This has zero to do with technology and everything to do with corporate greed. Please do not tiptoe about Dexcom's responsibility in the matter .
@ForceFreeTrainergirl06

I have always had the view that Dexcom is greedy. Dex doesn't last as long as libre 1 or 2, and has always required (til recently) a receiver etc. and that costs more money. If the Libre 2 can be a full CGM with readings every minute to my phone, with alarms and last 2 weeks, surely Dexcom could have adapted to this kind of tech? This is one of the reasons why I have not gone over to Dexcom.

I suspect there might be a regulatory issue as well since the G7 might not yet be approved in all countries. Which is why I fear you can’t really systematically use a phone purchased abroad and use an iCloud/GooglePlay account from there as a workaround since the app itself might not be available in all countries.

@@korventeenyes like the abott freestyle app can't be downloaded in my country but this isn't ok because until last month it was the only cgm available sometimes here

Hi, thanks for your videos. I am a Canadian and spent last winter in Texas. We extended our stay and so I needed to buy another sensor. I could not access Dexcom Canada to order a sensor as that is geofenced, which was very frustrating. I could not buy one there because all the pharmacies I went to wouldn't sell one without a prescription, which I don't use in Canada. I had to have a family member buy one in Canada and mail it to me. The Canadian sensors did work flawlessly while in the US.

It is time for legislation to impose open sourcing of the API's used for these medical devices. Patients can only benefit from this! Geofencing medical device applications... it shows how sick these companies are to do that just for more profit or collect more data. I don't need my medical date on the dexcom cloud! I can run and want to run my own servers.

Here in Australia we still don't have it, it's outrageous that we have to go through this every medical thing the TGA is sooooo slow that it usually takes 2 years after America to get stuff approved

2 years is generous. Most things take much longer. The dexcom g7 was released in 2022. It’s 2024 and we are still waiting. I’ve given up on watching diabetes ’tech news’ because by the time the tech gets to Australia it’s already old
@craigclark5845

Agree they are slow but I think you might find they don’t submit it for approval to the TGA as fast as they should

you are not alone. Here in Canada we are around 18 months to 2 yrs behind Europe and the USA. It's all the more frustrating to hear everyone talking about new tech that we cannot use. At last the Omnipod 5 has been approved in Canada, about two months ago, but Insulet say they are not ready to distribute it yet. Talk about frustrating. We had to wait a long time for the G7, a long time for the Libre and then the Libre2. I believe we only have access to the Dex or the Libre CGMs in Canada and none of the others that are available in the rest of the world.

I have a G7 and traveled to Ireland and Portugal with no issues. iPhone SE (3rd gen) with cell data off, WiFi calling on and a WiFi hotspot. There are a number of free VPN's and some low cost ones - both of which I have on my phone for when the hotspot is charging and am using hotel's WiFi.

I am in Canada and just contacted Abbot to ask on whether I could buy a sensor in various overseas locations like Asia, Europe, Africa etc and answer I got was NO - Canada sensor/Canada app ONLY. I did not ask if US would work but they explicitly said Canada only so very tight control. That is really frustrating as I wouldn't mind buying a sensor where ever I am if need be on travel. Does not solve the app issue but in my years of using Libre I've not had the app fail so less concerned about that. As for VPN a bit tech but all should get a "tech friend" and learn it. As for picking a Canada server to then download the app from that - might work but might not. Guess the last is what you raised - buy local sensor and device or sensor and local app with local language help from a person there - way cheaper and disappointing than going home. Just another damn cost of being a diabetic. Sheez. Talk about frustrating.

Thanks! New to the channel. Type 1 for 50 years and for the last 10 eating low carb, high protein, moderate fat. I’ve been MDI for the past 6 years but now that I have insurance I’m interested in going back on a pump. My last a1c was 5.2. Where do I even start considering which pump and how loops work?

If you run a VPN such as NordVPN, in which you can SELECT THE VPN SERVER LOCATION, and you set that VPN to your home country location, would you then be able to overcome geofencing and download? NVM. Answered AFFIRMATIVELY at 19m23s into video.

I guess one of the main reasons it's different in Europe or Canada is that our measurements are in a different system to the USA? Is that one of the things that makes a difference? As an Omnipod user in Canada, when my Eros PDM went wrong and was out of guarantee, I purchased one on Ebay in the UK (in the UK a new PDM was 250 pounds, as opposed to $500 in the US and $6,500 in Canada. ) It worked perfectly well with Canadian Eros Omnipods. I could not have bought one from the USA. I am about to start looping come the middle of August. I have to go over to the Dexcom G7 from the Libre2 (and I hate the idea of it and wish I could avoid it) with my Omnipod Dash which I've been using since the Dash appeared). The 5 has been approved but Insulet are not ready to distribute so we are left hanging here in Canada, as we always are with new tech. The only place I usually travel to is back to the UK from Canada , so I am concerned about Geofencing should the app go wrong while I'm there. I have had no worries with the Libre2. I confess I've never had my phone go wrong or lost apps while in the UK. I do not understand why Dexcom made this G7 with geofencing, and are saying they have "investigate it". Why have it with geofencing in the first place if other Dex products aren't geofenced. Why geofencing? What purpose does it serve? I honestly don't understand it. However, I do use Nord VPN and I can install it on my phone. One of my countries on the app is the UK as I like to watch UK TV. Therefore I don't see why I couldn't put the VPN on a backup phone (presuming my main phone did not work) and set it to the UK while I was there.

@@anitastokar98 I live in the USA, but I think the key factor is that my insurance is Medicare. It is their requirement that a receiver be included in every transition to G7. That's why I use Xdrip with One+. No problems which part of the planet you are on and the alerting is far better with more control. It's not rocket science what the Dexcom app is doing, devices have been connecting to phones with Bluetooth for probably the last 20yrs. The profits for Dexcom must be on the same level as a Columbian drug operation. I totally agree with the comment "to impose open sourcing of the API's used for these medical devices".

xDrip+ is an open source project based on the Android platform . I'm based in New Zealand with the main (unsubsidized) CGMs are G7, One+ and the libre 2. xDrip connects to multiple devices and for me no problems with the G7 and One+ but not the libre 2 (I think the European libre 2 is supported). I've been a type 1 diabetic for nearly 30 yrs, never had any complications but I run my blood sugars fairly tight (last HbA1c 36 mmol/mol, 4.4%). I've used both the Dexcom app and xDrip and come from a software background (which helps) and for me the benefits for xDrip+ are: 1. Easy integration of the CGM data to your Nightscount (cloud server). This is great as I am staring at my monitor for most of the day and you can have a tab open on your browser to your Nightscount address and you see your BG reading in the browser tab, I use that all the time and the readings to Nightscount are almost instantaneous. 2. Far more control of alarms, someone that has listened to multiple CGM alarms has given it some thought. 3. Great widget for phone home screen with Graph and readings (don't have to swipe for notifications). 4. Using another Android program "Tasker" you can control xDrip from your watch (Wear OS) to set the level of the Alarms (High,Medium,Silent) , Talk Readings On/Off, Talk Alerts On/Off and restart the CGM collector (which is great when you have a missed reading) and see your BG graph (on your watch). 5. Xdrip has a local phone API which you can use to query your BG readings I've used that to program a pixel clock to the way I wanted it. Probably the third of the cost of a SugarPixel. You can install xDrip+ on a Wear OS watch and some people have been able to communicate directly from the watch to the CGM. In conclusion, it's a no brainer for me between the 2 programs, go for xDrip every time.

After this experience with the Dexcom G7 last year when travelling abroad, I actually stopped using it. It shows where the priorities of these companies are. By the way, you mention the Dexcom One+ which is Dexcom's newest sensor and only available in Europe. Here is my review: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wFxDgkPDulM.html

A possible other solution for those who use an apple watch might be to use the direct to watch feature as this acts as a separate device.
@carolvachon48
@carolvachon48 2 месяца назад
Direct to watch isn't truly standalone - you still need to have the app on your phone as part of the startup. Would be interesting to see if this would work without the app and outside of your home country

When I got the G7, Medicare required that I also get the reader. So I have both. Clarity on my iPhone 14 which tramsmits to Clarity about every 5 minutes. SO! I have the reader whicn doesn't transmit automatically. I have to manually upload.

My guess is this is a combination of things. They didn’t quite think of this being a problem. Control/greed. Different price structures I’m different countries. They don’t want someone I undermining how they get paid Control/safety different features in the hardware and software can’t mix. Or what was approved. One crazy thought is the over the counter option. This sensor might be the exact same sensor as G7, there is one sensor to rule them all. The only way to then control which features you get is through software.

Have you done this successfully recently? G7 users are reporting that a VPN alone no longer works (even though it used to work). A friend tested it and confirmed this while using the Italian G7 app, and physically located in Slovakia. Can you try a VPN and confirm that it works? Would love to know your VPN app, countries, and steps.
