This video was click bait, United and problem and you got a vidoe thats a hit.. United got clean sheets in 3 games in a row.. without Magire startig - maybe United got a maguire problem.. that would have made more sense Video
Fanatic form 😂 you don’t want your keeper in fanatic form, you want your keeper at a average level with only big games once in a while, otherwise your not controlling the game 😂
@@AliMohamed-yq4wn mean in a way he does need to be in good form otherwise he is letting goals in, united havent lost in 6 or 7 matches and ddg has been outstanding i guess in a way an average keeper is a keeper in good form
Poor build up from De Gea wasn't the only reason United got battered early in the season. The bigger decision than De Gea changing the way he distributes the ball was the dropping of Maguire, which immediately led to an uptick in form.
He has rescued the team fr far too long.... Doesn't get enough credit.... On the other hand, he is struggling to adapt to the newer game.... Fr now, long passes are good.... But fr wat he has done.... He deserves time and opportunity to adapt
@@krish4246 he's never ever gonna be an ederson Allison or even a ramsdale with the ball at his feet... if u expect that from him that's a u problem. He has drastically improved from being a liability in possession to being competent with the ball at his feet.
@@nithinjw2002 nobody is saying it's his fault, nobody is asking him to reach Ederson or Alisson levels either. We know he cannot which is why we're saying the club should move on. DDG fans should stop taking everything so personally
What people seem to forget is that De Gea, when initially signed from Athletico Madrid, was actually quite good with the ball at his feet compared to most keepers at the time (except Neuer), since we were trying to replace Van der Sar, who himself was a very good ball-playing goalie, and had realized after the calamitous Ben Foster that we needed a good ball-playing keeper. However, with all post-Fergie managers (except Van Gaal) preferring less possession play and more defensive/counter-attacking play, and with the general quality of play ahead of De Gea becoming poorer and poorer, De Gea had to use his ball-playing abilities less and less, and focus more in his shot-stopping, which I feel resulted in the ball-playing aspect of his skills not developing in the same manner as his other skills. This I feel is the main reason why De Gea now appears to be so behind the curve as a sweeper-keeper compared to the greats. He would never have been as good as Neuer, but he could still have been MUCH better at it...
I think playing with the feet is one thing but saving the ball with the feet is another. He was/is/has always been good at stopping shots by feet/legs but never a quality ball distributor GK who can build up play from the back.
You're correct. If you actually followed De Gea's carreer then there is no reason to think he can't get his game with the ball at his feet back to that level given a little bit of time. And he should be given that time since he has showed good improvement in that part of his game already since that Brentford game
@@yougazer11when he arrived his distribution was one of his key attributes, along with shot stopping. His weakness was crosses. The difference is his excellent distribution in 2011 was measured on his mid-range passes to wingers or advanced full backs. He was never required to make short 10-15 yard passes to players up close.
This is truly horrendous timing from Tifo. His distribution has improved massively in recent weeks. Quicker CBs have made his sweeper needs way less necessary too.
All three can be and are true 1) It’s a low effort video 2) DDG has improved on most fronts recently 3) Utd still need a better goalkeeper (and not just for sweeping and distribution)
Doesn't exactly invalidate their point. He has been better, but it is still a problem that Ten Hag and United have to deal with because he's contract is up for renewal imminently. If they renew, it will be well deserved based on his recent form and his club legendary status. But, they couldn't also decide to take the club in a different direction by bringing in a younger keeper that has already the desired skill sets to a much higher level with room for future improvements. Either way, they have a De Gea problem because the decision is massive and crucial.
Well it's been reported he'll take a wage reduction cause his contract is kinda ridiculous (but that is a result of the Sanchez situation) and he very much wants to continue at United.
De Gea isn't a high priority problem, many other areas need addressing first. He has improved his distribution a lot this season, because he's actually getting coached
Leno was very similar to De gea. Poor distribution but above average shot stopping. Look what happened when Arsenal replaced him with Ramsdale. Arsenal are now one of the best teams in the world at playing out from the back
Tifo hasn't been watching United games for the past 3 months I guess... De Gea has been one of our best players under Ten Hag, from playing it out the back to making incredible saves, man is doing it all in the shirt he loves to play for. Such an unwarranted video and stupid title.
I think, and I know you know that, even when Man United are in good form and possess the ball more, they are still, like even the best sides, susceptible to counterattacks with their high defensive line. Last night's game would have ended in a draw or 3-2, if not for De Gea's heroics. I think his Elite shot stopping is still required in this Ten Hag side.
not every keeper needs to be a high line gegengpressing KDB playmaking sweeper keeper. Been seeing an increasingly high amount of fundamentals gk blunders throughout the WC and last few seasons in general. Do the basics well first, which DDG has, everything else can come later. First and foremost he’s a quality gk.
The same applies to fullbacks. Ref. Aaron Wan Bissaka. Fundamentally the best one on one defender in the league and the object of derisive comments for the last couple of years from United "Fans" because he isn't Beckham. I'ii tell you a secret, neither was Gary, but together they were dynamite.
@@davidtuer5825 sticking with fullbacks there is a spectrum: your pure defensives e.g AWB your in -betweens e.g Shaw then pure offense e.g Trent. While hoping someone will come along and do it all is great and all, I think most people would prefer to know what they're going to get out of a player in a particular position for example if you see AWB in an offensive crossing position you don't expect anything but if he's facing an attacking winger that winger is not getting through...dependable. Same with Dave, I don't entirely expect exceptional distribution from him (though he has been solid on that front lately funnily enough) but I can be comfortable in knowing that no fluke is being scored with him in goal. Of course we ignore that one season of his that never happened.
@@AliMohamed-yq4wn We already beat Arsenal this season and Man City are 5 years ahead of us in the rebuild under Ten Hag so no reason to expect us to win those games yet, not until ten hag gets a full starting eleven of his choice players. Still need another defender, a striker, and a winger.
@@quantado9411 this united team was coached for 3 years under ole to counter attack with lethal effect, we will do the same thing we did at old trafford at the emirates although it will be a more difficult game for sure, united will still win.
@@JasmineTeaEnjoyer Ten Hag wants his team to be possession based that press, he isn’t Ole, De Gea was a perfect keeper for Ole but a bad keeper for Ten Hag, if you want Ten Hag to succeed De Gea has to go.
Read a comment saying that this video had a horrendous timing, with De Gea's distribution of the ball improving. Come the Sevilla match in the Europa League, this video proves to be a fortuneteller rather than a "horrendously timed" one. De Gea, nevertheless an excellent shot stopper, must be replaced this summer with one who might suit the needs of Erik ten Hag.
He is still one of the biggest problems. His distribution has somewhat improved but it's still poor. Not to mention his biggest flaw which is he gets bullied at set pieces all the time and he can't catch crosses to save his life
The problem with DDG is not just that he's not that good with the ball. The big problem is that with his astronomical wage, only a big team can afford him. And a big team generally wants modern ball playing goalkeeper. So you're basically stuck with him. That means you either play him, or pay for two starting XI keepers. None of these are good choices. A third choice is convincing him to accept a wage cut in a smaller team. I'll never understand why they keep extending his contract.
tifo showing that they don't watch football matches yet again, de gea has been a steady eddie with his distribution this season, and stellar with his shot stopping
When De Gea signed the story I remember is that Fergie didn't want to miss out on a top quality young keeper ,after passing on Cech & Neuer due to their young age. But the odd thing was that Fergie compared him to Van Der Sar, mainly his ability with the ball at the his feet , which was perfect for the modern game. I don't remember him being stand out but definitely better than most of his rivals in 2010
I think we should just let him run his contract, he is a legend and needs a deserving send off People like him who stick through thick and think not moan(like certain someone) actually deserve respect
He’s been improving massively! Yesterdays highlights vs Bournemouth are a good example of this. I know you guys probably had this as a backup video filmed earlier in the season or something, but he’s seriously been much better this season.
This comment section literally has zero ball knowledge. How can you not see the problem this guy brings to the team? He's been holding us back for years now. If ETH has any sense he shouldn't extend his contract
I think a lot of de gea's problem is harry maguire. If varane and martinez were fit, man utd probably win this tie. Harry calls for the ball and then stands still waiting for it to roll to him instead of moving towards it and recieving it on the half turn. Nor does he check his shoulder to see where opponents are, like you see every world class midfielder do constantly. Then he plays the ball into an opponent he doesnt know is there. If dummy maguire checked his shoulder he could have played it straight back to de gea and because 3 sevilla players were pressing maguire, passing lanes might have opened up for de gea.
He has been a great servant for the club for so many years and although his ball playing ability has seen some improvement throughout this season, it is obvious that United will not be able to progress further with him in goal. Take Liverpool and their issues before Alisson. Yes, they were rather different but by getting him they not only secured their goal but got an insanse ball playing keeper to help them with. We all know where they got after that. Ten Hag needs a better gk on the ball. Once that player is in, we will see huge imporvements in their overall ability, playing from defence and press resistance. Plus, lets not forget how awful he is at stopping crosses into the box which leads to lots of dangerous situations and goals. It's time for him to leave, he will always be loved by the fans at OT
Although De gea is not a pure sweeper keeper, De gea was quite good with the ball. I thought Tifo had acess to De gea's stats in the early seasons. De gea only beginning to shell up because he didn't have the confidence on the def. Now that our defence is showing signs of recovering, he is getting his confidence back. Even if he isn't the best sweeper keeper, we still needs him. As our defence continued to make silly mistakes we need a pure shot stoppers for that aspect. And last night's game was prime example of that.
It's very simple. Do Manchester United fans want to compete at the highest level OR do we want to try do that whilst giving away control of the ball regularly in order to keep a club legend?
De Gea is not a problem for United to solve right now. They have much more pressing issues that need to be addressed before pondering about the GK situation. In any case, they need to bring an understudy to De Gea in the summer and let him play and acclimatise to the PL for the coming 2 seasons.
His distribution isn’t great but it has has improved slightly this season which is a good sign! But did anyone else here watch the bournemouth match? I know they’re like 18th but they would have put 3-4 past a lesser keeper yesterday. Most reliable player at the club since SAF left .
Dortumd’s keeper was excellent against City with his feet, passing it about, composed. Then in the 2nd half when they were winning 1-0 John Stones of all people hit a shot from 20 yards straight at him, and he vanished like a ghost. Couldn’t do the basic keeper requirement. But he’s good with his feet, so…
Yeah that'd what they love hey. You can kick it all about and you'll be the best thing since sliced bread. Actaually making saves don't matter to these people
On the other hand, great shot-stopping goalkeepers - such as amei Martinez and Courtois - have shown time and time again how important they are to winning crucial tight games. As a brazillian, I’ve been frustrated with Alisson’s lack of shot-stopping miracles (not saying was at fault for the losses, but he didn’t pull De Gea type miracles in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups when Brazil needed some), so I believe it’s not a style completely incompatible with a dominant side.
A little harsh, especially considering the fact that united have much bigger issues to deal with. Also, although he is no ederson on the ball, his distribution is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.
He's improved big time - anyone who watches united on a daily basis has seen David De Gea pull of immense saves, whilst also actually passing the ball under pressure, something we know is not his strong spot. He's been a great servant to the club and definitely deserves the opportunity to continue. He's been fantastic this season, barring the start, which was not only exclusive to him.
He is doing good for last two seasons but he is prone make mistakes at crucial moments which costs team dearly. Provided his lack of distribution and decision making abilities it is just impractical to have a contract value almost same as KdB. But he is not the most immediate problem look at Sancho 2 seasons now getting 350k per week and is almost never steps up. No impact whatsoever. Martial with all his injuries and inconsistency has more goal colab than Sancho. And then there is Maguire for me his positioning is so awful i cannot even begin and on top of that the guy acts like he is Maldini Vidic combined. He doesnt deserve to be in the playing 11 let alone the captaincy. It will take atleast 3 transfer windows given all the budget for ETH to shave off all this baggage and make his own squad!
@@matthewramos4177 today vs Bournemouth 😂 come back to me in 2 weeks when they play Man City and arsenal back to back and we’ll see if De Gea helps Man Utd keep possession or will he huff it up the pitch back to the opponent 😂
He is the last player still in the starting 11 from SAF last season. That he is still playing shows his class and Untied have bigger problems right now. They need a new Striker, the Midfield needs reinforcement and also a substitute right back for Dalot.
Reading though the comments and people seem to think Tifo have not hit the mark here yet I have just see De Gea allow the ball straight through his legs for Evertons goal today 🤣
His agent want him to leave in the end of the season because he wants to win trophies towards his career instead of staying in Manchester United and win nothing.
Hope we don't sell de Gea, there was a number of other issues at the club in those earlier periods than de Gea's build up play. In fact, in that Brentford game, his shot stopping was shocking as well, was a one-off freak game where nothing he did came out right. Since then he's definitely been up there as one of our better players, even in games where we are controlling the game he's saves have bailed us out. I agree that United need to look at recruiting a top tier SK, but it can wait til after de Gea retires. I'd hate to see us sign someone like Sanchez from Brighton (who we've been continuously linked to) because he's good with his feet, only for him to make countless mistakes (like he always does), pass the ball to the opposition (like he always does), and be a shocking shot stopper (like he is...) It's not really broken at United atm, don't fix it, just reeks of a media beat up (to that point congrats on the click bait vid I guess 😂)
I recommend improving De Gea's ball playing ability rather than selling him. He has been our most important player since post Ferigie time. Not when team is doing good and is building strong, selling him is the worst way of treating a club legend.
Playing from a back you need a GK who is comfortable with his feet as with his hands I.e Allison and Ederson. Polar opposite of that is Chelsea’s Mendy and Kepa
Since the list of GK’s in the world that are good both on the ball and shot stopping is very short, think about this: would you pick Goalie A, who’s very good in ball distribution, but average in shot stopping? Or Goalie B, who’s average in ball distribution, but with world class shot stopping ability?
I was expecting something positive to be said about the resurgence of De Gea this season and his incredible form under Ten Hag...seems like Tifo totally messed up the timing of this video upload.
I'm sorry but this is hugely down to maguire being in front of him. Maguire is slow so doesn't have the speed to cover behind if de gea acts as a sweeper keeper. The other issue was maguire always got the ball from de gea in the box, then ran about slightly and more often than not got tackled or gave the ball away. Since maguire has been dropped, de geas distribution has improved massively
It'll be SO HARD to get a better keeper than De Gea in Manchester United at this time. Many world class clubs would love to have De Gea in there team, while no world class keeper would love to join Man United presently.
De gea needs a lot more respect. A legend of the club and still the best shot stopper in the world, his ball distribution is also getting better even at this stage of his career. It is a stain on the quality of goalkeeping coach/general coach over the last 10 years that this has not been developed in David de gea up until now
@@user_not_addicted You don't watch De Gea performing this season when Manchester City scored 6 past him. Stop using Google to find out De Gea lack of clean sheets plastic fan.
I know many people will get angry over this due to the recent success we've had with a number of clean sheets and victories. That being said this is mainly due to work being done by the back line and midfield who are currently operating on overtime to win back possession to overcompensate for De Gea expectingly hoofing the ball straight to the opposition against a high-pressing side. The last few oppositions we've faced have been in the bottom half of the league where this issue isn't being highlighted. The next few games in City and Arsenal I'm sure will once again highlight the key flaws in De Gea and how they are indeed and have been holding us back for a long long time.
To blame David De Gea for the defensive frailties of United wins the prize for the most imbecilic quote of the year (I know it's only January but this one will certainly not be excelled!!)
Every football page uses de gea slander to generate clicks, even when hes playing well. For a site like tifo who normally digs deeper than the simple agenda, this is disappointing. Do better
De Gea is a legend! Too many people are listening to Roy Keane and doubting him! He has saved Uniteds bacon so many times for so long. Every big keeper in the premiership has committed awful mistakes recently, but go ahead focus on De Gea.
Pre 2018 de gea was set to go down as arguably the keeper of this generation…however with the change in role for goalkeepers this has led to him being questioned more.
