Hey Alex, Thanks for this, out of curiosity if you did not have metric ab or this would you be well enough just getting this? Ive been waiting on metric ab to be on a sale which it currently is and saw this was there as well so have option of both or one of the other. Thanks in advance.
That’s a tough question. Because for me personally I would choose this over metric AB because I believe understanding and beating the ref mix is most important. And I have a Tidal subscription where I can get lossless quality wavs so I use that for reference mixing. BUT I do think Metric AB is a very helpful tool if you don’t have tidal. Just avoid ref any mix from Spotify! 👌
Very interesting, dope how you can export the files through the codec emulation. I'm interested in what the client said about the mix when they heard it exported through the Spotify codec?
Yes I add it on the master and then turn it off when bouncing. Unless I want to show the client what it will sound like once uploaded. In which case I bounce it through streamliner
I mentioned before that it's hard to tell differences when comparing music on you tube. I really think the RU-vid codec itself creates some kind of loss.
Hold on Spotify not only pay next to nothing for streaming our music, now they are making it sound not as We intended and basically trash? I want people to hear My music as it shoud be not some horrible compressed mess.
This is the horrible reality. However TIDAL offers lossless versions. So if you can do a little experiment. Get one month of tidal and compare the same song on Spotify to Tidal and let me know how you get on. I’ll pin your reply with your findings! 🙌👌
@@WhoIsAlexElliott I either buy digital albums from the artist or the labals own website or rip the audio off of RU-vid video's. All the other music is from CDs I bought either new in places like HMV or used from charity shops and carboot sales. If there was a physical store where the UK Hiphop artists CDs was available I'd buy them but there isn't and I dont buy any physical products online, stollen packages and so on no thanks.
I've been hesitating on getting the Streamliner for like a month now, it's been $99 for a while but I can't add it to the 3 for $79 deal... :( Any idea if it's going to be less than that $99 at some point?
Unfortunately I don’t have any personal relationship with PA so I’m unsure. I would say that it’s worth it in the long run though. It’s like one of those administrative plug ins that can seem a little boring but you actually use every single time & realise you can’t live without 👌.
@@WhoIsAlexElliott Yep! I've been just rendering a version of my mix in Spotify's worst codec to get a hear of what it will sound like in the worst situation. This plugin would make life so much easier!
I would never reference a track playing through Spotify or other streaming service. That would be too unreliable. If necessary, I'd buy it (either online or CD) and make sure I get the uncompressed Wave or AIFF file.
That’s the best way. But if we listening to Music all the time of streaming platform then most people’s default sound palette is attuned to said platforms quality. As professionals we operate on way but most of our clients use streaming as a REF.
Ah... amateurish...listen to reference on Spotify..who is doing it that way ? Maybe you left the track normalised by spotify..i doubt about "diff algorithm" thing....that falls into logicx vs Ableton sum algorithm debate in bedroom domain...keep it on with music ✌️😁
Hay thanks for the comment. I think there must be a misunderstanding. There is a factual difference between each streaming platforms codec. Regarding who references on Spotify “all of my clients check my mix against Spotify or streaming” and none of my clients are professional mixers so yes they are all amateurs so this is pretty common 😊👍. The track is not normalised in Spotify. And I have not always been a professional so yes I did use to be an amateur at one point and listen to my REF mixes on Spotify many years ago. Sorry the content wasn’t helpful for you but many others find it helpful. Remember there are people of all skill levels on RU-vid not just pros. 👌.
