect job of casting in full perspective the good and bad parts of CRT. This movement is onto something - they really are! - but there are just a couple spots where the marxist influence is too thick.
But almond milk is processed....compared to fresh milk. But great going, but yes do what works for you. It's about discipline, self control, sacrifice.
I imagine that Jesus and his disciples thought very little about managing their diets. They had the built in advantage of walking everywhere the went…so called modern life with its comforts and conveniences can and are obstacles to living a Gospel life, perhaps why Saint Francis preached Lady Poverty so often
Weird, When I am not eating enough meat based proteins, everything falls apart, my digestive system is always been healthy, except when i am not eating enough meat. My joints and my health has been so much better when I am eating plenty of meat, guess what Jesus says is true, eat according to the faith you have been given. Secular atheistic humanism is something which is worthwhile to cut out of our diets.
2:33:00 To add to your data, critical race theory is pretty popular at my nominally Christian left-leaning university in Iowa. It's not usually referenced by that name, but the tenets match with certain bits of curriculum and training.
@@mariac364 yes, I went to Mt. Mercy. I remember taking a very CRT-heavy course and getting really into the ideology for a while. It led me down a really bad rabbit hole of Marxism and feminism. This is before I came to Christ and converted to Catholicism.
@@Seliz463 Gotcha, sure. I'm at Coe, and the CRT undercurrents can get pretty bad there. There's an internal back-and-forth between Christian ideals and traditions of old, and the school now priding itself on its "inclusivity", and general wokeness.
14:10 Quite poor response, since ox is quite different specie than human. We are totally unsuited to eat grass like horses or bulls, who are also very strong.
